also, DO YOU?

also, Hi Jon

also, The Thing is a thing to keep my heavy kitchen window open. It is a dowel cut to 30", 15", and 5" and screwed together. It allows me to have 3 options of window openness.

Also, I beat and sodomize the cat with it.

Whispy Fandango Triphop (unclejessjess), Thursday, 27 April 2006 13:21 (twenty years ago)

Hi Jon, and welcome.

I am on vacation tomorrow too!

Me three! Canada, here I come.

Meanwhile, today I will slog through work, play a YWCA fundraiser at Hothouse, and then pack for the trip, all on four hours of sleep.

So I sent Adam -- the high-school friend I haven't talked to in maybe seven years who found me on Myspace -- a message, and he responded, and it's like OMG gossip overload. I'm reeling. That's all we did in high school, and it's sort of awesome to pick back up with him like that.

jaymc (jaymc), Thursday, 27 April 2006 13:42 (twenty years ago)

I feel you, John. Work, errands, cook, laundry, pack for New Orleans, get up at 4:30 am tomorrow.

Jordan (Jordan), Thursday, 27 April 2006 13:45 (twenty years ago)

You should just get a place in New Orleans and keep some clothes and essentials there so you never have to pack again.

jaymc (jaymc), Thursday, 27 April 2006 13:46 (twenty years ago)

I wonder how NO will be....I hope it's good and it's fun.

Whispy Fandango Triphop (unclejessjess), Thursday, 27 April 2006 13:49 (twenty years ago)

Very impressive, three levels of cat sodomizing. I probably would have just shoved a book or fan or something to prop open the window, nice effort.

jonviachicago (jonviachicago), Thursday, 27 April 2006 13:50 (twenty years ago)

hi jon, the only information we need now is height, age, and your opinion on blow.

otto midnight (otto midnight), Thursday, 27 April 2006 13:52 (twenty years ago)

So true! At one point (pre-Katrina), there was a house for sale in N.O. for $3,000 (!!). We were talking about buying it as a band and fixing it up or rebuilding so we would always have a place to stay.

Whuzzup Chicago. I just accepted a (p/t) job at I-I-T in their writing lab. Know what that means?

That I was OFFERED a job in the writing lab! Holy crap I am SO EXCITED I think I might have a boner. A boner for teaching.

No problem with it, but not for me - I'm too easily addicted to things.

jonviachicago (jonviachicago), Thursday, 27 April 2006 13:57 (twenty years ago)

Based on my trip a couple of months ago, Jesse, I am sure it will be good and fun and also sad at times.

Jordan (Jordan), Thursday, 27 April 2006 13:57 (twenty years ago)

$3K house: sounds....crack-y.

Jon: I'm working through some sadness through carpentry. Also, I'm in this really annoying nesting phase that is beginning to be sad in the way it's sad when you see an old lady in a nursing home cradling a baby doll.

Whispy Fandango Triphop (unclejessjess), Thursday, 27 April 2006 14:01 (twenty years ago)

Congratulations, Amanda! I assume this is the IIT you're referring to?

Jordan (Jordan), Thursday, 27 April 2006 14:02 (twenty years ago)

No SILLY it's in Chicago! I'm giddy.

The Milkmaid has a boner for teaching (The Milkmaid), Thursday, 27 April 2006 14:04 (twenty years ago)

I am taking a break from the carpentry to post here. But the current project is staining a lovely piece of pine for use as a window shelf and painting blocks of 2x4 for use as mounts for the shelf.

Oh! Funny thing: at the Home Depot I found the pine board in a scrap heap. I asked the guy to SKU and price it for me. He said, "Let's see...how does $2.01 sound?" Should I have haggled with him about the penny?

Whispy Fandango Triphop (unclejessjess), Thursday, 27 April 2006 14:04 (twenty years ago)

Congrats, Amanda! Rem Koolhaas welcomes you with open arms.

jaymc (jaymc), Thursday, 27 April 2006 14:07 (twenty years ago)

"Hmm, I don't think I could go a penny over $1.99."

Jordan (Jordan), Thursday, 27 April 2006 14:08 (twenty years ago)

I'm jealous, I really wish I had the tools, time, and talent for carpentry. I've had a design for cd/vinyl shelves for years that I'd love to build someday.

Congrats on the new job awesomeness.

jonviachicago (jonviachicago), Thursday, 27 April 2006 14:09 (twenty years ago)

Thanks homiez! I am having trouble containing myself over here.

The Milkmaid (82375538-A) (The Milkmaid), Thursday, 27 April 2006 14:12 (twenty years ago)

I can't build shit.

Jordan (Jordan), Thursday, 27 April 2006 14:13 (twenty years ago)

Jon, I have a feeling you live very very close to Nick (n/a) and I... oh, and otto too. We might pass each other in the street all the time and not know it.

Man, it's gorgeous out once again. I have the door propped open and the livin' is easy.

Yay, Amanda! (Ps: Did you watch ANTM last night??)

Sarah McLusky (coco), Thursday, 27 April 2006 14:14 (twenty years ago)

Yeah, I was the one asking about the Ashland/Augusta area a few weeks ago. I just moved into a new place near that intersection last weekend. Really liking it so far, but haven't really had a chance to check out much beyond the nearby Mexican and Chinese places yet.

jonviachicago (jonviachicago), Thursday, 27 April 2006 14:20 (twenty years ago)

Congratulations Amanda

But I don't understand...do you not already work? Are you quitting your current job?

Whispy Fandango Triphop (unclejessjess), Thursday, 27 April 2006 14:23 (twenty years ago)

Oh, I work plenty. I'm just trying to transition from here into teaching.

The Milkmaid (82375538-A) (The Milkmaid), Thursday, 27 April 2006 14:33 (twenty years ago)

I work 6 days a week and go to school too.

The Milkmaid (82375538-A) (The Milkmaid), Thursday, 27 April 2006 14:35 (twenty years ago)

So yr just adding another p/t job to the pile?

Jordan (Jordan), Thursday, 27 April 2006 14:39 (twenty years ago)

Well, sort of. This doesn't start until fall, so I have time to finagle other options and get out of the line of work that I'm in, which is known as Bureaucratic Tedium.

The Milkmaid (82375538-A) (The Milkmaid), Thursday, 27 April 2006 14:41 (twenty years ago)

Man, yet another person at work quit, this time the gay Macedonian dude. I really liked the guy, although he was an asshole. Sample M1le moment:

Me: "So, you've been getting to the gym a lot? That's great, I'm trying but I haven't been able to make it for the last couple weeks."

Him: "Haha, yes, it shows."

Jordan (Jordan), Thursday, 27 April 2006 14:44 (twenty years ago)

I work 6 days a week and go to school too.

AND you're against cocaine? Now either you're a super-woman or thou doth protest too much, if you catch my drift....

Whispy Fandango Triphop (unclejessjess), Thursday, 27 April 2006 14:54 (twenty years ago)

Now either you're a super-woman
Oh Jesse, you flatter me! But yes, I be busy and have lots of energy.

The Milkmaid (82375538-A) (The Milkmaid), Thursday, 27 April 2006 14:59 (twenty years ago)

All this work and school, it explains a lot about your night-life habits.

Whispy Fandango Triphop (unclejessjess), Thursday, 27 April 2006 15:04 (twenty years ago)

Jordan, your ex-coworker sounds just like my housemate.

Amanda, congratulations. Teach those nerds how to write!

Jesse, now that I know what that thing is, I am actually impressed and no longer sarcastically impressed.

Jon, hi. I'm Dan.

Holy makkara, Toivo! (OutDatWay), Thursday, 27 April 2006 15:07 (twenty years ago)

I'm not your superwoman
I'm not the kind of girl that you can let down
And think that everything's okay
Boy, I am only human
This girl needs more than occasional
Hugs as a token of love from you to me, ooh, baby

Dan, you should be extra impressed to know that I cut and sanded it by hand. I would have used my orbital sander and circular saw but it was midnight when I was working on this.

This morning though, the power tools got to come out and play.

Whispy Fandango Triphop (unclejessjess), Thursday, 27 April 2006 15:30 (twenty years ago)

I don't understand you. I thought you were gay.

jaymc (jaymc), Thursday, 27 April 2006 15:33 (twenty years ago)

If power tool aversion = gay, I am lord god king bufu.

Man Man (kenan), Thursday, 27 April 2006 15:34 (twenty years ago)

No, I'm just talking about tools in general.

would have used my orbital sander and circular saw

See, I don't even know what these things are.

Okay, maybe I have a vague understanding of a circular saw. It's a saw that's, like, in a circle, right?

jaymc (jaymc), Thursday, 27 April 2006 15:37 (twenty years ago)

Okay, maybe I have a vague understanding of a circular saw. It's a saw that's, like, in a circle, right?

It's a circular blade. It's just a common powersaw.

I SUDDENLY REALLY HATE YOU, BOTH AS A CONCEPT OF JOHN M CUN, AND AS JOHN IN THE FLESH.

thanks Kenan, I was just going to post that pic right after this hate post.

Whispy Fandango Triphop (unclejessjess), Thursday, 27 April 2006 15:44 (twenty years ago)

Once tool manufacture and use became an essential component of the human lifestyle, affecting the amount and quality of food an individual could obtain, tool use may have driven the further evolution of the human hand. Individuals whose hands happened to be better adapted for tool use would tend to be better nourished and to successfully raise more children, who in turn would be likely to inherit their parents' hand morphology.

Orbital sander.

And John? Hello, have you ever been to the Homo Depot on Halstead? It's packed with gay men buying power tools. And hello x2: Christopher Lowell?
