wait did we die?

wha happen

lemon kerrang! (jjjusten), Wednesday, 13 July 2011 17:40 (fourteen years ago)

Places I lived:

Burnsville (when it was actually little developments surrounded by large plots of farmland, 1970s)
Downtown St. Paul (I was the only teenager in the whole place)
Uptown (near Girard and 35th for a year; Humboldt off of Lake near that cul-de-sac for a year)

bernerrrrr! berrrrrnowwww.... (Eazy), Wednesday, 13 July 2011 17:40 (fourteen years ago)

this happened: http://www.startribune.com/politics/statelocal/125459928.html

HOOBASTANK is my co-pilot (DJP), Wednesday, 13 July 2011 17:41 (fourteen years ago)

don't worry though, I can still send you cases of malort

HOOBASTANK is my co-pilot (DJP), Wednesday, 13 July 2011 17:41 (fourteen years ago)

haha, might be old news, but I had to see for myself: http://minnesota.gov/

Pleasant Plains, Wednesday, 13 July 2011 17:41 (fourteen years ago)

Burnsville -- Grew up there. A bastion of mediocrity that's recently put a pretty nice bowtie on what used to be the most dead-end portion of town. Hopefully the next generation will develop personalities as a result.

Hey, if you went to Sky Oaks and are around 40, we might have been there together.

A few of my earliest memories (like 2-3 years old) are being with my mom as she lunched with her ERA friends on Robert Street in West St. Paul--at whatever diner had the giant polar bear out front.

I also took the bus on my own to see Sixteen Candles in West St. Paul, having been a Molly Ringwald fan from Facts of Life.

And I played some pinball at the Chuck E. Cheese there. And did karaoke years later at some bar on Robert St. right before it takes a dip.

bernerrrrr! berrrrrnowwww.... (Eazy), Wednesday, 13 July 2011 17:44 (fourteen years ago)

I went to Vista View and then Gideon Pond, roughly 8 years after you I think. I did have a couple summer school classes (the fun, elementary school version, with classes in sign language and stuff) at Sky Oaks, tho. Weird circle building, right?

ephendophile (Eric H.), Wednesday, 13 July 2011 18:16 (fourteen years ago)

AAAAGGGGAAAGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHH!

lemon kerrang! (jjjusten), Wednesday, 13 July 2011 18:19 (fourteen years ago)

sorry that was a reaction to the bar and liquor store problem

lemon kerrang! (jjjusten), Wednesday, 13 July 2011 18:20 (fourteen years ago)

LOL

ephendophile (Eric H.), Wednesday, 13 July 2011 18:20 (fourteen years ago)

Can't wait to use this as an excuse to drop $500 on gin, vodka and tequila.

ephendophile (Eric H.), Wednesday, 13 July 2011 18:20 (fourteen years ago)

Eazy my store was right behind where you were playing pinball, depending on how long ago this was.

chuck e. cheese is still here, but both movie theaters (signal hills and cina 4/5) are long gone, as is the polar bear.

lemon kerrang! (jjjusten), Wednesday, 13 July 2011 18:21 (fourteen years ago)

Oh man, it's kind of comforting to know that some of those things are gone and maybe replaced by a Chipotle, instead of just being mostly-abandoned strip-malls.

bernerrrrr! berrrrrnowwww.... (Eazy), Wednesday, 13 July 2011 18:30 (fourteen years ago)

well...

lemon kerrang! (jjjusten), Wednesday, 13 July 2011 18:31 (fourteen years ago)

...or they're just there, but without movie theaters.

Guys, for what it's worth, the governor of Iowa's spokesdrone has said that Iowa has a plan for shutdown, much like Minnesota has

Unlike Minnesota, the plan is in our governor's head

van ingalls wilder (upper mississippi sh@kedown), Thursday, 14 July 2011 15:07 (fourteen years ago)

If you guys start losing real services, you can feel free to drive one state south. We haven't shut down yet, and as of July 1 you can buy hard liquor everywhere, even convenience stores.

http://www.startribune.com/politics/blogs/125567238.html

for those of us who really only just started following this, what does this mean (aside from Dayton being all "okay you big fucking babies, I gave some ground and now it's your turn")

I keep daring myself to go read a James Lileks column, but I find myself unwilling to accept.
