AND THAT MOMENT is what I mean when i say it's a new york show
yes everyone wants this thing, this life just out of their reach but the point is that in nyc YOU CANNOT HAVE IT
you are not gonna have it.
i have done that exact thing, maybe on that same block, set that same goal knowing i will never ever get it
this show fucks with me sometimes

i feel that way in most aspects of life (and i've felt those things both in nyc and outside of it).

if he wants a $7000 house, he could go to detroit. he could even buy two $3500 houses.

xxpost

(i initially misunderstood that tweet as louis tweeting at bun and was powerloling)

BIG HOOS aka the steendriver, Friday, 8 July 2011 06:03 (fourteen years ago)

i felt that way shopping for furniture the other day. the cheap couches were dingy and sad... the nice couches were all like $1000, even for love seats.

I love that it wasn't just "I want this" but that he's wrapped up this house as a way to start fresh (and outdo his ex for his girls' affections). So you've got the observational (and occasionally surreal) aspects of trying to find a new place to live that feeds into this desire for something that is right there but just out of reach (as was said just upthread there) and all of that because he's hoping that this physical change in his life will affect an emotional change that will allow him to clean the slate. I really think this show is something special.

I'm sure people in certain other cities can relate, too. Living in SF Bay Area has me relating to a lot in this show; the last two episodes especially, with the crazy random street-people incidents, and especially the house-hunting experience last night. When they were going through the old man's place, I was actually looking at it going through that same mental process I go through so often while apartment hunting: "This place is really ugly and it's set up really weird, but it's HUGE! I could get used to this!" Whoever scouted the location for that place is a genius.

rockapads, Friday, 8 July 2011 16:25 (fourteen years ago)

That apartment was way too dumpy for his friend he was with to get that frustrated with him for not looking around. If the apartment wasn't so extremely terrible her frustration would make more sense. I guess it was just about making her out to be a whacky character in some way, no?

Wacky Way Lounge (Evan), Friday, 8 July 2011 16:35 (fourteen years ago)

Actually yeah, because she ignored the point that there was a toilet in the kitchen.

Wacky Way Lounge (Evan), Friday, 8 July 2011 16:36 (fourteen years ago)

yeah i'm not saying it's unique just that it comes coded with extra information for nyers

brooklyn's complicated relationship with bacon (forksclovetofu), Friday, 8 July 2011 16:54 (fourteen years ago)

that apartment (depending on location and price) would be INCREDIBLE for some people; i lived in a place with a shower in the kitchen

brooklyn's complicated relationship with bacon (forksclovetofu), Friday, 8 July 2011 16:55 (fourteen years ago)

secret infos my god

BIG HOOS aka the steendriver, Friday, 8 July 2011 17:01 (fourteen years ago)

^ i just look for any and all opportunities to post that phrase

BIG HOOS aka the steendriver, Friday, 8 July 2011 17:02 (fourteen years ago)

Yeah location and price maybe but it was a dump regardless of the set up. Also the shower in the kitchen doesn't have as much of a hygiene conflict of interest situation as a toilet.

Evan, Friday, 8 July 2011 17:52 (fourteen years ago)

That apartment would probably go for like $1950/mo in SF

rockapads, Friday, 8 July 2011 18:37 (fourteen years ago)

That was one glaring continuity error with Pamela Adlon losing her coat after they went into the weird apartment

Number None, Friday, 8 July 2011 21:24 (fourteen years ago)

I have definitely seen a lot of terrible apartments like those. SF has some of the worst apartments.

polyphonic, Friday, 8 July 2011 21:24 (fourteen years ago)

and i don't THINK that's a 17 m aptmt in this climate
my guess was like 9.5 or something

brooklyn's complicated relationship with bacon (forksclovetofu), Friday, 8 July 2011 21:25 (fourteen years ago)

17m did seem high even though i know nothing about real estate

she picked up her coat off the back of the chair before she left. xposts

massive lol from the closet/kitchen/wall apt.

Gukbe, Friday, 8 July 2011 21:31 (fourteen years ago)

No, watch the scene again. She's wearing the coat when they enter the apartment, it goes to a different shot and she's not wearing it

Number None, Friday, 8 July 2011 21:33 (fourteen years ago)

ok so call the police man what do you want from me hummus or an apartment eh

johnny crunch, Friday, 8 July 2011 21:51 (fourteen years ago)

I don't even normally notice these things

Number None, Friday, 8 July 2011 22:14 (fourteen years ago)

I've had so many awkward moments going to look at apartments that are occupied. It's one thing if it's a rental and the person is moving out because they can't afford it...another thing when you're looking to buy and you go look at a 1 bedroom apartment and are greeted by a mother and her 3 babies and all they want to do is move into a house so they don't all have to sleep in the same room but they can't sell it because the economy sucks and for a moment they look at you like you're their only hope but then they know you're just another person who's not going to buy there weird apartment.

dan selzer, Friday, 8 July 2011 22:24 (fourteen years ago)

pointing out continuity errors in louie is like taking out an umbrella & extra layers when the sun is shining, you are not in the spirit of the party goin on

Genre Fiction › Men's Adventure (schlump), Saturday, 9 July 2011 10:48 (fourteen years ago)

I noticed it too. It seemed so obvious to me that I'm sure they noticed it themselves but just couldn't be bothered going back to fix it, because we all know we're watching a television programme, after all.

trishyb, Saturday, 9 July 2011 10:57 (fourteen years ago)

There's almost certainly a bit of dialogue where she takes off her jacket but something must have happened to it that made it unusable.. I guess it does add to the general hallucinatory panic and confusion that Louie's feeling at that moment, kinda works in a way

The "twirling" scene in the garden with the real estate agent was tremendous!

i tried to get tickets but no go. $20 is a decent price for a "testing new material" show but it's still really more than i can spend right now.

i just watched this last episode again. so many little things i missed the first time! he thanks the parent that he met last season for coming with him to look at apartments, and she's like "you're WELcome", breaking his balls for being so earnestly polite. and oh man, the very end of the conversation with his accountant, after he's been brought so brutally down to earth about his finances. "but what about... obama..." hahaha

i totally forgot about the homeless-guy-exchange from the last ep until reading this, which goes into it a bit (inasmuch as it says there's nothing to go into):

between the joan rivers cameo and roseanne's reality show, it's been a stellar week for mouthy elderstateswoman comics.

she can really act, her monologue about it being a calling was slaying me

she really can act. it kind of makes you wonder what could have been, in that respect.

am i right in thinking at one point she said "and somebody'll replace you, like dave cook or whatever that asshole's name is"
