I just found out about Pinocchio's like a month ago. It was pretty great at 2:00 am tbh.

in retrospect i always got that cinnabon feeling eating at pinocchio's (all-time worst boston pizza place in this regard: little steve's on boylston pre-renovation)

Hungry Man?

ȣ_ȣ Ȣ_Ȣ ȣ_ȣ Ȣ_Ȣ ȣ_ȣ (absolutely clean glasses), Thursday, 7 July 2011 18:48 (fourteen years ago)

i think that's the hungry man microwave breakfast.

so you're in louisville and you get a large chocolate shake, a sack of fries and three cheeseburgers. Which sounds about right to me as a good ol' boy dinner, not insane or anything.
That's 3310 calories.

spoiled alerts...

Maybe my favorite episode. Dealing with such totally familiar frustrations in such fun ways. Having looked to buy a place not too long ago, it really hit home. I loved how the surreal stuff was handled. During that homeless person exchange sequence I even said "I hope this has nothing to do with anything" and it was perfect. And both realtors were great. That bait and switch move...so frustrating and happens every time. And the second realtor with the dreamy sequence in the garden. Amazing.

And the opening joke...so great how the joke was all about how he was telling this joke which as far as we can tell wasn't even a joke.

dan selzer, Friday, 8 July 2011 03:47 (fourteen years ago)

i am gutted that i'm missing this. i can't remember a comedy show i've cared about (and like, a lot) in forever.

also i tried on a pair of old dress slacks earlier and had a real louis moment. then i ate a hoagie.

death to ilx, long live the frogbs (strongo hulkington's ghost dad), Friday, 8 July 2011 04:03 (fourteen years ago)

The look on his face when he said he was going to buy THIS house was absolutely devastating as well.

AND THAT MOMENT is what I mean when i say it's a new york show
yes everyone wants this thing, this life just out of their reach but the point is that in nyc YOU CANNOT HAVE IT
you are not gonna have it.
i have done that exact thing, maybe on that same block, set that same goal knowing i will never ever get it
this show fucks with me sometimes

i feel that way in most aspects of life (and i've felt those things both in nyc and outside of it).

if he wants a $7000 house, he could go to detroit. he could even buy two $3500 houses.

BIG HOOS aka the steendriver, Friday, 8 July 2011 06:03 (fourteen years ago)

i felt that way shopping for furniture the other day. the cheap couches were dingy and sad... the nice couches were all like $1000, even for love seats.

don't believe the HYP (get bent), Friday, 8 July 2011 06:06 (fourteen years ago)

I love that it wasn't just "I want this" but that he's wrapped up this house as a way to start fresh (and outdo his ex for his girls' affections). So you've got the observational (and occasionally surreal) aspects of trying to find a new place to live that feeds into this desire for something that is right there but just out of reach (as was said just upthread there) and all of that because he's hoping that this physical change in his life will affect an emotional change that will allow him to clean the slate. I really think this show is something special.

I'm sure people in certain other cities can relate, too. Living in SF Bay Area has me relating to a lot in this show; the last two episodes especially, with the crazy random street-people incidents, and especially the house-hunting experience last night. When they were going through the old man's place, I was actually looking at it going through that same mental process I go through so often while apartment hunting: "This place is really ugly and it's set up really weird, but it's HUGE! I could get used to this!" Whoever scouted the location for that place is a genius.

rockapads, Friday, 8 July 2011 16:25 (fourteen years ago)

That apartment was way too dumpy for his friend he was with to get that frustrated with him for not looking around. If the apartment wasn't so extremely terrible her frustration would make more sense. I guess it was just about making her out to be a whacky character in some way, no?

Wacky Way Lounge (Evan), Friday, 8 July 2011 16:35 (fourteen years ago)

Actually yeah, because she ignored the point that there was a toilet in the kitchen.
