it's getting increasingly hard to remember that oliver stone used to be an omnipresence come awards time and was such a cultural force as a director. his steez really didn't translate well past the mid-'90s at all, probably worse than any other major director of his era. what's been his biggest film since 'nixon'. 'w' maybe? i saw 'wall street 2' and thought it was actually quite well done in a ludicrous way, and could have been something much better minus shia labeouf.

I watched Wall Street 2 with its intended dinner theatre audience and there a sense that everyone wanted Quality Adult Entertainment and gave the film a lot of chances.
Stone's eminence started to wane with NBK, which was a modest hit and one of those things everyone was talking about until Pulp Fiction. Nixon was the critical comeback, I guess, just to prove he could do JFK again without any of the verve. I saw Any Given Sunday in the theatre but except for some bonecrunching it reminded me of Coppola directing Jack.
