Anything with Patty Hewes in it is worth watching.― The Not Liking Radiohead Awards (Turangalila), Sunday, July 3, 2011 2:54 PM (6 hours ago)

Of all the things I have seen Turangalila be OTM about, he is rarely as OTM as when he is writing these things about Damages.
― Mordy, Monday, 4 July 2011 01:38 (fourteen years ago)
season really isn't grabbing me much at all, but I'll keep watching.
― akm, Friday, 22 July 2011 02:04 (fourteen years ago)
Am I missing this or is not on in Britain (yet)?

Hold on, it's started again? Yay.
― Nathalie (stevienixed), Friday, 22 July 2011 07:33 (fourteen years ago)
re-watching this, it's funny how like the end of every single scene is a shot of someone lookin all, 'i am secretly plotting against you'
― j., Sunday, 24 July 2011 05:02 (fourteen years ago)
i had forgotten that gail-from-breaking-bad was the hired goon in this.
― j., Sunday, 24 July 2011 05:06 (fourteen years ago)
caught up. oh man, the obviously lower budget is really hurting this show. they can't even do establishing shots anymore!
― Nhex, Sunday, 24 July 2011 05:49 (fourteen years ago)
also, can't help but feel like they had some a bunch of network notes telling them to dumb it down, especially the first episode where it seems everything gets repeated or overly explained.
OTOH, they probably got a note to have more scenes with Patty and Ellen together, which is definitely an improvement, since they've been getting less and less of those since season 1
― Nhex, Sunday, 24 July 2011 05:51 (fourteen years ago)
still, vaguely feels like damages, you got your creepy stalkery dude, morally conflicted corporate villain, questionable major witness, ellen doing things that patty would do, etc.
― Nhex, Sunday, 24 July 2011 05:52 (fourteen years ago)
Didn't know this was back on! s4 started in US last week by the looks of it. Gonna go catch up although I have zero recollection of the last season.
― kinder, Sunday, 24 July 2011 06:14 (fourteen years ago)
watching season 2 now, it's weird whenever they have greta van sustern on, normally on-air she has a permanent look of disgust or something, but when she's 'interviewing patty hewes' she's all smiley and personable.

my sister is watching the second season of damages, because she's on a tim olyphant bender, but she never saw the first season. we've been gchatting and she's been saying things like "i don't think patty tried to kill ellen" and "patty is nice." this is what happens when you skip season one.

i told her! little sisters, man.
― horseshoe, Friday, 5 August 2011 01:45 (fourteen years ago)
Much as I love this show it's becoming a parody of itself, right? especially the trick shots on the latest ep that seemed to last about 20 mins - FBI on route to a bust... cut to bad guy's apartment... MORE FEDS.... MORE BAD GUY OMG HE DOESN'T SUSPECT... MOAR FEDS!! ... KNOCK ON BAD GUY'S DOOR HELLYEAHawwww it was all a trick. Totally called that from the start and it was painful. Only 24 should be allowed to do that.
Also I cannot take my eyes off the tiny pencil neck of Patti Hewes' therapist.
― kinder, Wednesday, 17 August 2011 05:41 (fourteen years ago)
This season is not very good so far and it's making me sad.
― Melissa W, Wednesday, 17 August 2011 06:01 (fourteen years ago)
yeah i just stopped watching after the first three episodes tbh
― Monstrous TumTum (Lamp), Wednesday, 17 August 2011 06:02 (fourteen years ago)
The patty ellen tension is toned way down which takes lots of the suspense away. Meanwhile, cosign on the whole "parody of itself" thing with tormented boss, out-of-control right hand man, lawyer going to get slowly sucked into dark world of corporate evil, etc. Meanwhile there's like zero ambiguity in the case itself, and the evil plots to kill people, threaten em, blow em up, whatever, started way too early and too big so its much more like a grisham novel or whatever and much less sort of an "omg this is getting dark" thing. So a big disappointment all around. Still watching though.
― s.clover, Thursday, 18 August 2011 17:27 (fourteen years ago)
i half maybe given up after two. only r b rose byrne is making the third ep a possibility.
― old money entertainment (history mayne), Thursday, 18 August 2011 17:30 (fourteen years ago)
Ok this has now gone, tonewise, the way of very, very dark comedy. The twists have gotten more interesting, at least!
― s.clover, Monday, 5 September 2011 17:03 (fourteen years ago)
OK I just got into this series over last weekend and I'm already halfway through season 2. Not going to read the past posts here yet but I'm enjoying this so far.
― mh, Thursday, 2 February 2012 14:18 (fourteen years ago)

― obliquity of the ecliptic (rrrobyn), Monday, 6 February 2012 05:30 (fourteen years ago)
omg rrrobyn you HAVE TO.
― horseshoe, Monday, 6 February 2012 05:31 (fourteen years ago)
I know I know... Like the only way it could be more tailor made for me is if it had spies or marines in it.
I just have to be really disciplined abt watching it because a) I have work to do and b) too much of it will turn me into a ball of weird tension. Basically the reasons I haven't watched all kinds of other shows that everyone says I need to watch (eg, the wire, the supranos, etc).

― Lamp, Monday, 6 February 2012 16:31 (fourteen years ago)
haha srsly my fave tv drama wld be a cross btwn Battlestar, The Unit and this. Like if Law & Order took place in a slightly alternate future and the lawyers were all ninjas in a semi-rogue military operation.
― obliquity of the ecliptic (rrrobyn), Monday, 6 February 2012 16:50 (fourteen years ago)
that sounds delightful
― horseshoe, Monday, 6 February 2012 16:50 (fourteen years ago)
you know what is a great Damages moment from the second season
SPOILERS
when Patty is questioning Michael's thirtysomething girlfriend about what on earth she's doing dating a teenager and the woman is all, i think we both know your son is not a child and Glenn Close sort of leans back a little and regards her like she's a bug and asks, "are you mentally ill?"
― horseshoe, Monday, 13 February 2012 16:57 (fourteen years ago)
finally watching season 4 of Damages. it's not that bad, you guys. ellen is mysteriously a huge idiot all of a sudden, but whatevs. i think i would watch glenn close sit around and bore into people with her eyes for 45 minutes at a time.

this is totally otm though. i think i might have really low standards.
― horseshoe, Saturday, 18 February 2012 23:35 (fourteen years ago)
yo man why you gotta hate on Fisher Stevens
finally got around to finishing this past season. the lower budget and much crappier direction really hurt, but at least john goodman and dylan baker were great, as the villains usually are. ellen and patty were are good as ever, but the plots were not quite there...
i kinda wish Ellen had gotten more to do this season. also, that she cut off those bangs. the season might have been more emotionally striking if the guy who played the main soldier guy had more range as an actor, honestly

omg, fake ray fisk
― j., Saturday, 7 April 2012 05:31 (fourteen years ago)
Not reading this thread for fear of spoilers, but this show is great.
― calstars, Friday, 13 April 2012 12:37 (fourteen years ago)
pilot was easily the best in awhile
also feel like glenn close has been her late 30s for about 30 years now
― calstars, Friday, 13 April 2012 13:52 (fourteen years ago)
you're in for a treat!
― horseshoe, Friday, 13 April 2012 16:14 (fourteen years ago)
have not read thread b/c i am approaching the end of a season 1 binge (on netflix)consequently, my brain has turned into a paranoid mush and that mush is called "frobisher"no idea how this is going to stretch out for 5 seasons, but am enjoying it one betrayal at a time
― nicest bitch of poster (La Lechera), Saturday, 23 June 2012 18:22 (thirteen years ago)
the first season is by far the best of the 3, so far, unfortunately.
― just1n3, Saturday, 23 June 2012 18:27 (thirteen years ago)
first season is definitely the best, but i love all the seasons including the self-parodic fourth one. patty hewes means so much to me.
― horseshoe, Saturday, 23 June 2012 20:04 (thirteen years ago)
part of that makes me want to keep watching and part of it makes me want to stop before anything gets self-parodic because that is not my steez(i will probably keep watching no matter what btw)
― nicest bitch of poster (La Lechera), Saturday, 23 June 2012 20:32 (thirteen years ago)
you have to watch it all!!! well you can do whatever you want, of course, but i think/hope you will enjoy this show a lot.
― horseshoe, Saturday, 23 June 2012 20:33 (thirteen years ago)
NO PRESSURE
― horseshoe, Saturday, 23 June 2012 20:34 (thirteen years ago)
i still haven't seen seasons 3 or 4, loved the first 2.
― some dude, Saturday, 23 June 2012 20:37 (thirteen years ago)
also want to note that katie is my favorite character so farshe looks like jodie foster, always wears nice clothes, and has only hurt herself so far (i think?)
i also like the way they treat people's relationships with their dogs, even if there has been some dog violence in the show. dogs have identities and the people relate with their dogs very differently, as people do.
― nicest bitch of poster (La Lechera), Saturday, 23 June 2012 20:37 (thirteen years ago)
Watched the first season with my wife, thought it was pretty ridiculous but enjoyed it. Watched season two with my wife, thought it was pretty ridiculous but not in a good way. Can't imagine watching any other season. Frankly, can't wrap my head around the fact that there even are future seasons.
― Josh in Chicago, Saturday, 23 June 2012 20:39 (thirteen years ago)
please no spoilers but i am going to unbookmark just in case
this show has made me googly with paranoia, but not in a bad way just a funny way
― nicest bitch of poster (La Lechera), Saturday, 23 June 2012 20:41 (thirteen years ago)
i loved season one and kinda gave up halfway through season 2. season one was just so tense everything after is just...after.
