evidently matt & jim found a fight almost completely devoid of combinations by two fighters without an ounce of heart between them very satisfying

lol "heart." Where did Klitschko show a lack of heart? By not fighting like a heavyweight Aaron Pryor? You put Larry Holmes in the ring tonight with Haye and the fight is just as boring (although maybe Haye wouldn't have been so terrified and actually would have opened up).

Matt Armstrong, Sunday, 3 July 2011 03:15 (fourteen years ago)

Lewis-Tua was also appalling, the h'weight division has sucked for years but honestly you're gonna defend Wlad's performance tonight? really?

You said we had to go "way back" to find a heavyweight title fight this bad, and it's just not true. Awful heavyweight title fights (fights worse than this one!) have been happening ever since the division was created. Tyson-Green, Tyson-Smith, Lewis-Tua, Ali-Young (a fight that made tonight's look like Gatti-Ward) etc.

Matt Armstrong, Sunday, 3 July 2011 03:17 (fourteen years ago)

point taken re: KO record, yr right. also yr right about "way back" being hyperbolic it's just this fight totally sucked and it pissed me off

Re: K's recordhow many future Hall of Famers do you count in it? Maybe Lennox Lewis, who beat him (stopped on a cut according the record, I didn't see that fight). Otherwise's knocked out 28 people who will be completely forgotten by history. You can say that that's not his fault, and you'll be right, but you can't argue that his KO % is much to speak about; do you think Frazier, Holmes, Foreman, Ali, Norton, Shavers, Tyson, Holyfield up 'til about '96, Coetzee, Qawi, or Pinklon Thomas wouldn't have racked up a similar percentage against the likes of Ross Purrity, Orlin Norris, and Albert Sosnowski? I know that sounds like cherry-picking the nobodies but seriously man...who has this guy beat that you rate at all?

xp Pacquiao v. Mosley was the battle of the midway compared to Klistschko/Haye

Where did Klitschko show a lack of heart?

by hardly throwing any punches and coasting to an easy decision?

I'm not saying Vitali is one of the greatest heavyweights of all time, I'm saying he's not interested in coasting to points decisions. He methodically breaks people down and KOs them.

Wladimir is more cautious than his brother because he has stamina problems and a glass chin.

Lack of heart is quitting or giving up, not banking round after round on points. By that logic Marco Antonio Barrera showed a lack of heart vs. Hamed, for example.

Matt Armstrong, Sunday, 3 July 2011 03:39 (fourteen years ago)

Dude you have to see it, it's the best heavyweight fight of the past 15 years.

Matt Armstrong, Sunday, 3 July 2011 03:41 (fourteen years ago)

(ok, 14 years, Ibeabuchi-Tua was 97)

Matt Armstrong, Sunday, 3 July 2011 03:42 (fourteen years ago)

! seriously? who knows maybe I will become a Klitschko convert

or maybe you are joking and doing a good impression of my hyperbolic style idk

I'll get a clean copy from my fights dude but if he laughs at me for ordering it I'm gonna say "don't blame me I wanted to complete my Paez collection but matt armstrong told me klitschko/lewis was the shit"

No it's a crazy war. Other than Golota-Bowe 2 it's probably the only fight where superheavyweights really slugged it out at an elite level.

Matt Armstrong, Sunday, 3 July 2011 03:44 (fourteen years ago)

I'm sure it's on youtube too

Matt Armstrong, Sunday, 3 July 2011 03:44 (fourteen years ago)

Lara vs. Williams tonight, I think Williams's first after the savage KO by Martinez?

love in a grain elevator (underrated aerosmith bootlegs I have owned), Saturday, 9 July 2011 18:24 (fourteen years ago)

anybody watching Antillon-Rios right now? looks like the better choice than Williams-Lara. Cintron looked sluggish and uninspired in the undercard fight, lost by unanimous decision.

love in a grain elevator (underrated aerosmith bootlegs I have owned), Sunday, 10 July 2011 03:12 (fourteen years ago)

well, if you missed round 1 of Antillon-Rios, you missed one of the best rounds of the year. Jesus! rock-em sock-em stuff.

love in a grain elevator (underrated aerosmith bootlegs I have owned), Sunday, 10 July 2011 03:21 (fourteen years ago)

holy shit all boxing hands on deck for this one this is like the olympic auditorium in the 70s. two full rounds of non-stop banging.

love in a grain elevator (underrated aerosmith bootlegs I have owned), Sunday, 10 July 2011 03:30 (fourteen years ago)

I'm flipping over to Williams-Lara but there is just no way it can measure up

love in a grain elevator (underrated aerosmith bootlegs I have owned), Sunday, 10 July 2011 03:33 (fourteen years ago)

williams is just a huge target & gets hit way too much

Margarito in street clothes in Rios's corner...dude does the sleazy look better than pretty much anybody

Lara-Williams is ok Rios-Antillon was just...that was fucking great.

love in a grain elevator (underrated aerosmith bootlegs I have owned), Sunday, 10 July 2011 03:54 (fourteen years ago)

Paul Williams given a joke of a decision against Lara. Everybody in the building knows Lara destroyed him, everybody's completely disgusted.

love in a grain elevator (underrated aerosmith bootlegs I have owned), Sunday, 10 July 2011 04:08 (fourteen years ago)

wow i had turned that off b4 the decision

rios' punches seemed hard as hell & was kinda walking thru antillons shots

johnny crunch, Sunday, 10 July 2011 04:11 (fourteen years ago)

antillon caught him with good stuff imo, it's just that rios is pretty unshakeable right now - he's got pac-like intensity

wolak's winning but his eye is so swollen it's completely grotesque

Turned it on waiting for the poker coverage -- dude looks like a Ferengi.

Josef K-Doe (WmC), Saturday, 16 July 2011 02:51 (fourteen years ago)

this was Gatti-Ward level action, just nuts, except Wolak refused to actually bleed

pathos of the unwarranted encore (underrated aerosmith bootlegs I have owned), Saturday, 16 July 2011 02:55 (fourteen years ago)

majority draw & a correct decision imo. post-fight interview all class from both guys. teddy atlas going nuts praising both fighters, invited them to rematch on espn while noting that he doesn't actually have the power to offer that. wolak's eye swollen so huge he looked like something from the eye of the beholder twilight zone ep., just horrifyingly/comically huge (ymmv, it was horrifying until you hear him talking, he doesn't seem any more than irked about it)

great great great fight

pathos of the unwarranted encore (underrated aerosmith bootlegs I have owned), Saturday, 16 July 2011 03:04 (fourteen years ago)

more fighting on showtime right now in case anybody's wanting more - nabf jr. lightweight championship, magdaleno v. perez

Aerosmith vs Thread was better than Klitschko-Haye. I was off the Internet watching the fight in a pub full of English Haye fans who by the end were, like me, hoping Haye didn't land a lucky shot as he didn't deserve a fucking thing. If you're going to what is essentially your opponent's home territory and aiming to take two belts from him you've got to do more than run and hide, throw five wild swings and fall over a lot (well done to the ref on deciding to fuck with Haye by counting him on one of those btw). Can't criticise Wlad too much as he convincingly won almost every round but I honestly thought Haye was there for the taking and that Wlad was pissed off enough with the pre-fight shit to have gone for it.

some greenzo (onimo), Saturday, 16 July 2011 17:28 (fourteen years ago)

thought it was amusing that jim defended klitsch with the old defence for mourinhoish football teams like 'u can only beat whats in front of u/ got the job done' given he's ilx' biggest barcelona fan

wlad could and should have ended the torpor and torn into him with intent

MY WEEDS STRONG BLUD.mp3 (nakhchivan), Saturday, 16 July 2011 17:34 (fourteen years ago)

I am at most a casual boxing fan but if a regular ILF poster was all 'fuck this shit, they should be ashamed, Puskás would've had five' after some unexceptional 1-0 Madrid win, he'd probably get baited a little as well.

boxall, Saturday, 16 July 2011 19:20 (fourteen years ago)

aerosmith was just a lil hyperbolic but it was a really boring fight
