Anyway, you teasing cravens make me wish I read faster.
Trying to think of a Who/GoT joke, it's not working. :\`

― ice cr?m, Friday, 1 July 2011 04:16 (fourteen years ago)
they shoulda just made it all at once, sent to me in a torrent
show's more addictive than crack. To think only a week ago I was only peripherally aware of it and today there's a Game Of Thrones hole in my world that True Blood won't fill.

Would love Rufus Sewell as Stannis.
― Melissa W, Friday, 1 July 2011 09:10 (fourteen years ago)
hmmmm, rufus sewell best suggestion so far imo. doesn't look too old, can pull off a bit of po-faced gravitas.

haha the only reason i read the books is because when they were promoting the show i was like 'hmm im probably gonna watch this, i guess i'll read it just so nobody can spoiler me on it'
― Ayatollah Colm Meaney (Princess TamTam), Friday, 1 July 2011 10:46 (fourteen years ago)
yeah i basically read them cause i saw the first six episodes early and didnt want to have to wait six weeks to find out what happened next

btw, kinda lol that "butt" is part of the vernacular in the books ("Nearly a man grown, he yet slipped and fell on his butt").
― Matt Groening's Cousin (Leee), Tuesday, 5 July 2011 05:35 (fourteen years ago)
He compensates by describing things as a "mummer's farce" on the regular; guy must be a total downer at ren fairs
"he walked like he had a dagger up his butt" was the point where I considered just skipping to book 2 to find out about deaths
― MPx4A, Tuesday, 5 July 2011 08:24 (fourteen years ago)
A song of ice and fire more like a description of beards and armour
― MPx4A, Tuesday, 5 July 2011 08:28 (fourteen years ago)
ha yeah one definitely doesn't read these books for the prose

Massive Westeros Map
― Gukbe, Friday, 8 July 2011 00:07 (fourteen years ago)
I'll come back to this map once I've made it deeper into the books. 2/3 into GoT is the most fun I've had w/ a book in ages. Then again, I haven't read anything like this in a long time.
― WARS OF ARMAGEDDON (Karaoke Version) (Sparkle Motion), Friday, 8 July 2011 01:13 (fourteen years ago)
my god that map do they really mention all those places in the book wtf

should work. she's tall
― abcfsk, Friday, 8 July 2011 12:44 (fourteen years ago)
although Not Actually Unattractive, tho that's not that surprising, i guess. who is she?
― thomp, Friday, 8 July 2011 12:45 (fourteen years ago)
Gwendoline Christie is a British actress. She graduated from drama school in 2005 and has appeared in the RSC's Great Expectations and Pravda. Last year she played the queen in Cymbeline at the Barbican. She lives in London
Her only screen role to date seems to be a very small part in The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus. She's 6ft 3
― Number None, Friday, 8 July 2011 12:52 (fourteen years ago)
she's the amazon from the patrick wolf videos
― remy bean, Friday, 8 July 2011 13:29 (fourteen years ago)
Whoa:
I had seen Gwendoline walking in Brighton and was drawn to her. She's over 6'5" in heels and very striking. I couldn't get her out of my head. She was working at a funky interiors boutique in Brighton called Pussy; I was looking for a new project in 2002 and realised I needed to track down this girl to see if she'd do some photos.
Tall order: it took Borland (right) six months to convince Christie to pose seminudehttp://www.independent.co.uk/multimedia/archive/00034/howwemet_brownlee_34968a.jpg
― She Got the Shakes, Friday, 8 July 2011 14:39 (fourteen years ago)
I am...torn. Have to see how they style her character. Wanted someone less feminine, definitely.
― manager expects you to work past 6PM but won't allow you to change into (Laurel), Friday, 8 July 2011 14:41 (fourteen years ago)
watch the damaris video –– she's definitely capable of less feminine
― remy bean, Friday, 8 July 2011 14:44 (fourteen years ago)
damaris video?
she's definitely prettier than i imagined, and thinner too. i pictured brienne being built like a female shot putter:

it's a tough role to cast though.

yikes only 4 days left for me to finish my re-read and i'm not even done with 3 yet, might have to just skim 4 if its as inconsequential as i remember
― ciderpress, Friday, 8 July 2011 15:18 (fourteen years ago)
tamtam otm, but I imagine she'll be bulked out with armor and stuff: her gonzo height (six five!) is more visually striking than being jacked would be.
― g++ (gbx), Friday, 8 July 2011 15:19 (fourteen years ago)
6'5" in heels, 6'3" in real life apparently
― thomp, Friday, 8 July 2011 15:33 (fourteen years ago)
i dunno. i feel like hbo were never going to go with anyone actually unattractive, so it's at least better that they're at least putting onscreen someone with a non-standard body type and stuff
― thomp, Friday, 8 July 2011 15:36 (fourteen years ago)
She's "TV ugly" basically
― Number None, Friday, 8 July 2011 15:38 (fourteen years ago)
ha ha. which is "hot" by human standards.

So Martin has taken twenty years to write the first five books. Is there any indication he will finish the last two before the show catches up with him, or indeed before he dies?
― Inevitable stupid samba mix (chap), Friday, 8 July 2011 16:12 (fourteen years ago)
no
― DJP, Friday, 8 July 2011 16:14 (fourteen years ago)
Sanderson is going to be too busy to write his own fiction if this all keeps up
He was selected by Time magazine as one of the "2011 Time 100," a list of the "most influential people in the world."[1][2]
????

Apparently he's given the showrunners his notes and outlines for how the book series will end, in case something happens to him or he doesn't finish in time. Not that it matters, as I'd be shocked if the series ran for seven years.
― Gukbe, Friday, 8 July 2011 16:20 (fourteen years ago)
damn 6'3"
