nm figured it out, feelin so leet
― iatee, Monday, 27 June 2011 03:52 (fourteen years ago)
im seriously considering jail breaking my 3gs but im scared too. however i also don't want to pay $45 a month for a hotspot. A woman at my work did hers recently. She said ATT are supposedly trying to keep an eye on bandwidth used for this reason but they aren't trying too hard. noone she knows has been busted

You Americans keep getting shafted. I pay nothing for tethering. Nothing.

― Serial Chiller (sunny successor), Sunday, 3 July 2011 21:29 (fourteen years ago)
But do you have a bandwidth limit/
― Serial Chiller (sunny successor), Sunday, 3 July 2011 21:30 (fourteen years ago)

― Gary Barlow syndrome (Autumn Almanac), Sunday, 3 July 2011 21:46 (fourteen years ago)
(but my service also works so)
it costs me 8 cents a minute to call Australia from my cellphone.
― Serial Chiller (sunny successor), Sunday, 3 July 2011 23:08 (fourteen years ago)
i am shutting up now

What is the name of the company that provides service to iPhones in your land?

There's a new Kairosoft game out, FYI. Same folks who did GameDev Story. I like their games since you can run these little 16-bit pixel-art isometric worlds an b/c they're addicting as all hell

Synthcam is an intriguing free photography app.
http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/synthcam/id412992079?mt=8
Uses the video camera to create creative blur/fake bokeh as well as providing a way to take low-noise photos in low light.
I'm still getting the hang of it but already have some interesting results.

this must have been asked before but is there a good google apps client for phone yet?
― moonship journey to baja, Wednesday, 10 August 2011 19:46 (fourteen years ago)
i've just got an app that shortcuts to the web apps \(o_o)/
― remembrance of schwings past (gbx), Wednesday, 10 August 2011 20:04 (fourteen years ago)
yeah right now i just have it saved as a web app but I'm not crazy about how it runs in safari
is there a better browser yet? chrome for iPhone?
― moonship journey to baja, Wednesday, 10 August 2011 20:17 (fourteen years ago)
I like icab mobile.
― Jeff, Wednesday, 10 August 2011 20:18 (fourteen years ago)
I mean the google app works fine but yeah, it's mostly links to web apps

The CNN app is so mindnumbingly awful.

Would anyone be able to recommend a decent "news" app? NYT is alright.
― lol is not enough (blank), Wednesday, 10 August 2011 22:27 (fourteen years ago)
AP's isn't the worst thing in the world but I feel like someone must have done better.
― Clay, Wednesday, 10 August 2011 22:34 (fourteen years ago)
The Guardian? The BBC? Reuters?
― Alba, Wednesday, 10 August 2011 22:53 (fourteen years ago)
NYT w/ subscription is what i use. you can split it with a friend for $17/month (each).
― moonship journey to baja, Thursday, 11 August 2011 00:00 (fourteen years ago)
Reuters looks very nice. Will give it a whirl, thx.

McClatchy! Great and free.
I read the Guardian app the most tho

what the hell is happening with Calvetica - the developpers keep updating it beyond recognition and now explain that if I want sth that does what that app used to do (ie simple minimal calendar), I could buy their new "Tempus" app...!

How on earth did they get that on the app store? I saw what looked like a similar site, advertising the "conflict free" iPhone, but it was just designed to look like the apple site.
― dan selzer, Tuesday, 13 September 2011 13:20 (fourteen years ago)
double whoa @ phone story
― remembrance of schwings past (gbx), Tuesday, 13 September 2011 14:58 (fourteen years ago)
can you imagine the uproar if that app had been blocked?
― lukas, Tuesday, 13 September 2011 16:29 (fourteen years ago)
I bet it will be blocked shortly.
― dan selzer, Tuesday, 13 September 2011 16:40 (fourteen years ago)
nuh-uh
― lukas, Tuesday, 13 September 2011 16:44 (fourteen years ago)
yeah lukas is right. apple has much more to lose by blocking it.
the argument that "we can't control the third world, it is a net positive to support some sort of economic development there, even if local actors are twisting it toward negative ends" is how the first world sleeps at night and i'm sure that the vast majority apple consumers would be sympathetic to apple saying that too.
― mr peabody (moonship journey to baja), Tuesday, 13 September 2011 16:48 (fourteen years ago)

haha damn - too late!
― TracerHandVEVO (Tracer Hand), Tuesday, 13 September 2011 17:06 (fourteen years ago)
wow. well, can't say i think it's a wise move.
― mr peabody (moonship journey to baja), Tuesday, 13 September 2011 17:08 (fourteen years ago)
i think if tech sites gave a shit about global exploitation in the supply chain they would have written about it before now
― TracerHandVEVO (Tracer Hand), Tuesday, 13 September 2011 17:10 (fourteen years ago)
ok so me and apple both made mistakes today
― lukas, Tuesday, 13 September 2011 17:47 (fourteen years ago)
lol. I think this will blow up in Apple's face. It's true that most people don't give a shit about the ins and outs of 3rd world manufacturing, but this puts a fresh twist on that story. in fact I think more people probably care about the closed nature of the appstore ecosystem, which is also involved here.
― Volvo Twilight (p-dog), Tuesday, 13 September 2011 17:51 (fourteen years ago)
Have no explanation for them destroying Calvetica. Tempus really is the best of the lot, though -- even better than Agenda and has a good iPad version.
― stet, Tuesday, 13 September 2011 18:27 (fourteen years ago)
Will check out Tempus.
I don't think this will blow up in Apple's face. People aren't going to be like "hey man, how dare they censor this game that calls out their faults". Everyone's gonna be like "of course they'd kill that" and go on with there day.
Is their "conflict-free iPhone" page still up? Apple could stop that easily too considering it's mimicry of their trademarks.

So, box.net is giving 50GB cloud storage for 50 days for iOS users. Their usual free amount is 5GB. I signed up.
