Thanks to twitter, i now know what planking is. While my initial reaction is to ridicule it is a trend, perhaps a more constructive use of time would be mocking it in an equally insipid trend that requires as little physical & mental work as possible. I think Breathing is the only action left that qualifies.

So, really not a good look to not even bother to RSVP for a planned event but then spend day of said event tweeting about your awesome nap. Unfollowed irl too dude, sick of your shit.

there is this weird twitter campaign by masters of cinema, who release dvds in the uk, chronicling their attempt to amass support in calling for phaidon, who have a series of books under the title 'masters of cinema', to stop using the title. it's really ridiculous?, they're posting the like phone number of the phaidon head of marketing guy and inciting people to say I WILL NEVER BUY A PHAIDON BOOK AGAIN, moc staff will not return to work until this is sorted, etc.
i assume the generic phrase 'masters of cinema' existed before this dvd label used it.

Got upgraded to "new twitter" against my will - and now it doesn't work at all. Way to implement an "upgrade", by making something completely non functional.
― Aphex Twin … in my vagina? (Karen D. Tregaskin), Wednesday, 3 August 2011 21:11 (fourteen years ago)
new twitter works for me if i have, like, a page of updates to read, but as soon as i load more than three or four pages' worth it slows my browser down to a standstill.

Works on work computer. Still HATES it, tho.
Guess this means I have to upgrade Safari, which is just such a pain in the arse because my internet connection is so slow and the apple downloads always take ~forever~

Is a private account actually safe from the internet's prying eyes?
― just call me brian (krakow), Thursday, 4 August 2011 10:44 (fourteen years ago)
Only if you use https all the time.
― Aphex Twin … in my vagina? (Karen D. Tregaskin), Thursday, 4 August 2011 10:45 (fourteen years ago)
I think the perhaps sad truth is that one shouldn't say anything on the internet (however apparently anonymously) that one wouldn't want the world to potentially know.
― just call me brian (krakow), Thursday, 4 August 2011 10:48 (fourteen years ago)
I used to use Twitterfox/Echofon all the time but the new version is so awful it sent me back to using the Twitter homepage, which has always felt like a ridiculously clunky way to use Twitter.
― Matt DC, Thursday, 4 August 2011 10:51 (fourteen years ago)
x-post depends what you are concerned about.
If it's "I don't want my wife/parents/boss to read this!!!" then quite frankly, twitter's security isn't what you need to be worried about, but leaving your browser open or computer unlocked is a much bigger worry.
If it's more "will twittercorp roll over and sell my DMs on to advertisers, data aggregators, or the police" then the answer is of *course* they will, and nothing you put on there is ever private.
― Aphex Twin … in my vagina? (Karen D. Tregaskin), Thursday, 4 August 2011 10:56 (fourteen years ago)
It's the former. I'm too minutely solipsistic to be concerned with the latter.
