but the guy is still wearing his shoes he just under suspicion for planning to throw shoes which implies there has been at least one previous shoe throwing incident - which of course would be the time bush got some shoes thrown at him - after saddam was already dead

That cartoon is taking place in an alternate history America after Saddam invaded the US. Previous shoe throwing incident was when a group of patriot spies planned to throw a shoe at him 'Valkyrie' style. Shoes are now illegal in Allah Akbarmerika; they left loafers on him to send a message.

also duh throwing shoes is like a thing in arabia so it would not have been unheard of in saddam's day to preemptively hang suspected shoe throwers which according to the cartoon is basically what he did anyway

Hunh. Guess Michael Ramirez isn't dead after all. Apparently, that toon is part of his pitch for his upcoming book The Iranian Cockroach Lies Heavy, in which the US lost the war and a victorious Saddam unites with a re-elected Ahmadinnajad to spread Sharia law through-out the world. Saddam got the east coast, Iran got the rest. There's occasionally pre-emptive shoe-thrower hanging on the side. The weird part is that the book gets even more science-fictiony, in that Saddam keeps a tank of 72 virgin pre-cogs who dream and determine where crimes(e.g. shoe-related) will occur.

There's some recent interview where Ramirez talks about consulting the Qu'ran to determine where the plot should go, and gobbling handfuls of amphetamines all the while..

Nice bit of detail where the actual gizmos and the representations of gizmos on the sign both have little electrical squiggly lines

Vault Boy Bobblehead - Drinking (kingfish), Friday, 19 December 2008 07:52 (fifteen years ago) link

The kid on the Grinch cartoon is staring at a huge floppy disk labeled, porn. Considering he got that out of some pre-PC 8-inch floppy-reading relic, there's probably only about 1/2 a JPEG on it.

(1) You guys remember when that the crooked chicago governor with the big-ass hair ran for national office and then got elected? Good times.

(2) who is this guy talking to? Was it the demmycrats who went on and on about how their ticket had crazy experience, such experience to the point where any other consideration was irrelevant?

What a weird little place to set up a card table with a Nativity scene on it.

yeah, that's the thing. Of course we know that the situation is just random pedestrians freaking out whenever any sort of Nativity tchotke deigns impudence enough to break into their field of vision; doesn't matter if its in front of a church, a minor display in a shop, a hilariously mammoth display on the steps of city hall, or that scene in _Home Alone_.

And who the fuck lets their innocent tow-headed child hang out unchaperoned in front of the lingerie shop on the same block as your porn store?

i was shopping for a nativity set for my mom one year and was in this store that had like two dozen.

it didnt take long for me to realize that the baby jesus was missing from every single one. i asked the lady working there if someone stole all thier jesus babies and she said "no, we keep them behind the counter because people will steal them" lolllll
