well, i asked them, and all the counter girls said they just called me "Senor Pene Mas Grande."

They wouldn't tell me why, tho, or what that means. I hope they're not insulting me.

kingfish (Kingfish), Friday, 5 August 2005 17:34 (twenty years ago)

I just moved to San Diego from DC and I'm eating between 3 and 6 burritos every week.
Usually lobster burritos at El Zarape.
I also have In N Out like twice a week.
Incidentally, I have put on 145lbs since moving here.

TruthHammer, Friday, 5 August 2005 17:36 (twenty years ago)

Do you usually eat burritos while grieving, kingfish?

nickalicious (nickalicious), Friday, 5 August 2005 17:38 (twenty years ago)

I had a burrito last night for dinner and regretted it. Bleurgh.

jaymc (jaymc), Friday, 5 August 2005 17:39 (twenty years ago)

I rarely eat burritos - something about the big ol' flour tortilla just doesn't work for me.

luna (luna.c), Friday, 5 August 2005 17:56 (twenty years ago)

don't we all?

BURRITO NIGHT 2NITE

Dr. Glen Y. Abreu (dr g), Friday, 5 August 2005 18:01 (twenty years ago)

My lunch today will be a frozen burrito and a can of Red Bull.

One day, in a hospital bed, I'll wonder if it was all worth it.

Pleasant Plains /// (Pleasant Plains ///), Friday, 5 August 2005 18:03 (twenty years ago)

I was watching LOST the other night thinking how, if I was stranded on that island, by day 30 I'd be wrapping raw, whole fishes in palm fronds and calling them "burritos". And puking all over Hurley's FUPA.

nickalicious (nickalicious), Friday, 5 August 2005 18:06 (twenty years ago)

kingfish i think what they're doing is like when you call a fat guy "slim". ZING etc

Dr. Glen Y. Abreu (dr g), Friday, 5 August 2005 21:22 (twenty years ago)

i think what they're doing is like when you call a fat guy "slim".

it took you 3 hours for that one? jeez...

kingfish (Kingfish), Friday, 5 August 2005 21:23 (twenty years ago)

I have never eaten a burrito. Is there something wrong with me?

Stan Fields (Stan Fields), Friday, 5 August 2005 21:56 (twenty years ago)

yes.

unequivocably.

kingfish (Kingfish), Friday, 5 August 2005 23:00 (twenty years ago)

Never even had a taco...
Only been to Taco Bell once. Only went to the drive-thru. Only got fries.

These are obviously things that I need to change.

Stan Fields (Stan Fields), Friday, 5 August 2005 23:16 (twenty years ago)

What the fuck, Stan! That's enough to make anyone with a taste bud cry. You poor kid.

Truckdrivin' Buddha (Rock Hardy), Saturday, 6 August 2005 00:31 (twenty years ago)

you can get fries at taco bell?

caitlin oh no (caitxa1), Saturday, 6 August 2005 01:23 (twenty years ago)

ones in canada, yes.

loco burrito on graham: sunday and monday
burritoville on 23rd: tuesday

hstencil (hstencil), Saturday, 6 August 2005 01:25 (twenty years ago)

don't make your first mexican food experience a taco bell visit, please.

polyphonic (polyphonic), Saturday, 6 August 2005 02:55 (twenty years ago)

indeed; make sure it involves flautas, too

kingfish (Kingfish), Saturday, 6 August 2005 08:21 (twenty years ago)

I don't see it ending any time soon either, this lack of Mexican food consumption. I'll likely die never knowing what tortilla-based foods could have contributed to my pathetic existence.

Stan Fields (Stan Fields), Saturday, 6 August 2005 14:41 (twenty years ago)

Where do you live, Siberia, Antarctica, North Korea?

Truckdrivin' Buddha (Rock Hardy), Saturday, 6 August 2005 14:43 (twenty years ago)

3 times this week!

rdrz, Sunday, 7 August 2005 22:56 (twenty years ago)

I dont think many australians eat burritos either fwiw, sure we have some mexican places but nothing much - seems you guys eat mexican like we eat chinese or greek souvlaki takeaways.

Trayce (trayce), Sunday, 7 August 2005 23:13 (twenty years ago)

update/correction: make it four times this week. four.

ai lien (kold_krush), Monday, 8 August 2005 00:14 (twenty years ago)

Mexican food : the U.S. :: Indian food : the U.K.

If you can understand that analogy, Trayce, you're in.

The Edge Of America (Dee the Lurker), Monday, 8 August 2005 01:24 (twenty years ago)

we eat chinese like crazy too!
i pity anyone who has never had good mexican. best cuisine in the world.

oops (Oops), Monday, 8 August 2005 05:05 (twenty years ago)

Only, I dont like chilli ;P I've told you this too! =)

Trayce (trayce), Monday, 8 August 2005 05:15 (twenty years ago)

trayce there is an outstanding mexican place in barkly st - 'bluecorn'. if everything you know about mexican food is old el paso and taco bill you're in for a spectacularly nice surprise.

jimmy glass (electricsound), Monday, 8 August 2005 05:31 (twenty years ago)

(as was the case with me)

jimmy glass (electricsound), Monday, 8 August 2005 05:31 (twenty years ago)

I've had mexican at Mexicali Rose, and I'm told its meant to be one of the best/most authentic mexican places in Melb, if not the country (perhaps hyperbole, I dunno heh). It was nice food! I do like mexican, but gimme good rustic italian any day.

Trayce (trayce), Monday, 8 August 2005 05:34 (twenty years ago)

i come home to italian food: she's my wife. she always knows how to soothe me. mexican food is my hot-tempered mistress. sometimes she gets violent and hurts me...but i like it.

oops (Oops), Monday, 8 August 2005 07:53 (twenty years ago)

Just to bring the average down, 0.

I like the concept but I don't agree with the ratings at all!

gygax! (gygax!), Monday, 8 August 2005 17:27 (twenty years ago)

It's like the Pitchfork of burritos.

Wilco! Radiohead! Wizard's cap!

gygax! (gygax!), Monday, 8 August 2005 17:28 (twenty years ago)

Mexican food : the U.S. :: Indian food : the U.K.

Not that I was the first one to make this analogy or anything, but this also occurred to me, especially when I was searching like crazy for a can of refried beans at Sainsbury's amidst dozens of jars of curries and packages of naan.

jaymc (jaymc), Monday, 8 August 2005 17:48 (twenty years ago)

having had a great deal of experience with the two in recent months i can safely say that i strongly prefer california tortilla co. to baja fresh

ct has more choices and doesn't try to overfeed you--there are a few things you can order that aren't supersized...everything at bf is more of a hearty meal

unfortunately bf is the one near my work

Mary (Mary), Tuesday, 9 August 2005 00:20 (twenty years ago)

three weeks pass...
My weekly burrito consumption might increase in the near future. There's a new Meixcan foodtruck at 16th & Callowhill in Philadelphia (right near a major INS office). I had a feeling they were going to have good food, and I was right. (Only thing: I shouldn't really be eating cheese, but I can maybe hold the dairy stuff in the future.) I had a wonderful sweet potato & black bean burrito. My experience with Mexican food is pretty limited, but I'm guessing this might be the most authentic that I've eaten.

Rockist_Scientist (RSLaRue), Thursday, 1 September 2005 18:11 (twenty years ago)

I ate at burritoville twice while in NY. No POY BOMBX though...

Dr. Glen Y. Abreu (dr g), Thursday, 1 September 2005 18:18 (twenty years ago)

i was going to restart this thread today, too. burritos can have a calming effect.

kingfish 'doublescoop' moose tracks (kingfish 2.0), Thursday, 1 September 2005 18:30 (twenty years ago)

2 this week, so far. i can always contribute to this thread.

Crazy shit going down about shit not going down!

Poo Poo Wheelie, Thursday, 1 September 2005 19:04 (twenty years ago)

what things are you getting with cheese? i'm under the impression that putting cheese in everything isn't authentic. [note to fuckheads: i'm not saying authentic is better]

oops (Oops), Thursday, 1 September 2005 19:52 (twenty years ago)

Hmmm, well maybe it's no so authentic. So there cheese is there to fatten Americans and clog their sinuses? (Not that cheese has no benefits.) It looks like everything on the menu automatically comes with cheese except the enchiladas, I think. I have to say though that the burrito wasn't as smothered in cheese as some I've had. It also wasn't soggy like some I've gotten.
