lol I was just looking at his filmography, which seems to run the gamut from "tragic orphan" to "obsessive preteen stalker"

he was also in this: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shrooms_%28film%29

anyways, joffrey is a little shit. how many friends is he going to have left if he keeps up with the tongue cutting/insanity?!

Pretty typical medieval power consolidation move

I'm also never going to be able to think of Arya as Malcolm in the Middle again after this

so what happens with those barbarians that wanted to take over the Vale?! did they just get told to go to hell after the battle?!
a trivial point i guess, but i'm curious.

i feel bad for the joffrey kid, he has to through the rest of his life with that smug face

I don't remember what happened to them in the books so assume they're still floating around in the background as part of Tywin's army

chupacabra - a delicious burrito (DJP), Tuesday, 21 June 2011 21:21 (fifteen years ago)

SPOILER FOR THE HILL TRIBE CURIOUS (BUT NOT SUPER SPOILERY):

Tyrion takes them with him when he leaves Tywin's army. Not saying where they all go.

END SPOILER.

Natalie Dormer from the Tudors has been cast as Margaery Tyrell.

Any word on Stannis yet?

EZ Snappin, Thursday, 23 June 2011 18:28 (fourteen years ago)

I've taken the plunge into the book--nearly 100 pages in and it's still the first episode.

WARS OF ARMAGEDDON (Karaoke Version) (Sparkle Motion), Thursday, 23 June 2011 19:07 (fourteen years ago)

this show's use of nudity is so cheeky

in no way more ancient than fucking space (latebloomer), Friday, 24 June 2011 06:58 (fourteen years ago)

probably my biggest complaint with it. not that it ruins the show or anything, and sometimes it is purposeful. the general grievance seems to be down to "hey, we're HBO!" but I think it has more to do with "hey fantasy geeks, you like tits right?", which is much worse.

Gukbe, Friday, 24 June 2011 07:00 (fourteen years ago)

i wouldn't call myself a fantasy geek (although i did watch the entire first season of GAME OF THRONES so perhaps this particular elven longship has sailed) but i mean i like tits

nevertheless i almost wished the show had held off on them entirely until the last shot of the season just to up the impact of the whole STRIPPED TO NOTHING AND YET MORE POWERFUL THAN EVER thing but yeah this is an hbo adaptation of a series that was pretty titty to begin with so it's inevitable.

that would have been more "impactful" if she had also been bald the way shes supposed to be. and if she was nursing the dragons too.

☂ (max), Friday, 24 June 2011 10:54 (fourteen years ago)

cause then shes naked and weeeeird instead of naked

☂ (max), Friday, 24 June 2011 10:55 (fourteen years ago)

i wondered if they'd keep the nursing the dragons, i think that was the first time reading them i went 'errrrrrrr'

thomp, Friday, 24 June 2011 10:56 (fourteen years ago)

They probably though one weird breast feeding scene was enough for the season

Number None, Friday, 24 June 2011 11:18 (fourteen years ago)

what good is hbo if you can't do multiple weird breast feeding scenes

☂ (max), Friday, 24 June 2011 11:20 (fourteen years ago)

dragons are reptiles (they don't nurse from teats) so i think making it more herpetologically correct was a smart move on the part of hbo.

i was sort of wondering what they would start off eating.

Are they, though? If we're to think that dragons are flying, fire-breathing dinosaurs, then it's not so clear.

E.L. Doctorow Who (Leee), Saturday, 25 June 2011 17:14 (fourteen years ago)

well they're not flying, fire-breathing potatoes

Not exactly "GoT (the book)" spoilers, but what the hey:

*** NOT EXACTLY SPOILER BUT SOME BOOK DETAIL STARTS BELOW

There's a point during the Hand's tournament where the Hound escorts Sansa back to the Red Keep and totally freaks her out (he's the one who tells her about the Mountain melting his face off), but by the second day, she seems to have grown attached to him -- am I reading that right? Am I to presume that their little heart-to-heart the night before is the beginning of a beautiful BFFship?

END WHATEVER THAT NON-SPOILER IS ***

Oh and btw, is there some kind of literary punning with Gregor Clegane and Sansa, i.e. Gregor Samsa?

Like, is there a compendium of high literary references in ASoFaI (e.g. Riverrun, Gregor/Sansa)?

Matt Groening's Cousin (Leee), Sunday, 26 June 2011 19:59 (fourteen years ago)

The Hound is Sandor, not Gregor

ciderpress, Sunday, 26 June 2011 20:01 (fourteen years ago)

D'oh! Can't keep those darned Cleganes straight.

Matt Groening's Cousin (Leee), Sunday, 26 June 2011 20:06 (fourteen years ago)

Hound = bad, Mountain = good-ish sort of.

Janet Snakehole (VegemiteGrrl), Sunday, 26 June 2011 20:13 (fourteen years ago)

I love the actor that plays Gregor. He was the "Yarp" fellow in Hot Fuzz :D

Janet Snakehole (VegemiteGrrl), Sunday, 26 June 2011 20:14 (fourteen years ago)

how is the Mountain better than the Hound?!

Mountain = killing his horse, destroying random village, melted his brothers face off etc etc

karma's ruthless invisible (The Cursed Return of the Dastardly Thermo Thinwall), Sunday, 26 June 2011 20:18 (fourteen years ago)

good-ISH

balls, Sunday, 26 June 2011 20:21 (fourteen years ago)

Fuck, dammit, now I'm confused. Hound is the one that's niceish to Sansa, Mountain is the burn-your-face one. Dammit. Sorry.

Janet Snakehole (VegemiteGrrl), Sunday, 26 June 2011 20:28 (fourteen years ago)

Hound is the one that stopped Sansa from shoving Joffrey to his death.
so... merely quasi-bad?

karma's ruthless invisible (The Cursed Return of the Dastardly Thermo Thinwall), Sunday, 26 June 2011 20:33 (fourteen years ago)

Yeah. Without being spoilery, what I've read so far he's more...conflicted. but I'm still only on the tail end of Book 2.
