Ha ha, he does sound like the Crash Test Dummies guy.

Do you guys know if their pre-Alligator albums are any good? They have all of them at that record store on Roscoe.

n/a, Tuesday, 25 September 2007 20:59 (eighteen years ago)

So apparently they played pitchfork last year. I guess I just hadn't heard of them then.

KitCat, Tuesday, 25 September 2007 20:59 (eighteen years ago)

I wish I could sing low. ;_;

n/a, Tuesday, 25 September 2007 21:00 (eighteen years ago)

Whoa, thats some interesting stuff about the CMJ submissions on Pitchfork. The headline is needlessly alarmist, but does sound like that SonicBid site needs to get its shit together.

jon /via/ chi 2.0, Tuesday, 25 September 2007 21:00 (eighteen years ago)

I didn't mean to start anything -- I just wondered if my lack of attention to little details of musicianship/recording had anything to do with my inability to like this band.

La Lechera, Tuesday, 25 September 2007 21:00 (eighteen years ago)

i can!

xp

river wolf, Tuesday, 25 September 2007 21:00 (eighteen years ago)

Mr. November is pretty upbeat.

KitCat, Tuesday, 25 September 2007 21:00 (eighteen years ago)

IMHO Sonicbidzz blows.

KitCat, Tuesday, 25 September 2007 21:00 (eighteen years ago)

Pre-Alligator = hit or miss, according to mattttttttt

dan m, Tuesday, 25 September 2007 21:00 (eighteen years ago)

La Lechera, Tuesday, 25 September 2007 21:01 (eighteen years ago)

Haha, I heard the tail end of "Mmm Mmm Mmm Mmm" on WXRT this morning.

jaymc, Tuesday, 25 September 2007 21:02 (eighteen years ago)

We went through SonicBids for our CMJ application last year and it is some b.s.

n/a, Tuesday, 25 September 2007 21:02 (eighteen years ago)

Lady on phone just now was BIOOOTTTCCCHHH.

KitCat, Tuesday, 25 September 2007 21:02 (eighteen years ago)

I keep forgetting to learn how to be more of a biotch to biotches.

KitCat, Tuesday, 25 September 2007 21:02 (eighteen years ago)

I thought we were all singing for BJs so we could have "harmonies."

n/a, Tuesday, 25 September 2007 21:02 (eighteen years ago)

That could be misinterpreted.

n/a, Tuesday, 25 September 2007 21:03 (eighteen years ago)

NICK SINGS FOR BJs

La Lechera, Tuesday, 25 September 2007 21:03 (eighteen years ago)

little details of musicianship/recording

Oh, actually, I don't know anything about that. I definitely know that there are some things I like because I have more of a background in music theory than most people (unusual chord progressions, time signatures, etc.), but I don't know jack about recording or gear.

jaymc, Tuesday, 25 September 2007 21:04 (eighteen years ago)

:-(

KitCat, Tuesday, 25 September 2007 21:04 (eighteen years ago)

There is a "hummer" joke in there somewhere.

dan m, Tuesday, 25 September 2007 21:04 (eighteen years ago)

I don't know anything about recording or gear! But I know when they way things are recorded sound good to me. And so do you (meaning everyone).

n/a, Tuesday, 25 September 2007 21:05 (eighteen years ago)

the way obv.

n/a, Tuesday, 25 September 2007 21:05 (eighteen years ago)

Nick, get on gmail or call me.

KitCat, Tuesday, 25 September 2007 21:05 (eighteen years ago)

They have all of them at that record store on Roscoe.

hardboiled?

chicago kevin, Tuesday, 25 September 2007 21:05 (eighteen years ago)

yah

n/a, Tuesday, 25 September 2007 21:07 (eighteen years ago)

Go buy them, just to put a smile on Mark's face.

jaymc, Tuesday, 25 September 2007 21:07 (eighteen years ago)

I'm not sure I do know what sounds I like re: recording, really. I don't know that I could isolate something like that. Maybe. I dunno. I thought it was my lack of expertise but it turns out I just don't like that band's music. Oh well.

It smells like mad tuna fish in here and I don't know if I can take 2+ more hours of it.

La Lechera, Tuesday, 25 September 2007 21:07 (eighteen years ago)

Stank.

Jenny, Tuesday, 25 September 2007 21:08 (eighteen years ago)

is that like mad cow?

Jordan, Tuesday, 25 September 2007 21:08 (eighteen years ago)

river wolf, Tuesday, 25 September 2007 21:08 (eighteen years ago)

BJs = new band?

La Lechera, Tuesday, 25 September 2007 21:09 (eighteen years ago)

i met mark at a party at hstencil's place about 7 years ago. fuck, MORE than 7 years ago. i've been here a long time.

chicago kevin, Tuesday, 25 September 2007 21:09 (eighteen years ago)

Matt P. says that whenever he goes in there to give Mark a poster to put up, he always gets guilted into buying like two or three CDs. Mark even put on the new Iron & Wine while Matt was in the store to try to pique his interest.

xpost Yeah, remind me what BJs stands for?

jaymc, Tuesday, 25 September 2007 21:09 (eighteen years ago)

Waht is BJs? And don't say blow jobs because DUH.

xp - Ha! Me and Amander = same page. And John.

Jenny, Tuesday, 25 September 2007 21:09 (eighteen years ago)

I think the Solo Demos version of Okkervil River's The Stage Names may be one of my favorite things I've heard this year.

jon /via/ chi 2.0, Tuesday, 25 September 2007 21:09 (eighteen years ago)

Gasp! Okkervil River! I forgot about that band. Boy I sure did like that one album from like... jesus, five years ago?

Jenny, Tuesday, 25 September 2007 21:10 (eighteen years ago)

I haven't listened to the OR album, something about the description made me think I wouldn't like it. Is it country-ish?

n/a, Tuesday, 25 September 2007 21:11 (eighteen years ago)

I suppose there are a couple of country-sounding songs if you aren't really paying attention to it, but I wouldn't use that word to describe any of it.

jon /via/ chi 2.0, Tuesday, 25 September 2007 21:16 (eighteen years ago)

BJs = secret?

JA RULE
The Mirror
November 13
The Queens rapper spices up his latest tranche of thug-love jams with some attention-getting samples: ''Father Forgive Me'' finds Ja growling along to a prominent snippet of the Beatles' ''Eleanor Rigby,'' while ''300'' features macho dialogue from the flick of the same name.

As if he wasn't annoying enough already.

jon /via/ chi 2.0, Tuesday, 25 September 2007 21:45 (eighteen years ago)

his latest tranche of thug-love jams
his what?

La Lechera, Tuesday, 25 September 2007 21:46 (eighteen years ago)

I was wondering that myself. What happened with the Beatles catalog recently that led to all the rappers sampling them legally now? The new Wu-Tang has a "While My Guitar Gently Weeps" sample.

jon /via/ chi 2.0, Tuesday, 25 September 2007 21:47 (eighteen years ago)

"The word tranche is French for slice; in the financial sense of the word, each bond is a slice of the deal's risk."
