Roman Polanski?

It's a good thing Tommy was able to explore his artistic impulses rather than enter politics in whatever magical country he came from

Latveria, maybe
if anyone remakes kiss meets the phantom of the park we at least know we've got our gene

for whatever reason I'm really hoping that his real place of origin never gets leaked. there are so many questions about the guy, but he talks SO MUCH and everything he says just adds more questions while resolving nothing. that's part of what makes him so awesome.
― frogbs, Friday, 17 June 2011 15:24 (fourteen years ago)
It's also important that he have no access to any actors or crew members with more than the most basic levels of competence at their disposal
the crew seemed decent though didn't they? the actors were not great but most of them were like 4th or 5th choices and aren't even really actors so for that they did alright. the only actively terrible actor was the guy who was dating Lisa's sister, he seemed to be the only one who didn't play his part straight at all. the problems with the movie had to do with the pacing and the dialogue, which Tommy apparently was reluctant to change no matter how much the actors tried to "help him out". apparently in the first cut he kept saying "you're TAKING me apart, Lisa!"
― frogbs, Friday, 17 June 2011 15:28 (fourteen years ago)
i know it's been posted already but this interview with Lisa is so good:http://www.praxismagazine.com/interview/jdan.htm

Lisa's sister
?!?!?!?!?
― Mordy, Friday, 17 June 2011 15:36 (fourteen years ago)
or friend? i think her name was michelle. he's the guy who's making out with her on the couch when his underwear mysteriously ends up in the cushions

I SAID basic competence

― coffeetripperspillerslyricmakeruppers (Latham Green), Friday, 17 June 2011 15:45 (fourteen years ago)
i like the story about how he was a negligent director b/c he would disappear every 10 minutes or so in order to psyche himself into character
― dell (del), Friday, 17 June 2011 16:29 (fourteen years ago)
I like the doctor in the movie - he is such an awful psychologist - for no reason he suddenly labels Lisa a psychopath - just becuase she is having an affair
― coffeetripperspillerslyricmakeruppers (Latham Green), Friday, 17 June 2011 16:40 (fourteen years ago)
I'm going to start referring to sneaking booze as "psyching myself into character" now
― da croupier, Friday, 17 June 2011 16:47 (fourteen years ago)
xp probably the best character is the guy who he inexplicably gets replaced with like 80% of the way into the film
― frogbs, Friday, 17 June 2011 17:08 (fourteen years ago)
you mean the "i feel like i'm sitting on top of an atomic bomb waiting for it to explode"-guy
― sonderangerbot, Friday, 17 June 2011 17:09 (fourteen years ago)
the only actively terrible actor was the guy who was dating Lisa's sister, he seemed to be the only one who didn't play his part straight at all
C'mon this guy was great! Such a natural "freaky jock". I've known guys like him.

Btw anyone see Troll 2??
― coffeetripperspillerslyricmakeruppers (Latham Green), Friday, 17 June 2011 17:23 (fourteen years ago)
It's an entertaining film but not quite in the same league of ed woody wtf. Especially fun for a cheap 80s horror but fits that fomat well enough.

at this point though it kinda feels like reading the bible. i'm so familiar with the big scenes from reading about them in other places that what's the point.

it's still worth seeing! the great thing about this movie is the all-you-can-eat levels of wtf-ness even during the scenes that haven't already been youtubed to death.

Also would like to add that, despite the fact that everyone thinks it's necessary to watch this movie in a group, the best part of watching it alone is that you can unselfconsciously skip the sex scenes. They're just too much.
― fields of salmon, Saturday, 18 June 2011 02:06 (fourteen years ago)
If you skip the sex scenes you are skipping the sex scene songs, and I would never want to do that.
YOU ARE MY ROOOOOOOSE
― polyphonic, Saturday, 18 June 2011 02:07 (fourteen years ago)
srsly, the pain of watching those sex scenes is essential
― Nhex, Saturday, 18 June 2011 02:08 (fourteen years ago)
belly button thrustin'
― Crazed Mister Handy (kingfish), Saturday, 18 June 2011 03:45 (fourteen years ago)
leathery reptile-skinned gyrating tommy in those scenes one of the crowning achievements of the film imho
― Mordy, Saturday, 18 June 2011 04:57 (fourteen years ago)
we finally watched Birdemic last night and it is incomparable to the Room. the former is your standard poorly made terrible flick. The Room is sublime.
― Mordy, Tuesday, 21 June 2011 14:59 (fourteen years ago)
wouldn't say that Birdemic is "standard", I have never seen nor could I imagine a movie as poorly made as that one, but yeah, you can't really compare the two. before I watched The Room I was told a lot of things like "it's not just your standard "so bad it's good flick, it's something different" - 20 years from now nobody will remember stuff like "Snakes on a Plane" but I'll bet they're still watching The Room
― frogbs, Tuesday, 21 June 2011 15:03 (fourteen years ago)
it was exceptionally poorly made, yes, but I could barely watch it bc of that. soooo boring.
― Mordy, Tuesday, 21 June 2011 15:05 (fourteen years ago)
"quiet storm"
― coffeetripperspillerslyricmakeruppers (Latham Green), Tuesday, 21 June 2011 15:11 (fourteen years ago)
it's better if you've ever tried to make movies in high school with a group of friends since it kind of brings back memories
obviously birdemic is terrible since it gets off on the wrong foot right away via an excruciating credits scene - I mean the movie is 45 minutes in before the plot goes anywhere at all...pretty remarkable
― frogbs, Tuesday, 21 June 2011 15:11 (fourteen years ago)
Strongo, you really should see the Room. Trust me.

The bible is not as essential.

Jesus wants to be like Johnny, but comes off more like Denny.
― I don't know who Cerebus is, and I'm 6'0 and 192 (Nicole), Tuesday, 21 June 2011 15:23 (fourteen years ago)
About Denny:
AVC: What do you think Philip Haldiman brought to the role of Denny?
TW: I think he brought a lot stuff. One thing was people actually, he’s really retarded a little bit.
