just because this thread happened to take on a sweaty locker room-ish vibe doesn't mean you need to resort to your outdoor voice. sheesh.

dell (del), Friday, 17 June 2011 13:57 (fifteen years ago)

Oh god looking through the YouTube clips.. is just.. like I actually didn't hear about 50% of the dialogue in this movie because people were yelling so much. The flower shop scene is amazing, she's like "Oh hi Johnny, I didn't realize it was you!" Yeah how could you, guy is unrecognizable with his shades on

40% chill and 100% negative (Tracer Hand), Friday, 17 June 2011 14:01 (fifteen years ago)

At one point they're all wearing tuxedos?? I never figured out why

40% chill and 100% negative (Tracer Hand), Friday, 17 June 2011 14:02 (fifteen years ago)

Strongo, you should totally still see it. Familiarity of clips didn't ruin the overall vibe at all - seeing it alone might be a chore, but worth some kind of date/group viewing, assuming you don't mind being a cliche.

"You're right. The computer business is too competitive."

dell (del), Friday, 17 June 2011 14:08 (fifteen years ago)

They're wearing tuxes because they're doing a wedding rehearsal, right? I never really figured that out either

I've seen a lot of bad movies - including the one with the infamous "GARBAGE DAY!!" scene (still my favorite scene of all time). The Room is kinda like that scene, over and over again. It's so perfect that it rises above parody. Especially the scenes with the guys just hangin' out, talking women, and throwing footballs. Like, "so, how is your sex life?" is a funny line, but the way he says it apropos of nothing in some random coffee shop conversation is what makes it so great.

frogbs, Friday, 17 June 2011 14:14 (fifteen years ago)

yeah, it's pitch-perfect wtf-ness nonstop.

dell (del), Friday, 17 June 2011 14:16 (fifteen years ago)

oh i think we all know i don't mind being a cliche, croup.

it seems i am the larry (strongo hulkington's ghost dad), Friday, 17 June 2011 14:16 (fifteen years ago)

i tend to think bad movies like "Snakes on a Plane" or "Birdemic" will probably be forgotten in a few years, but "The Room" is going to be a classic my whole life

frogbs, Friday, 17 June 2011 15:01 (fifteen years ago)

It's kind of amazing someone could still pull off an Ed Wood-ian triple threat with seemingly no self-awareness at this late a day, but Tommy Wiseau, man...Tommy Wiseau.

da croupier, Friday, 17 June 2011 15:03 (fifteen years ago)

I was hopeing a thread like this ouiwld come

I have this movie on both my ipods for quick viewing at any time

coffeetripperspillerslyricmakeruppers (Latham Green), Friday, 17 June 2011 15:07 (fifteen years ago)

if anyone ever makes another movie about a man who was raised on Mars for 30 years, then given a human form and transported to Earth in an attempt to blend in and make friends with humans, Tommy Wiseau should play that man

see how great it is when total creative control is given to a madman?

It's also important that he have no access to any actors or crew members with more than the most basic levels of competence at their disposal

It's a good thing Tommy was able to explore his artistic impulses rather than enter politics in whatever magical country he came from

Latveria, maybe

It's a good thing Tommy was able to explore his artistic impulses rather than enter politics in whatever magical country he came from

for whatever reason I'm really hoping that his real place of origin never gets leaked. there are so many questions about the guy, but he talks SO MUCH and everything he says just adds more questions while resolving nothing. that's part of what makes him so awesome.

frogbs, Friday, 17 June 2011 15:24 (fifteen years ago)

It's also important that he have no access to any actors or crew members with more than the most basic levels of competence at their disposal

the crew seemed decent though didn't they? the actors were not great but most of them were like 4th or 5th choices and aren't even really actors so for that they did alright. the only actively terrible actor was the guy who was dating Lisa's sister, he seemed to be the only one who didn't play his part straight at all. the problems with the movie had to do with the pacing and the dialogue, which Tommy apparently was reluctant to change no matter how much the actors tried to "help him out". apparently in the first cut he kept saying "you're TAKING me apart, Lisa!"

frogbs, Friday, 17 June 2011 15:28 (fifteen years ago)

i know it's been posted already but this interview with Lisa is so good:

Lisa's sister

?!?!?!?!?

Mordy, Friday, 17 June 2011 15:36 (fifteen years ago)

or friend? i think her name was michelle. he's the guy who's making out with her on the couch when his underwear mysteriously ends up in the cushions

frogbs, Friday, 17 June 2011 15:37 (fifteen years ago)

the crew seemed decent though didn't they?

I SAID basic competence

da croupier, Friday, 17 June 2011 15:40 (fifteen years ago)

"me underwears" he calls them xp

fields of salmon, Friday, 17 June 2011 15:41 (fifteen years ago)

yeah what is with that guys jaw???

coffeetripperspillerslyricmakeruppers (Latham Green), Friday, 17 June 2011 15:45 (fifteen years ago)

i like the story about how he was a negligent director b/c he would disappear every 10 minutes or so in order to psyche himself into character

dell (del), Friday, 17 June 2011 16:29 (fifteen years ago)

I like the doctor in the movie - he is such an awful psychologist - for no reason he suddenly labels Lisa a psychopath - just becuase she is having an affair

coffeetripperspillerslyricmakeruppers (Latham Green), Friday, 17 June 2011 16:40 (fifteen years ago)

I'm going to start referring to sneaking booze as "psyching myself into character" now

da croupier, Friday, 17 June 2011 16:47 (fifteen years ago)

xp probably the best character is the guy who he inexplicably gets replaced with like 80% of the way into the film

frogbs, Friday, 17 June 2011 17:08 (fifteen years ago)

you mean the "i feel like i'm sitting on top of an atomic bomb waiting for it to explode"-guy

sonderangerbot, Friday, 17 June 2011 17:09 (fifteen years ago)

the only actively terrible actor was the guy who was dating Lisa's sister, he seemed to be the only one who didn't play his part straight at all

C'mon this guy was great! Such a natural "freaky jock". I've known guys like him.

Btw anyone see Troll 2??

coffeetripperspillerslyricmakeruppers (Latham Green), Friday, 17 June 2011 17:23 (fifteen years ago)

It's an entertaining film but not quite in the same league of ed woody wtf. Especially fun for a cheap 80s horror but fits that fomat well enough.

da croupier, Friday, 17 June 2011 17:42 (fifteen years ago)

it's still worth seeing! the great thing about this movie is the all-you-can-eat levels of wtf-ness even during the scenes that haven't already been youtubed to death.

Also would like to add that, despite the fact that everyone thinks it's necessary to watch this movie in a group, the best part of watching it alone is that you can unselfconsciously skip the sex scenes. They're just too much.

fields of salmon, Saturday, 18 June 2011 02:06 (fourteen years ago)

If you skip the sex scenes you are skipping the sex scene songs, and I would never want to do that.

YOU ARE MY ROOOOOOOSE

polyphonic, Saturday, 18 June 2011 02:07 (fourteen years ago)

srsly, the pain of watching those sex scenes is essential
