Isaac Hayes did not quit "South Park." My sources say that someone quit it for him.

I can tell you that Hayes is in no position to have quit anything. Contrary to news reports, the great writer, singer and musician suffered a stroke on Jan. 17. At the time it was said that he was hospitalized and suffering from exhaustion.

It’s also absolutely ridiculous to think that Hayes, who loved playing Chef on "South Park," would suddenly turn against the show because they were poking fun at Scientology.

Last November, when the “Trapped in a Closet” episode of the comedy aired, I saw Hayes and spent time with him in Memphis for the annual Blues Ball.

If he hated the show so much, I doubt he would have performed his trademark hit song from the show, “Chocolate Salty Balls.” He tossed the song into the middle of one of his less salacious hits and got the whole audience in the Memphis Pyramid to sing along.

Yeah thats why I find the Foxnews article strange. Why is this guy saying "my sources" - wouldnt a stroke have been reported as news by now? I mean I hadn't heard anything elsewhere but yeah you'd think at least the Southpark team would know.

im not sure if anyone else saw it tonight, but they dealt with chef/issac hayes with an incredible amount of class. They also alluded to Scientology in the form of the "Super Adventure Club", whose founder discovered things very similar to theatans and found out that the meaning of life was to molest children (an accusaton frequently leveled on Hubbard). I know its shitty to make chef say that he is a child molester, but how else should South Park feel? Here is a guy who enjoyed the show tremendously, and had no problem with anything until they mentioned scientology. Then he goes to the press and says that he is quitting because South Park has crossed the line and is now nothing but offensive to religion. In a way, he raped Matt and Trey, the two people he owes for ressurecting his career. I mean, think of all those fucking chef aid CDs that were sold, all that merch he's gonna collect money on for the next thirty years.

scientology should be outlawed, but i realize that this is america, and we are all entitled to say and think what we want to. What Tom "Katie fucks me with a strap on" Cruise needs to learn is that no one has a right not to be offended.

Yeah, i know Chef was maimed in the end, but to a certain extent, fuck him. He's the one who hurt them. I just think that the overall tone of the episode was excellent. Something like: "We really don't wanna do this to Isaac/Chef, but he's giving us no choice. Regardless, we still love him, and this is scientology's fault. "

And on letterman last week, Matt and Trey says it takes 6 days to do an episode, from writing the story to the finished product.

So are we to assume that they ditched whatever they originally had planned for the season opener and put this episode in its place? If so, talk about flying by the seat of your pants (unless they knew about Hayes leaving the show long before the news got out).

Publicity stunt? The story certainly helped the ratings in the season opener, and if Hayes is ill this buys him some recovery time before Chef makes a comeback. If it's true he had a stroke, however mild, it could have affected his speech and therefore his ability to work.
