Was thinking about trying this after work today: http://www.gmap-pedometer.com/?r=4577216

Jeff, Tuesday, 14 June 2011 15:08 (fifteen years ago)

Just ordered a Garmin 110. Maybe it'll make me run faster?

i wanna be yr rhizome (seandalai), Tuesday, 14 June 2011 15:11 (fifteen years ago)

that's awesome, jeff! do it!!

tehresa, Tuesday, 14 June 2011 15:12 (fifteen years ago)

i am such a lazy asshole. but the weather is nicer this week. hope i will get out more.

tehresa, Tuesday, 14 June 2011 15:13 (fifteen years ago)

I finished it. Epic run.

Jeff, Wednesday, 15 June 2011 00:15 (fifteen years ago)

It's a great way to see a city, go for a 12 mile run in it. I need to do that more often when traveling.

Jeff, Wednesday, 15 June 2011 13:51 (fifteen years ago)

I'm feeling pretty good injury wise, no acute pains while running, just the normal fatigue pain. This is good. Maybe I can actually start running fast now.

Pain is a funny thing. Hilarious. I think a big turning point for me in my running the realization that having the constant fatigue pain and pushing myself harder when I do have it is awesome. I'm not satisfied with my running if I slow down when it hurts only just a little.

Jeff, Wednesday, 15 June 2011 13:58 (fifteen years ago)

my brother and sister are doing a triathlon at the start of july that i'm suddenly i'm real envious of them for. peculiar.

thomp, Wednesday, 15 June 2011 16:20 (fifteen years ago)

my grammar is gone to fuck today.

thomp, Wednesday, 15 June 2011 16:20 (fifteen years ago)

went like 5 miles yesterday, felt p good, starting to get back into the groove, been feeling sort of uncoordinated/out of shape after a traveling induced layoff

ice cr?m, Wednesday, 15 June 2011 16:27 (fifteen years ago)

man, last year i had a goal of doing a mini-triathlon. i am finally going to have enough money to buy a bike in july. maybe a goal for next year?

tehresa, Wednesday, 15 June 2011 16:29 (fifteen years ago)

so the other day, after having run the night before, my foot became spontaneously sore, along the outside edge (not heel, not toe.. midfootish). yesterday it felt ok on my run but maybe a mile or so in it got so painful i had to stop and walk back home, and by the time i got home walking was extremely painful, too.

i have been able to walk w/out pain if i keep the weight focused on the inside/ball of my foot when i step, but that requires conscious effort. what the hell is going on? also i am sad because i was really feeling good during my run until that and now i'm just frustrated because i want to get back out there.

tehresa, Sunday, 19 June 2011 20:35 (fifteen years ago)

could this be related to attempting to adjust to a midfoot strike? or is it something else? halp!

tehresa, Sunday, 19 June 2011 20:35 (fifteen years ago)

sorry to hear that, t.

cozen and i did the glasgow 10k together today. side by side until about the 8k point then he took off and finished in 51 minutes. I was a couple of minutes behind at just over 53. first time i have run that distance uninterrupted so i felt great.

jed_, Sunday, 19 June 2011 20:52 (fifteen years ago)

Tendinitis. Rest.

Jeff, Sunday, 19 June 2011 20:53 (fifteen years ago)

yup, was a great effort from jed_ tbh*. sub-1hr 10k is not to be sniffed at.

*I only took off btw cos I thought sub-50 was there to be had but turned out it was just out of reach :/

Lo_Ol (cozen), Sunday, 19 June 2011 21:00 (fifteen years ago)

you would have done it had we not spent the first 10 minutes trapped in a slow group!

jed_, Sunday, 19 June 2011 21:03 (fifteen years ago)

wtg dudes!

tehresa, Sunday, 19 June 2011 21:11 (fifteen years ago)

:-D

jed_, Sunday, 19 June 2011 21:13 (fifteen years ago)

also i have been wearing some really flat sandals w/ 0 support lately and wonder if that has contributed to foot problem. boo :(

tehresa, Sunday, 19 June 2011 21:17 (fifteen years ago)

i'm jealous. that looks like fun.

managed a 7 minute mile the other night. very proud of myself for that one.

ran hills and steps yesterday. starting to think my foot has healed? hope so.

jeff, Sunday, 19 June 2011 21:20 (fifteen years ago)

heartbreak beet (La Lechera), Sunday, 19 June 2011 23:25 (fifteen years ago)

Just got back in from a 23 min 'run'. I seriously had to gut check myself just to finish. At 36 it's taking a while (and even longer than expected) to get back into shape.

So in lieu of anything else to brag about, I got these (Brooks Ravenna) brand new for 29.95 USD on eBay and love 'em

I've been running a few times with my Kinvara 2's and they are hard to get used to. I may have to put my orthotics in them for some arch support.

Just went over 400 miles on my Newtons. Still like them a lot.

Jeff, Monday, 20 June 2011 00:02 (fifteen years ago)

yeah i just got so excited about spring weather that i was wearing my FLAT sandals all the time and now i am paying for it :(
xpost

tehresa, Monday, 20 June 2011 01:56 (fifteen years ago)

did hills n' steps again this a.m. (with my ex, kinda weird) and i feel really strong now. time 2 go nuts again

jeff, Monday, 20 June 2011 22:04 (fifteen years ago)

50 miles?

Jeff, Monday, 20 June 2011 22:16 (fifteen years ago)

Did a social run/relay this past weekend in St. Louis. End up with over 16 miles through 4 legs. Felt great. I kicked the arch at the end.

Jeff, Tuesday, 28 June 2011 00:05 (fourteen years ago)

there's a new 10k which starts approximately two minutes from where i live. i suppose i should go

thomp, Tuesday, 28 June 2011 09:12 (fourteen years ago)

Ran 8 miles this morning. Second morning run I've tried in as many weeks. It still sucks, but I got the miles in. Will probably hit a hundred this month for the first time in awhile. I think I'm healthy.

Jeff, Tuesday, 28 June 2011 23:16 (fourteen years ago)

100 mile month, first one since last august.

Jeff, Wednesday, 29 June 2011 14:10 (fourteen years ago)

That is a lot of miles. My feet hurt just reading that. Well done!

tobo73, Wednesday, 29 June 2011 15:21 (fourteen years ago)

been feel extremely tight and slow recently, finally had a really good run yesterday for the first time since my 3 month traveling imposed layoff, felt like i was just skipping along the surface of the earth, best that ive felt since i switched to a mid striking gait

ice cr?m, Wednesday, 29 June 2011 16:54 (fourteen years ago)

I feel like I should be doing more, my max week has been 32 miles. To improve I should be doing 40 to 50 a week during peak training. I should also be doing speedwork.

Jeff, Wednesday, 29 June 2011 17:27 (fourteen years ago)

wahtre u training for

ice cr?m, Wednesday, 29 June 2011 17:30 (fourteen years ago)

Half marathon in august, but I'm eyeing another marathon in early 2012.

Jeff, Wednesday, 29 June 2011 17:31 (fourteen years ago)

r u trying to do the half really fast or something

ice cr?m, Wednesday, 29 June 2011 17:32 (fourteen years ago)

Sure! I try and run every race fast as I can. No need to try and go slower if I'm not injured. Wouldn't be much fun otherwise.

Jeff, Wednesday, 29 June 2011 17:40 (fourteen years ago)

50 miles?

i wish. it's been way too hot to run lately, so i've just been hitting the gym and doing hill/step work. i need to get back to running though because it's the only way i'm going to lose weight. will probably shoot for a 30 or 40 mi run in october or i may just see how fast i can run that big sur hot springs loop that i did a month ago.

jeff, Wednesday, 29 June 2011 19:39 (fourteen years ago)

What would you expect your base mileage would be before attempting that?

Jeff, Wednesday, 29 June 2011 21:12 (fourteen years ago)

25' this evening, first run since March. Going to be a long road back.

boxall, Wednesday, 29 June 2011 23:38 (fourteen years ago)

Going to be a long road back.

Yeah, I'm on that road now, and I'm experiencing failure and frustration and discouragement to a degree I never have before. I'm abandoning runs just minutes in, which is not me at all. I have the abstract desire to run and to be a runner, but when it's time to run it's difficult and unenjoyable. Don't know what the deal is; I've been a consistent runner for most of my life. Ugh.

wizard is hongro (rip van wanko), Thursday, 30 June 2011 00:15 (fourteen years ago)

I'm dealing with my first extended layoff in years - first ever involuntary one (injury) - and yeah it's hard to get back in. Each week I tell myself "ok, this week you're going to get serious" and then I flake. Yesterday I ran my first sub-6-minute miles in ages, maybe this is the right week at last. Plan to do a marathon in October so I really need to start training properly.

Samantha Mumbahton (seandalai), Thursday, 30 June 2011 00:30 (fourteen years ago)

Yeah I've been there and probably will have to fight discouragement over the next few months if I'm going to make it stick. If you've been a runner most of your life I'm sure it'll come back.

boxall, Thursday, 30 June 2011 00:33 (fourteen years ago)

Ran a 6:19 mile today. It sucked, I hate balls out running sometimes.

Jeff, Friday, 1 July 2011 20:42 (fourteen years ago)

Got a 5k tommorow. Going for around 22 minutes. These always SUCK.

Jeff, Friday, 8 July 2011 20:27 (fourteen years ago)

Also, I'm suddenly traveling to Hong Kong and will be there for two weeks. Anyone run there before?

Jeff, Friday, 8 July 2011 20:30 (fourteen years ago)

I volunteered at my local parkrun last weekend, managing the finishing funnel. Watching the sub 20' guys finish was an eyeopener—I had no idea people could run themselves into such a state. I'll stick to the slowish jogging for now, thank you :)

scotstvo, Friday, 8 July 2011 23:21 (fourteen years ago)

22:43, PR'ed by 1 whole second.

Jeff, Saturday, 9 July 2011 14:18 (fourteen years ago)

A PR's a PR, and in far from ideal conditions for a 5K - well done.
