It’s like the writers are afraid that if Daenerys enjoys the sex, the audience will forget that politically expedient quasi-consensual child marriages are a BAD thing.

Well, considering the current relationship status between Dany and Drogo, we're still at a point where we might "forget that politically expedient quasi-consensual child marriages are a BAD thing."

Also, I hope that the poster who complained about my speculation was just being a hyper-sensitive spoilerphobe (which I consider myself to be one, incidentally) and not someone who read the book and took my speculation as, you know, a spoiler.

Doctoral Who (Leee), Saturday, 11 June 2011 21:46 (fifteen years ago)

Btw, I started reading the book, and damn aitch-bee-oh changed a whole lot. For instance, in the book, Bran only caught Jaime and Cersei wrestling!

Doctoral Who (Leee), Sunday, 12 June 2011 20:29 (fifteen years ago)

Wasn't the assumption that he was too young to understand what they were doing?

Gukbe, Sunday, 12 June 2011 21:10 (fifteen years ago)

or are you joking and I'm looking pretty stupid?

Gukbe, Sunday, 12 June 2011 21:10 (fifteen years ago)

My wife smacked me when it happened, "what the fuck? How could they? ARRGH". In other words, no. :)

I liked the dude, but in retrospect, i guess he was pretty shit at the Game of Thrones.

Gukbe, Monday, 13 June 2011 02:10 (fifteen years ago)

Pretty much what my wife was getting at!

I'm glad I haven't read the books, and I think I'll give up on reading them. However, I was so sure something was going to turn up to save Ned (a Raven informing them of Jamie's capture was my bet) that I didn't really appreciate the death. I liked the silence as he looked over the crowd though.

Gukbe, Monday, 13 June 2011 02:56 (fifteen years ago)

yeah, i think the reason its so effective is because it keeps reminding you of ned's plot armor - and then kills him anyway

I've seen comments along the lines of "what's the point in even watching if your favourite characters are just gonna get killed all the time"

Number None, Monday, 13 June 2011 19:04 (fifteen years ago)

My wife is still pissed about it. She sent me an email over lunch that just read "I still can't belive they killed him!".

"what's the point in even watching if your favourite characters are just gonna get killed all the time"

Not fans of The Wire either, eh?

the fey bloggers are onto the zagat tweets (jon /via/ chi 2.0), Monday, 13 June 2011 19:05 (fifteen years ago)

that is precisely the point of watching!

all the pretty HOOSes (gbx), Monday, 13 June 2011 19:05 (fifteen years ago)

But, tbh, if Ned Stark was your favorite character, well, you're watching wrong.

the fey bloggers are onto the zagat tweets (jon /via/ chi 2.0), Monday, 13 June 2011 19:06 (fifteen years ago)

If Arya and Tyrion aren't your favorite characters you're a horrible person.

EZ Snappin, Monday, 13 June 2011 19:07 (fifteen years ago)

like once I realized that offing characters was like "a thing" it made the books even more addictive imo

all the pretty HOOSes (gbx), Monday, 13 June 2011 19:07 (fifteen years ago)

Number None, Monday, 13 June 2011 19:08 (fifteen years ago)

I dig the idea of Ned's character, but in reality he's pretty damn boring. You don't have to agree with a character's motivations to find them completely engaging.

the fey bloggers are onto the zagat tweets (jon /via/ chi 2.0), Monday, 13 June 2011 19:09 (fifteen years ago)

eh i dont really blame them, sean bean is the biggest or second-biggest name in the cast by a very long shot, plus he was the focus of the marketing campaign--if i was watching the show w/out having read the books id be telling myself "no way theyre going to kill off sean bean, itd be like killing off tony soprano/steve buscemi in that other show/jimmy mcnulty"
