I assume you tell it what to put on it, just like you do now with playlists.

I've been downloading stuff I bought using my phone that wasn't currently on it via the iTunes app; it all ends up connected to the "Purchased on this iPhone" playlist.

I'd hate to have to systematically sync my "purchased" playlist since it mostly contains drunkenly shazam-ed atrocities.

licorice oratorio (baaderonixx), Thursday, 9 June 2011 14:16 (fifteen years ago)

Sounds like that would be a brilliant playlist!

I hate these DRm itunes purchases - why should I have less ability to do things with files I actually paid for? so idiotic

Latham Green, Thursday, 9 June 2011 20:09 (fifteen years ago)

Do you mean video or apps? Because they dropped DRM on music files a long time ago.

mh, Thursday, 9 June 2011 20:10 (fifteen years ago)

it was music but the drm is stil there apparently

Latham Green, Thursday, 9 June 2011 20:15 (fifteen years ago)

On existing files you downloaded in the past, or recently downloaded ones? I think you should be able to use the new redownload functionality to grab fresh un-drm'ed copies if you want.

mh, Thursday, 9 June 2011 20:23 (fifteen years ago)

I better befuckinable to!
if someone had this issue with mp3's of mine that they had downloaded I would be pissed at apple. poor customer service, but that is mainly the RIAA not getting it again

Latham Green, Thursday, 9 June 2011 20:26 (fifteen years ago)

also the thing about "you have authorized too many computers to play these files" why dont you just put up a sing saying " STEAL MUSIC ITS BETTER THAT WAY"

Latham Green, Thursday, 9 June 2011 20:28 (fifteen years ago)

Turns out us Britishers aren't getting cloudtunes after all. At least not this year.

If Steve Jobs was Davros the Daleks wouldn't be covered in all those buttons.

James Mitchell, Friday, 10 June 2011 07:51 (fifteen years ago)

Why do you think he ripped the shell off himself?

Alba, Friday, 10 June 2011 07:56 (fifteen years ago)

Oh no, wait, he still had the bottom bit, doesn't he? Good point, well made.

Alba, Friday, 10 June 2011 07:57 (fifteen years ago)

actualyl steve jobs designed ILXOR - taht is why its so stripped down

Latham Green, Friday, 10 June 2011 12:34 (fifteen years ago)

Having a hell of a time trying to work out how icloud will work for families who share an apple id but want unique icloud/mobileme functions per person (e.g. email address, file storage). Google proving useless atm. Perhaps I should just wait until people actually get to use the thing.

I'd assume playlists

low-rent black gangster nicknamed Bootsy (DJP), Sunday, 12 June 2011 23:32 (fifteen years ago)

it's already a pain the ass to sync two iphones on one machine. every time I do this I forget to log out my wife from itunes and it half-syncs all these apps I didn't buy, and then can't use.

british sb power (dayo), Monday, 13 June 2011 00:36 (fifteen years ago)

is there a book or something i can buy that explains, in technical detail, how mac os x works

markers, Monday, 13 June 2011 01:46 (fifteen years ago)

if so, please refer AA to it

mh, Monday, 13 June 2011 01:50 (fifteen years ago)

But really I would recommend digging around arstechnica.com for their history of OS X articles. They're long-winded, but really informative for that sort of thing.

mh, Monday, 13 June 2011 01:53 (fifteen years ago)

lmfao mh, i was literally JUST reading a john siracusa article (although not one of his mac os x reviews, which i should go read [at least the latest one])

i also listen to his podcast hypercritical -- http://5by5.tv/hypercritical -- regularly

\(^o^)/

markers, Monday, 13 June 2011 02:05 (fifteen years ago)

haw xp

We are Real solid sex doll AKA RSSD (Autumn Almanac), Monday, 13 June 2011 02:07 (fifteen years ago)

The short answer is "don't share an apple ID", tbh. Have separate IDs and separate iTunes accounts.

(You can still download apps the other has bought by signing into the store as them)

stet, Monday, 13 June 2011 06:48 (fifteen years ago)

ugh

We are Real solid sex doll AKA RSSD (Autumn Almanac), Monday, 13 June 2011 07:17 (fifteen years ago)

markers depends how technical you want. siracusa's reviews are the place to start. if you want more after that then get amit singh's thing: http://osxbook.com/

coffeetripperspillerslyricmakeruppers (Latham Green), Monday, 13 June 2011 12:49 (fifteen years ago)

I want to punch anyone who refers to OS X as "just like Linux."

mh, Monday, 13 June 2011 13:08 (fifteen years ago)

thanks caek! :D

markers, Monday, 13 June 2011 13:34 (fifteen years ago)

well the little "close window X" IS in the upper left side

coffeetripperspillerslyricmakeruppers (Latham Green), Monday, 13 June 2011 13:34 (fifteen years ago)

it's worth going through the siracusa reviews chronologically btw, or at least be sure to read 10.2-10.4. as the os has become more mature the reviews have become more about specific new features rather than "architecture"

caek, Monday, 13 June 2011 13:36 (fifteen years ago)

yeah, maybe i should just read a bunch of those. (i haven't read any of them yet. i just read the first of his three part series on "avoiding copeland 2010" and need to read the other two now)

markers, Monday, 13 June 2011 13:38 (fifteen years ago)

Plus, if you start at the beginning you get fun info on Rosetta and the other possibilities that were planned.

mh, Monday, 13 June 2011 14:26 (fifteen years ago)

good point -- i don't even know what that is

markers, Monday, 13 June 2011 14:48 (fifteen years ago)

and what is Darwin

coffeetripperspillerslyricmakeruppers (Latham Green), Monday, 13 June 2011 15:39 (fifteen years ago)

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Darwin_(operating_system)

mh, Monday, 13 June 2011 19:03 (fifteen years ago)

the tl;dr version is that it's the core kernel and system tools and it's BSD-derived
