I run alone 99% of the time.
― Jeff, Tuesday, 7 June 2011 16:16 (fifteen years ago)
sometimes run with friends but it presents complications...meeting up, people being late, wanting to hang out after but needing a shower, etc etc. easier to just get up and run alone...into the night.

I try to run alone but Jesus is always carrying me

Many newbie barefoot runners continue to stride as if they were in shoes, landing heavily on their heels. ouch! dudes
― ice cr?m, Wednesday, 8 June 2011 17:45 (fifteen years ago)
I took my mew Minimus trail shoes for a spin on the treadmill the other day, and found it more fatiguing on my muscles than it was to run trails with them. Really enjoying the whole minimal shoe thing, though. Over time I had adjusted my stride for mid-foot striking before actually trying minimal shoes, so now I no longer feel like I am fighting against the shoes to land on my mid-foot. The Asics I wore before had such a big cushioned heel that it was hard to avoid heel impact.
Not sure if this is the thread for it (maybe I'll start a new one if anyone is interested), but have any of you tried any of these "adventure race" things? I signed up for a Tough Mudder this fall and am super excited about it. Am training with weights, running, and HIIT type stuff.
― rockapads, Wednesday, 8 June 2011 17:51 (fifteen years ago)
Man reading this thread as someone who's just getting into running, when I hear about you guys running 12 miles or marathons or adventure races and stuff I get really pumped. And jealous. I want to be better at running to do those things right nooooow! Which I guess means that I'm starting to enjoy running so there's that at least.
― Jibe, Wednesday, 8 June 2011 18:04 (fifteen years ago)
i really wanted to do this rebel race thing (mud, obstacle course, etc) but i chickened out.
― tehresa, Wednesday, 8 June 2011 18:05 (fifteen years ago)
I've considered a warrior dash, but they are always in the suburbs so a pain in the ass to get to if you don't have a car. Plus I don't want my shoes to get muddy. Maybe I should run one barefoot.
― Jeff, Wednesday, 8 June 2011 18:07 (fifteen years ago)
Glad your getting pumped Jibe.
Was thinking about trying this after work today: http://www.gmap-pedometer.com/?r=4577216

i am such a lazy asshole. but the weather is nicer this week. hope i will get out more.
― tehresa, Tuesday, 14 June 2011 15:13 (fifteen years ago)
I finished it. Epic run.
― Jeff, Wednesday, 15 June 2011 00:15 (fifteen years ago)
It's a great way to see a city, go for a 12 mile run in it. I need to do that more often when traveling.
― Jeff, Wednesday, 15 June 2011 13:51 (fifteen years ago)
I'm feeling pretty good injury wise, no acute pains while running, just the normal fatigue pain. This is good. Maybe I can actually start running fast now.
Pain is a funny thing. Hilarious. I think a big turning point for me in my running the realization that having the constant fatigue pain and pushing myself harder when I do have it is awesome. I'm not satisfied with my running if I slow down when it hurts only just a little.

my brother and sister are doing a triathlon at the start of july that i'm suddenly i'm real envious of them for. peculiar.
― thomp, Wednesday, 15 June 2011 16:20 (fifteen years ago)
my grammar is gone to fuck today.
went like 5 miles yesterday, felt p good, starting to get back into the groove, been feeling sort of uncoordinated/out of shape after a traveling induced layoff
― ice cr?m, Wednesday, 15 June 2011 16:27 (fifteen years ago)
man, last year i had a goal of doing a mini-triathlon. i am finally going to have enough money to buy a bike in july. maybe a goal for next year?
― tehresa, Wednesday, 15 June 2011 16:29 (fifteen years ago)
so the other day, after having run the night before, my foot became spontaneously sore, along the outside edge (not heel, not toe.. midfootish). yesterday it felt ok on my run but maybe a mile or so in it got so painful i had to stop and walk back home, and by the time i got home walking was extremely painful, too.
i have been able to walk w/out pain if i keep the weight focused on the inside/ball of my foot when i step, but that requires conscious effort. what the hell is going on? also i am sad because i was really feeling good during my run until that and now i'm just frustrated because i want to get back out there.
― tehresa, Sunday, 19 June 2011 20:35 (fourteen years ago)
could this be related to attempting to adjust to a midfoot strike? or is it something else? halp!
sorry to hear that, t.
cozen and i did the glasgow 10k together today. side by side until about the 8k point then he took off and finished in 51 minutes. I was a couple of minutes behind at just over 53. first time i have run that distance uninterrupted so i felt great.
― jed_, Sunday, 19 June 2011 20:52 (fourteen years ago)
Tendinitis. Rest.
― Jeff, Sunday, 19 June 2011 20:53 (fourteen years ago)
yup, was a great effort from jed_ tbh*. sub-1hr 10k is not to be sniffed at.
*I only took off btw cos I thought sub-50 was there to be had but turned out it was just out of reach :/
― Lo_Ol (cozen), Sunday, 19 June 2011 21:00 (fourteen years ago)
you would have done it had we not spent the first 10 minutes trapped in a slow group!
― jed_, Sunday, 19 June 2011 21:03 (fourteen years ago)

also i have been wearing some really flat sandals w/ 0 support lately and wonder if that has contributed to foot problem. boo :(
― tehresa, Sunday, 19 June 2011 21:17 (fourteen years ago)
i'm jealous. that looks like fun.
managed a 7 minute mile the other night. very proud of myself for that one.

Just got back in from a 23 min 'run'. I seriously had to gut check myself just to finish. At 36 it's taking a while (and even longer than expected) to get back into shape.
So in lieu of anything else to brag about, I got these (Brooks Ravenna) brand new for 29.95 USD on eBay and love 'emhttp://shop.therunnershop.com/images/mens%20ravenna.jpg

I've been running a few times with my Kinvara 2's and they are hard to get used to. I may have to put my orthotics in them for some arch support.
Just went over 400 miles on my Newtons. Still like them a lot.
― Jeff, Monday, 20 June 2011 00:02 (fourteen years ago)
yeah i just got so excited about spring weather that i was wearing my FLAT sandals all the time and now i am paying for it :(xpost
― tehresa, Monday, 20 June 2011 01:56 (fourteen years ago)

― jeff, Monday, 20 June 2011 22:04 (fourteen years ago)
50 miles?
― Jeff, Monday, 20 June 2011 22:16 (fourteen years ago)
Did a social run/relay this past weekend in St. Louis. End up with over 16 miles through 4 legs. Felt great. I kicked the arch at the end.
― Jeff, Tuesday, 28 June 2011 00:05 (fourteen years ago)

Ran 8 miles this morning. Second morning run I've tried in as many weeks. It still sucks, but I got the miles in. Will probably hit a hundred this month for the first time in awhile. I think I'm healthy.
― Jeff, Tuesday, 28 June 2011 23:16 (fourteen years ago)
100 mile month, first one since last august.
― Jeff, Wednesday, 29 June 2011 14:10 (fourteen years ago)
That is a lot of miles. My feet hurt just reading that. Well done!
― tobo73, Wednesday, 29 June 2011 15:21 (fourteen years ago)
been feel extremely tight and slow recently, finally had a really good run yesterday for the first time since my 3 month traveling imposed layoff, felt like i was just skipping along the surface of the earth, best that ive felt since i switched to a mid striking gait
― ice cr?m, Wednesday, 29 June 2011 16:54 (fourteen years ago)
I feel like I should be doing more, my max week has been 32 miles. To improve I should be doing 40 to 50 a week during peak training. I should also be doing speedwork.
― Jeff, Wednesday, 29 June 2011 17:27 (fourteen years ago)
wahtre u training for
― ice cr?m, Wednesday, 29 June 2011 17:30 (fourteen years ago)
Half marathon in august, but I'm eyeing another marathon in early 2012.
