Even when it is not a literal sound effect it is some musical flourish that is communicating in response to whatever they just sang.

Dear Abbott.
When is it appropriate to give someone the business?
Yours,R.V.W.

Where you at?
― Ned Trifle X, Monday, 18 July 2011 13:07 (fourteen years ago)
ILX sabbaticals are pretty swell, folks. I'm a long way from taking one again, but having done it before, I'd recommend it to everybody.
I'm just picturing Abboott running wild in Pittsburgh or Wheeling with abandon, drinking liquor and dancing with unmarried men in taverns. She'll back to the village before too long, dying our vestments black while the menfolk raise the barns.
In the meantime, you're missed. Let us know when you're on Google+.

classic depressio on tha rocks
yah, fortunately i've been doing my best to steer away from the depressio for a while, seems to be working, sorta.
i wasn't sure if you were taking a break from ilx or if you were done done.
― future events are now current events (Z S), Friday, 5 August 2011 01:16 (fourteen years ago)
Yeah it's a break so I can focus on making shitty art while I kick ass at life. But today is fucking around day so it's a break from the break.
― Abbott, Friday, 5 August 2011 01:28 (fourteen years ago)

― caek, Friday, 5 August 2011 04:53 (fourteen years ago)

ha, germany was like, "hi, your first job is to go to the UK and then texas for a month, then think of what to do in the el paso/juarez/las cruces area for an afternoon/evening".
― caek, Friday, 5 August 2011 07:41 (fourteen years ago)
weird job imo. maybe i'm biased because i only had to spend a night there due to a broken down car, but for real las cruces isn't worth it.
was gonna suggest san antonio but it's 500 miles away too.
texas is fucking huge.
― ( •ิ.•ั) (gr8080), Friday, 5 August 2011 08:15 (fourteen years ago)
for real it is big. el paso seemed kind of weird on the way in (i was mostly by the airport and freeway driving so maybe that's not fair), and i was wondering if las cruces is worth the 1h drive.
― caek, Friday, 5 August 2011 09:23 (fourteen years ago)
most of my texas experience has been cutting through the panhandle or meeting up with people in Dallas but one time i drove I-10 from New Orleans to Tucson, just me and my dog. Swear to god when you cross over the state line from Louisiana, right after a huge "welcome to texas" sign, there's a run-of-the-mill milage sign that just says "el paso: 998 miles"
texas is some sick shit.
― ( •ิ.•ั) (gr8080), Friday, 5 August 2011 10:17 (fourteen years ago)
tbh the way you guys talk about some of these parts of the US (cf tera's thread abt Indiana) it kinda makes me wanna come see what the deal is.
― Rameses Street (Trayce), Friday, 5 August 2011 10:23 (fourteen years ago)
oh it's a beautiful kind of huge and boring tbh.
― ( •ิ.•ั) (gr8080), Friday, 5 August 2011 10:34 (fourteen years ago)
abbott if you're still reading how do you rate las cruces vs tucson?
haha yeah gr80. i have driven out to the observatory far west texas from both directions. coming from the west they warn you that you change time zones about 2 hours outside el paso so don't miss your flight out of el paso. coming east from austin they warn you that you will still technically be in the same time zone, but the sun is going to rise/set nearly an hour earlier/later, so don't miss the start of your night.
this is probably why i'm kind of excited about the whole greater el paso/las cruces area. two cities within 40 mins of each other! even if they are kind of dull compared to austin/san ant, etc. also i have never been to NM and i kind of want to be able to say i have.
― caek, Friday, 5 August 2011 10:39 (fourteen years ago)
as an american who has set foot in 47 of the 50 united states, i can admire that.

Friend of mine and I drove to Vegas from Arkansas, stopping over in Tyler, Texas, to visit a friend.
As we're getting out of the DFW metroplex, my buddy's looking at the map and says "Abilene's up next." I'm happy that we're speeding along through this godforsaken place. I point to the end of the map, on his left side. "So that's El Paso, right?"
He frowns, shifts in the passenger seat and unfolds the map like another nine or ten times where now the left edge of the map is over my steering wheel. "No. There's El Paso."

you're a terrible man for brazenly endangering fellow motorists for the sake of some literary tourism
― g++ (gbx), Friday, 5 August 2011 14:15 (fourteen years ago)
the size of TX is always more boggling to me than AK precisely because it is so drivable. it's easy to think of Alaska as inaccessible wild frontier, untrammeled by man and as out there as, like, siberia or w/e. but Texas is huge AND settled AND pretty easy to get around. irritating though it can be, i think i get why Texans can be so chauvinist, they've got their own fucking country
― g++ (gbx), Friday, 5 August 2011 14:18 (fourteen years ago)
So does Kyrygystan
― ≝ (Pleasant Plains), Friday, 5 August 2011 14:19 (fourteen years ago)
yeah but the city of el paso probably has more miles of road than kyrgyzstan

Abbott, I just saw a 9 or 10 year old kid walking around in dc with her family. she looked just like every childhood picture you've ever posted up in here and she was wearing a shirt that read "Stay Cool."
