Something very South Parky about these too. maybe the way the crowd politely applauds after each little trick.

I think it's the way the performance is based on figure skating and has to be themed, yet they just do a comically half assed little hand motion or something between slowly paddling forward and then slowly spinning around.

Latham Green, peep dis thread LEONCIE! Goan-Icelandic 'princess' and her synthsizer share shock and love with the world

LL Coolna (absolutely clean glasses), Monday, 30 May 2011 15:18 (fifteen years ago)

that is an original ethnic blending for sure. I wonder where the mammary glands were from - I'm guessing Iceland.

No, the golf clapping is what's getting me in these canoe vids.

scissorlocks and the three bears (Eric H.), Monday, 30 May 2011 16:02 (fifteen years ago)

first canoe video is genuinely one of the most f'ed up things i've ever seen on the internet. and goodness knows i have put in A LOT , BOATLOADS of time looking at f'ed up stuff on the internet

dell (del), Monday, 30 May 2011 16:14 (fifteen years ago)

also, it sounds like the mc or whatever quotes him as saying "i'd like to thank [blah blah blah] for their ADVICE, COMMENTS, AND CO-CAINE"

xpost

not saying that i got a boner while watching that video. BUT let's just say that the canoe wasn't the only thing that was standing erect at three qarters-to full mast via shitty mixed metaphors during that video

dell (del), Monday, 30 May 2011 16:25 (fifteen years ago)

trick my trick!

The canoe is unique in that it is both phallic, in the obvious ways, and vaginal, most apparent when the artist leans toward the audience, splaying, revealing the shapely inner canoe, the flower. It's...breathtaking.

All you haters think this is a fad, just wait- someday Tobias Osprey will do the first 900 in FC competition, then who will be golf-clapping then.

Ok sorry to keep the canoe discussion alive but:

im willing to bet that every person who chirped down there is either American and cant canoe, or they lack the skills to do anything cool in a canoe

You folks ever see any examples of Canadian Style Paddling? It would be interesting to compare notes: similarities and dissimiliarities.

Comment from the canoe video poster:

It's all about boat control, life and death in big water.

And yes, Marc is the best of the best at this IMHO. Too bad I had a falling out with one of the ringleaders of these events and am no longer welcome, I really enjoyed learning this stuff.

hee heeehe!!

Latham Green, Tuesday, 31 May 2011 14:05 (fifteen years ago)

A lot of big personalities in this sport, a lot of emotions. It's like paddling upstream sometimes. You've got to really balance those emotions, even when things look like they're about to capsize. Even then it seems like you're just slowly spinning in circles, and you can't figure out what the hell you're looking at. You get through it all, and it's like the drama is over, and you can golf-clap yourself for coming out a better person.

Wacky Way Lounge (Evan), Tuesday, 31 May 2011 14:19 (fifteen years ago)

I think we should start a freestyle canoe thread

Latham Green, Tuesday, 31 May 2011 14:23 (fifteen years ago)

Do it.

Wacky Way Lounge (Evan), Tuesday, 31 May 2011 14:26 (fifteen years ago)

i watched that video recently and it blew my mind, b/c i was expecting him to look like andy gibb and not an also-ran from a starbuck tribute band

dell (del), Tuesday, 31 May 2011 19:25 (fifteen years ago)

also, i went to middle school with someone who wore those kinds of shirts exclusively, like i guess he had a gift certificate from merry-go-round or something

Despite the collapse of his solo career, Wilder continued his career in the music industry as a songwriter and as a record producer for such acts as No Doubt (the hit album Tragic Kingdom), 702, Christina Aguilera, Kelly Clarkson, Miley Cyrus on her Hannah Montana song "G.N.O. (Girls Night Out)", The Belle Brigade, King Charles, Joanna Pacitti and many others.

dell (del), Tuesday, 31 May 2011 20:13 (fifteen years ago)

Yeah I was just about to look that up because I remembered him being a big producer. I think he was one before that song too or something.
