i love this show so much
― Midworst (jjjusten), Thursday, 26 May 2011 16:46 (fifteen years ago)
The swivel killed. Should've gone on longer.
Nah, this show knows when to stop.
― 百万个叉烧包 (Autumn Almanac), Thursday, 26 May 2011 21:04 (fifteen years ago)
Oh, totally. I think it was great as it is, but I'm a sucker for bits that go on too long; they start funny, become tedious, and then somehow become hilarious (cf. Steve Martin making coffee in Dead Men Don't Wear Plaid).
― shake it, shake it, sugary pee (Tarfumes The Escape Goat), Friday, 27 May 2011 14:37 (fifteen years ago)
Family Guy likes that trick.
― Wacky Way Lounge (Evan), Friday, 27 May 2011 14:43 (fifteen years ago)
Yeah, but they can never pull it off. Oh, Conway Twitty for three minutes? Fuck you, write some shit.
― shake it, shake it, sugary pee (Tarfumes The Escape Goat), Friday, 27 May 2011 14:49 (fifteen years ago)
Totally, but they have pulled it off in better days. The peter falling and holding his leg "ffffffffffffff AAAHHHH" bit was hugely popular.
― Wacky Way Lounge (Evan), Friday, 27 May 2011 15:05 (fifteen years ago)
True, that was a good one. And I always liked Stewie's "You mean that book you're writing?" run.
― shake it, shake it, sugary pee (Tarfumes The Escape Goat), Friday, 27 May 2011 15:44 (fifteen years ago)
Please stop talking about Family Guy in a P&R thread
― President Keyes, Friday, 27 May 2011 15:52 (fifteen years ago)
Say, this reminds me of the time Ron Swanson met Perry King and Gerald McRaney at the Mustache Convention.
― Pleasant Plains, Friday, 27 May 2011 15:59 (fifteen years ago)
Truth. It's tainting the thread. TAINT.
― Jeff, Friday, 27 May 2011 16:17 (fifteen years ago)
"Bird is the Word" was the worst example of Family Guy stretching one joke too far iirc.
Last night we found a P&R episode we hadn't watched! The S2 one where Leslie takes a load of Ron's predecessors out for a picnic and photo. I always love it when Leslie gets angry and stands up for herself (surely there's more than a bit of Poehler in those moments).
― 百万个叉烧包 (Autumn Almanac), Friday, 27 May 2011 21:26 (fifteen years ago)
no wonder us twee corny indie fuXors love this show so much ...
― I-95 Phuck Phace (Eisbaer), Friday, 27 May 2011 21:33 (fifteen years ago)
Willa Paskin classified the show as a “comedy of niceness.”
ha yes absolutely. In fact I thought they'd even make a decision to write Gerry into the group but the final episode pretty much destroyed that.
The 'twee' accusation is otm (not so much this writer's moan that it's no longer political enough) but I reckon this is the sort of show that would either shrug off such epithets or wear them as a badge of honour. One of the best things about P&R is its confidence about what it is.
― 百万个叉烧包 (Autumn Almanac), Friday, 27 May 2011 21:39 (fifteen years ago)
sorry to talk about Family Guy again, but this is probably the best "stretched-out joke" they've done:

― The Brainwasher, Friday, 27 May 2011 21:45 (fifteen years ago)
Yeah that was pretty good. On the whole it's fun in FG but I'm REALLY glad P&R doesn't do that.
― 百万个叉烧包 (Autumn Almanac), Friday, 27 May 2011 21:46 (fifteen years ago)
this sentence makes me want to stab the author in the face repeatedly:
"Parks and Rec" presents a provincial utopia of philosoraptor-kings in which there are never competing legitimate interests, never hard choices, and never any need to engage in political maneuvering.

I had to quit following Barthel on tumblr because he habitually sucks the fun out of EVERYTHING.

think ppl need to stop using the phrase manic pixie dream girl
― just sayin, Friday, 27 May 2011 21:58 (fifteen years ago)
Intellectualising the political strength of this show is a dick move imo.
― 百万个叉烧包 (Autumn Almanac), Friday, 27 May 2011 22:03 (fifteen years ago)
It would be like claiming 30 Rock doesn't accurately reflect the trial and tribulations of showrunning a US sketch comedy.
It really is.
― Johnny Fever, Friday, 27 May 2011 22:03 (fifteen years ago)
ugh yeah it's that whole dancing to architecture thing.
― Janet Snakehole (VegemiteGrrl), Friday, 27 May 2011 22:18 (fifteen years ago)
there was some bullshit article on salon.com last year about how P&R was a brilliant depiction of small town american life. Bros be over-thinking shit.
― Matt Armstrong, Friday, 27 May 2011 22:34 (fifteen years ago)
funny people doing & saying funny shit. the end.
― Janet Snakehole (VegemiteGrrl), Friday, 27 May 2011 22:52 (fifteen years ago)
I can't tell what streched out family guy joke was posted (because I'm on my phone) but there was a great one recently. Peter introduced the clip as "the gayest music video ever" and then Mick Jagger and David Bowie performed 'Dancing in the Streets'
― Muttley vs. Mumbly (CaptainLorax), Friday, 27 May 2011 23:35 (fifteen years ago)
the entire damn video!!
― Nhex, Friday, 27 May 2011 23:38 (fifteen years ago)
Did they really play the entire video? Because I knew Family Guy was lazy, but that's a new low.
― Johnny Fever, Friday, 27 May 2011 23:40 (fifteen years ago)
Yeah they did. I'm a defender of latter-day Family Guy but that was definitely a low-point.
― The Brainwasher, Friday, 27 May 2011 23:42 (fifteen years ago)
