bradlee dean has been a "TPM star" for a little while. i think they caught wind of him during some bachmann bs a year or so ago (or maybe the recount?) and now they cover him! so it was a little weird to hear of him in like real media since he's never been mentioned there before, haha.
and north, yeah, damn.

Can I just vent about this for a second here?
The state's Legacy Amendment that uses a 3/8ths of 1 percent sales tax to raise hundreds of millions of dollars for the outdoors and the arts was passed in 2008, but now some groups would like to see it repealed.
"I think the voters were hoodwinked," said Andy Cilek, president of the Minnesota Voters Alliance, which is joining forces with the North Star Tea Party Patriots and the Northern Liberty Alliance on a repeal campaign. "Most people didn't even know it was a tax," he said, and were misled into believing they were simply voting to support programs for the outdoors and the arts.
Most people didn't even know it was a tax?! The actual wording on the referendum here:
"Shall the Minnesota Constitution be amended to dedicate funding to protect our drinking water sources; to protect, enhance, and restore our wetlands, prairies, forests, and fish, game, and wildlife habitat; to preserve our arts and cultural heritage; to support our parks and trails; and to protect, enhance, and restore our lakes, rivers, streams, and groundwater by increasing the sales and use tax rate beginning July 1, 2009, by three-eighths of one percent on taxable sales until the year 2034?"
How stupid are you, exactly?

Maybe they thought 3/8ths of one percent of the existing tax was getting reallocated from health clinics for freeloaders to useful things, like stocking lakes with sport fish.

attn vahid: http://www.gmap-pedometer.com/?r=4550104
roughly sketched, obv, but it starts/ends at the birchwood cafe (which is delicious), includes the greenway, lakes calhoun harriet and nokomis (sorta), minnehaha falls, and the might mississippi
the part from harriet to minnehaha can be a little tricky w/r/t route-finding (the trail is sorta discontinuous), but it's mostly intuitive if you study the route ahead of time. also there are great city bike maps at any bike shop (there's one right on the greenway, too...they serve waffles! yum!)
