That's cool, definitely wouldn't want him to leave as he's one of my favorite characters.

kinda feel like Tom/Jean-Ralphio are gradually tipping toward Entourage levels of "wait am i watching a knowing satire of douchebags or am i just watching douchebags?"

some dude, Saturday, 21 May 2011 16:13 (fifteen years ago)

my sister feels that way about tom but i just love aziz ansari's big round face and shoutiness to really find him douchey.

horseshoe, Saturday, 21 May 2011 16:15 (fifteen years ago)

i also wish andy was my friend and like him more than some of my irl friends

horseshoe, Saturday, 21 May 2011 16:15 (fifteen years ago)

jean ralphio is a great character. better than tom but i wouldnt want him as a regular. andy is my absolute fave "leslie i searched your synonyms on the computer. looks like you have... internet connectivity problems"

i mean symptoms

ban drake (the rapper) (max), Saturday, 21 May 2011 16:20 (fifteen years ago)

Pretty sure Ben Schwartz is attached to that upcoming Sarah Michelle Gellar show on CW or another picked up pilot for the fall, so he probably won't be in every episode

Nhex, Saturday, 21 May 2011 16:21 (fifteen years ago)

he was the best thing on the terrible undercovers show too, besides the hot girl

ban drake (the rapper) (max), Saturday, 21 May 2011 16:21 (fifteen years ago)

aaagh seriously i wanted to scratch my eyes out whenever he came on screen on Undercovers

Nhex, Saturday, 21 May 2011 16:22 (fifteen years ago)

he's awesome on P&R though

Nhex, Saturday, 21 May 2011 16:22 (fifteen years ago)

omg there's a new sarah michelle gellar show

horseshoe, Saturday, 21 May 2011 16:23 (fifteen years ago)

oh wait, he's actually on House of Lies on Showtime. bodes well for P&R, since that's probably a shorter cable season.

Nhex, Saturday, 21 May 2011 16:24 (fifteen years ago)

you could've just said "omg smg" (xpost)

some dude, Saturday, 21 May 2011 16:24 (fifteen years ago)

its on the cw and in it she takes over the identity of her rich dead twin sister while on the run from the mob

ban drake (the rapper) (max), Saturday, 21 May 2011 16:24 (fifteen years ago)

xp

horseshoe, Saturday, 21 May 2011 16:24 (fifteen years ago)

This show didn't really grab me in s1. When did it get so much better?? I've watched about 7 eps from this season and they've been great. "Fancy Party" was fantastic. Haven't seen the most recent though.

EveningStar (Sund4r), Saturday, 21 May 2011 16:33 (fifteen years ago)

season 2 of p & r is really good imo

horseshoe, Saturday, 21 May 2011 16:35 (fifteen years ago)

This show didn't really grab me in s1. When did it get so much better??

Pretty much the moment they stopped writing Leslie Knope as Michael Scott II and/or dropped The Pit as a major plot point. Sooo...an episode or two into Season 2.

Johnny Fever, Saturday, 21 May 2011 16:53 (fifteen years ago)

I think I realized part of the reason I like this show so much is that it reminds me of the Simpsons.

Jeff, Saturday, 21 May 2011 16:53 (fifteen years ago)

Mainly because of all the hilarious secondary characters, Perd, the guy from Sewage, the douche, Detlef Schrempf. They all fit in nicely into the wacky town.

Jeff, Saturday, 21 May 2011 16:56 (fifteen years ago)

And of course john ralphio.

Jeff, Saturday, 21 May 2011 16:57 (fifteen years ago)

Yeah, Pawnee = Springfield is an idea I can get behind.

Johnny Fever, Saturday, 21 May 2011 16:58 (fifteen years ago)

kinda feel like Tom/Jean-Ralphio are gradually tipping toward Entourage levels of "wait am i watching a knowing satire of douchebags or am i just watching douchebags?"

This is crazy! Writers of Entourage are in love with their douchebag characters. Parks + Rec writers clearly think Jean Ralphio is a fool (as expressed through always correct Ron Swanson's lips).

Mordy, Saturday, 21 May 2011 17:14 (fifteen years ago)

Other major improvements: splitting up Ann and Andy (implausible couple) and dropping Mark (boring character) from the cast.

Moodles, Saturday, 21 May 2011 17:19 (fifteen years ago)

The Pit was great if only for the sight gag of Andy emerging from it while chewing on a carrot.

polyphonic, Saturday, 21 May 2011 17:21 (fifteen years ago)

I don't find Ann and Andy completely implausible, but I am glad the show split them up (because April and Andy is WAY more lolsy and Ann...well, Ann is funny in some situations).

Still not sure that Leslie and Ben actually needs to be at thing this show does, though they've done it in such a way that it doesn't seem forced. Applauding them for that, I guess. I AM looking forward to what happens should Leslie begin campaigning for something and what that spells for Ben.

Johnny Fever, Saturday, 21 May 2011 17:34 (fifteen years ago)

Andy and Ann make a lot more sense when you read their character history; they started dating in college and she grew up while he... didn't

I HAVE ISSUES (DJP), Saturday, 21 May 2011 17:54 (fifteen years ago)

Love that it was Ron who had to endure the Thatcher-Reagan role playing butt-call.

President Keyes, Saturday, 21 May 2011 18:11 (fifteen years ago)

Also, that he kept listening longer than they expected he would have.

Johnny Fever, Saturday, 21 May 2011 18:13 (fifteen years ago)

They all fit in nicely into the wacky town.

Pawnee's growing so much and getting so complex that they could (and) should publish a spin-off encyclopaedia. They're clearly having loads of fun revealing (i.e. inventing) new rooms and characters in city hall, regional events, hero horses, adjacent towns &c.

Most shows are well into their groove by the end of s3 but it feels like Parks & Rec could go another 2-3 years before it hits its peak. If they know what they're doing and the keep the balance intact it could go for 10 years and not get stale. If this post makes no sense it's because I just woke up.

ah fuck.

Entertainment 720 is going to be a big arc early next season, according to Michael Schur.

Yay!

the man who forsook his wife for fap fap fap (sic), Saturday, 21 May 2011 23:33 (fifteen years ago)

Am I crazy? I just watched this twice and didn't see any Ron swivel chair bit. Was that from the episode prior???

Wacky Way Lounge (Evan), Sunday, 22 May 2011 00:37 (fifteen years ago)

yep

百万个叉烧包 (Autumn Almanac), Sunday, 22 May 2011 00:37 (fifteen years ago)

Oops, never mind.

Wacky Way Lounge (Evan), Sunday, 22 May 2011 00:38 (fifteen years ago)

Due to a variety of things I JUST now got around to watching the last two episodes. I love this show soooo much. My favorite part, beyond the Ron swivel chair, was Haverford's laugh and reaction to the "CUBE BUTT" thing.

'what are you, the Hymen Protection League of America?' (jon /via/ chi 2.0), Thursday, 26 May 2011 14:38 (fifteen years ago)

The swivel killed. Should've gone on longer.

shake it, shake it, sugary pee (Tarfumes The Escape Goat), Thursday, 26 May 2011 15:10 (fifteen years ago)

Doing a rewatch of s2 and the lady jogging around Ron (I still get giggles thinking of that visual, and her making sun tea out of sprinkler water) was the same lady in "Sweetums" who's eaten muffins and lasagna every day. I love that lady.

trippin lookin at my portfolio (billy), Thursday, 26 May 2011 15:15 (fifteen years ago)

bad paraphrase alert but "you put up a sign that said 'don't drink this water' so I made some tea with it and got really sick" lolz forever

Tom Skerritt Mustache Ride (DJP), Thursday, 26 May 2011 15:32 (fifteen years ago)

i love this show so much

Midworst (jjjusten), Thursday, 26 May 2011 16:46 (fifteen years ago)

The swivel killed. Should've gone on longer.

Nah, this show knows when to stop.

百万个叉烧包 (Autumn Almanac), Thursday, 26 May 2011 21:04 (fifteen years ago)

Oh, totally. I think it was great as it is, but I'm a sucker for bits that go on too long; they start funny, become tedious, and then somehow become hilarious (cf. Steve Martin making coffee in Dead Men Don't Wear Plaid).

shake it, shake it, sugary pee (Tarfumes The Escape Goat), Friday, 27 May 2011 14:37 (fifteen years ago)

Family Guy likes that trick.

Wacky Way Lounge (Evan), Friday, 27 May 2011 14:43 (fifteen years ago)

Yeah, but they can never pull it off. Oh, Conway Twitty for three minutes? Fuck you, write some shit.

shake it, shake it, sugary pee (Tarfumes The Escape Goat), Friday, 27 May 2011 14:49 (fifteen years ago)

Totally, but they have pulled it off in better days. The peter falling and holding his leg "ffffffffffffff AAAHHHH" bit was hugely popular.

Wacky Way Lounge (Evan), Friday, 27 May 2011 15:05 (fifteen years ago)

True, that was a good one. And I always liked Stewie's "You mean that book you're writing?" run.

shake it, shake it, sugary pee (Tarfumes The Escape Goat), Friday, 27 May 2011 15:44 (fifteen years ago)

Please stop talking about Family Guy in a P&R thread

President Keyes, Friday, 27 May 2011 15:52 (fifteen years ago)

Say, this reminds me of the time Ron Swanson met Perry King and Gerald McRaney at the Mustache Convention.

Pleasant Plains, Friday, 27 May 2011 15:59 (fifteen years ago)

Please stop talking about Family Guy in a P&R thread

Truth. It's tainting the thread. TAINT.
