MACCARINELLI VS HAYE. BIGGEST UK FIGHT FOR A DECADE. WHO WILL WIN: GAZ TOP ON STEROIDS OR A BOYZ II MEN BODYGUARD CIRCA 1994?
― Dom Passantino, Friday, 7 March 2008 10:54 (eighteen years ago)
Tough call, I'm going with Haye inside 8. There's no way I think it'll go the distance.
TYSON VS HOLYFIELD III - WILL THIS BE A BIGGER FARCE THAN MAYWEATHER VS BIG SHOW?
(and who will make the most money?)
― onimo, Friday, 7 March 2008 14:51 (eighteen years ago)
If they made Tyson/Holyfield a play-off for the right to fight the winner of Mayweather/Show, I'd buy a ticket.
I'm torn between Haye and Maccarinelli. I remember seeing Haye's debut fight when BBC2 used to have weekly schlub boxing contests on a Thursday night, I was basically "Wow, I fuck w/this dude". But Maccarinelli is good ol' boy as well. It's not going past eight rounds, it may well be over in two tbh.

What time does the actual fight start?
― Herman G. Neuname, Saturday, 8 March 2008 23:40 (eighteen years ago)
2am
― Dom Passantino, Saturday, 8 March 2008 23:41 (eighteen years ago)
Vasquez vs. Marquez III was great.
― wanko ergo sum, Saturday, 8 March 2008 23:43 (eighteen years ago)
Cheers Dom. Reckon I'll stay up for it.
― Herman G. Neuname, Saturday, 8 March 2008 23:50 (eighteen years ago)
from the bbc 0030: Best guess on fight time is somewhere between 0230 and 0300 but no-one is quite sure. One thing is for certain, the atmosphere at a packed O2 Arena is quite tasty. A full house of 14,000-odd fans and a few lagers have been had in the long wait for the main event. In case you were wondering, first bell is so late because of the US market. The plan is to launch both of these fighters as major world stars by exposing them to the money men across the Pond.

I reckon 3am - that's when Freeview customers are being told to switch from c34 to c38 if they've subscribed.
Drunk and tired but I think I'll make it.
Mitchell vs Johanneson was a great fight - excellent mix of styles. Mitchell did well to come back from a shaky couple of rounds and win but he gets caught far too often to convince me he's ever going to reach the top. Johanneson looked rock solid until that body shot early in the ninth took the wind out if him.

we're on now!
― onimo, Sunday, 9 March 2008 02:18 (eighteen years ago)
I don't know what way this fight will go.
― Herman G. Neuname, Sunday, 9 March 2008 02:21 (eighteen years ago)
Thats a bit harsh
― Herman G. Neuname, Sunday, 9 March 2008 02:32 (eighteen years ago)
Well that's that then.
I look forward to Haye vs Rahman, Haye vs David Tua, and Haye vs Danny Williams within the next year. Nothing big fighters at the top of their game for the Hayemaker.
― Dom Passantino, Sunday, 9 March 2008 12:06 (eighteen years ago)
He says he's going to take a few months out to get fat.

ANOTHER SATURDAY, ANOTHER AMIR FIGHT
― Dom Passantino, Saturday, 5 April 2008 20:29 (eighteen years ago)
Dece fight, soured only slightly by Khan playing tom-toms on the dude's head while he was trying to have a sit down.
― Noodle Vague, Saturday, 5 April 2008 21:44 (eighteen years ago)
So is this a pay-per-view fight ?
― Herman G. Neuname, Saturday, 19 April 2008 19:23 (eighteen years ago)
It's on Setanta Sports. Pay-per-view in the US I think.
I've put away too much wine. I'm switching to sipping beers in the hop of staying awake for the fight. Setant bloke says first bell's at 3am but that could well be after my last bell.
Loldley Harrison coming up, fighting a guy who's 10&6 in the hope of proving he's a title contender.
― onimo, Sunday, 20 April 2008 00:48 (eighteen years ago)
sipping beers in the hop
lol freudian typo
― onimo, Sunday, 20 April 2008 00:49 (eighteen years ago)
HBO in the US.
― govern yourself accordingly, Sunday, 20 April 2008 00:50 (eighteen years ago)
Loldley took 5 rounds to break his punchbag.
― onimo, Sunday, 20 April 2008 01:27 (eighteen years ago)
Some guff on screen about freeview people needing to switch channels before 3am so it may be PPV for them. Last trailer thing they showed has me stoked. I'm going for a tight (maybe even split) Calzaghe points win then bringing Hopkins back to a stupid big UK stadium to knock him out in a rematch.
I thought I was harsh on Audley until I saw McGuigan & Co. on Setanta getting wired into the poor guy. I think if he learned to tuck his chin in and maybe swapped some bulk for a bit of mobility/speed he'd have a shout. He never seems to throw those great combinations that won him the Olympics but he still has enough weapons to take out most of what passes for a top heavyweight division these days.
― onimo, Sunday, 20 April 2008 01:45 (eighteen years ago)
I've been lolling all week at Joe C trying to out trash-talk Bernard Hopkins. He can't get a word in and when he does it's always in the most unconvincingly tough accent ever. You can't say "this week the executioner will be executed" in that accent and expect to be taken seriously.
― onimo, Sunday, 20 April 2008 01:49 (eighteen years ago)
lol what is this fuckin gibberish comin outta tom jones' mouth
― cankles, Sunday, 20 April 2008 02:06 (eighteen years ago)
hahaha
― onimo, Sunday, 20 April 2008 02:08 (eighteen years ago)
Well, that didn't take long.
― govern yourself accordingly, Sunday, 20 April 2008 02:22 (eighteen years ago)
Can't see a way in for Calzaghe here. Hopkins' tactics spot on so far and his counter-punching is superb.
― onimo, Sunday, 20 April 2008 02:30 (eighteen years ago)
yup
― Herman G. Neuname, Sunday, 20 April 2008 02:31 (eighteen years ago)
Found his range a bit there but he needs to stay outside or he'll never claw back the points he's already lost.
― onimo, Sunday, 20 April 2008 02:34 (eighteen years ago)
shit ref
― Herman G. Neuname, Sunday, 20 April 2008 02:40 (eighteen years ago)
he keeps letting Hopkins use his head
― Herman G. Neuname, Sunday, 20 April 2008 02:41 (eighteen years ago)
Whatever the fuck Hopkins is doing now it isn't boxing. Nothing but diving in and holding and headbutting.
― onimo, Sunday, 20 April 2008 02:43 (eighteen years ago)
lol is this your first hopkins fight?
― cankles, Sunday, 20 April 2008 02:44 (eighteen years ago)
The point is the ref keeps letting him away with it.
― Herman G. Neuname, Sunday, 20 April 2008 02:45 (eighteen years ago)
Seriously what the fuck is this ref doing?
― Herman G. Neuname, Sunday, 20 April 2008 02:46 (eighteen years ago)
This the same ref that stopped Hatton doing exactly what Hopkins is doing?
Calzaghe needs to throw more or this is gone.
― onimo, Sunday, 20 April 2008 02:51 (eighteen years ago)
Hopkins will win.
This other dude is a sucker.
― Colin_C., Sunday, 20 April 2008 02:52 (eighteen years ago)
If he ups the workrate he has a chance x-post
― Herman G. Neuname, Sunday, 20 April 2008 02:52 (eighteen years ago)
Hopkins hasn't shown anything but his head since the 5th. He's just trying to suck the life out of the fight now, and it's working.
― onimo, Sunday, 20 April 2008 02:55 (eighteen years ago)
he's totally at it now
― Herman G. Neuname, Sunday, 20 April 2008 02:57 (eighteen years ago)
and funnily enough he looks totally fine
― Herman G. Neuname, Sunday, 20 April 2008 02:58 (eighteen years ago)
he just wanted a rest
Hopkins looks knackered
― Herman G. Neuname, Sunday, 20 April 2008 03:00 (eighteen years ago)
Hopkins rubbing his balls for 3 minutes did him the world of good, he's started fighting again :)
― onimo, Sunday, 20 April 2008 03:01 (eighteen years ago)
that break certainly benefited hopkins
― Herman G. Neuname, Sunday, 20 April 2008 03:03 (eighteen years ago)
He's a fuckin pussy and wants to stop crying and holding his nuts.
― onimo, Sunday, 20 April 2008 03:04 (eighteen years ago)
(I am a bit drunk)
Calzaghe was poor there but Hopkins ran away for 2/3 of the fight.
