This and the new version of Chang are s2's only weaknesses imo.

If this show is going to for seven years, it's going to need to somehow roll out the red carpet for my mom in the third season, without alienating the fans that we have who love nothing more than the unpredictable nature of the show, people I'm compulsively unable to betray because I'm one of them.

I haven't read any blog thinkpieces about this show. Like I said, I think s2 could be my favourite season of any TV show I've seen. I just think those two characters have grown weaker this season.

the idea of the Abed character frequently seems like it should be so lame and meta and tryhard but the actual execution of the writing and how Pudi's played it has so often been just amazing

nothing wrong with Pudi's performance at all, I just don't think it redeems the, as you say, lame meta-ness

i'm with some dude - it totally does! i mean that My Dinner With Andre episode basically redeemed him for the lifetime of the entire series

I even really like the idea of Abed's character, actually.

early in the show's run when Abed's whole participation in the show was just the occasional one liner addressed out beyond the 4th wall, i didn't care for him, but now he just kind of busts through the wall and sprints around the room in these increasingly entertaining ways.

Show's actually not bad, but not really amazing either. Kind of like season 4/5 Scrubs.

I didn't even notice Abed in the background until my husband texted me (he was watching elsewhere) with "Abed is on Cougar Town!!" I got the text about 7 seconds before the end of the scene. I am seriously unobservant.

Also, I like Cougar Town a lot more than I want to. Buck's sad/happy songs last night brought serious lolz.
