libary, Thursday, 20 October 2005 20:45 (twenty years ago)

awesome.

so thursday oct 27. time? place?

Aaron Grossman (aajjgg), Thursday, 20 October 2005 20:59 (twenty years ago)

Hey, I may be able to get there, my soon to be new job wants me to start the 26th, and I am going to try and do that & crash at a friend's until I find a place, and also this way I wouldn't have to miss a Halloween party in Baltimore next weekend.. Dudes, I am so thrilled, I am soon to stop being broke and unemployed and the salary isn't bad at all. hooray.

Ally that is hilarious. I am planning to frequently wear these boots of mine, uh, they are Kenneth Cole so acceptably generic urban footwear, but they really want to be combat boots and are great with black lacy tights. OHNOES, fashion goth, oops I did it again.

dar1a g (daria g), Thursday, 20 October 2005 23:38 (twenty years ago)

Aaron did you recently post up something on Craigslist about searching for a place?

dar1a g (daria g), Thursday, 20 October 2005 23:46 (twenty years ago)

petesmith (plsmith), Thursday, 20 October 2005 23:47 (twenty years ago)

carly (carly), Friday, 21 October 2005 00:08 (twenty years ago)

Place: P-bar ok with everyone?

Zack Richardson (teenagequiet), Friday, 21 October 2005 00:22 (twenty years ago)

allyson coco (schmanktenputchka), Friday, 21 October 2005 00:28 (twenty years ago)

petesmith (plsmith), Friday, 21 October 2005 00:39 (twenty years ago)

this thread has gotten abstract.

carly (carly), Friday, 21 October 2005 00:40 (twenty years ago)

the washington dc thread is the new chicago thread.

carly (carly), Friday, 21 October 2005 00:40 (twenty years ago)

Zack Richardson (teenagequiet), Friday, 21 October 2005 00:41 (twenty years ago)

Washington DC is the new Chicago

ng-unit, Friday, 21 October 2005 00:49 (twenty years ago)

I'm not twee, I'm watching making the band.

allyson coco (schmanktenputchka), Friday, 21 October 2005 00:56 (twenty years ago)

i posted with my friend, which is the link above, but if i dont hear any positive news from him tommorrow, i am going to post for myself. the market is so fucking tight! and expensive! i always look at my rent check and have an attack of synthesizer deficiency syndrome, or maybe vacation deficiency syndrome, or maybe dining table deficiency syndrome. i need an accountant.

Aaron Grossman (aajjgg), Friday, 21 October 2005 01:16 (twenty years ago)

I'm generally one paycheck away from dining deficiency syndrome.

But fuck that--P-bar Thursday it is.

Stephen X (Stephen X), Friday, 21 October 2005 01:25 (twenty years ago)

Where/what is P-bar?

Mary (Mary), Friday, 21 October 2005 01:27 (twenty years ago)

pharmacy bar on 18th st.

carly (carly), Friday, 21 October 2005 01:28 (twenty years ago)

i would be close to dining deficiency but i work at a restaurant.

Aaron Grossman (aajjgg), Friday, 21 October 2005 01:49 (twenty years ago)

Where is a good place to park around there? I have a parallel-parking deficiency.

Mary (Mary), Friday, 21 October 2005 01:59 (twenty years ago)

there isn't one, really. but maybe on a thursday it won't be too bad.

mookieproof (mookieproof), Friday, 21 October 2005 02:00 (twenty years ago)

if you can parallel park at all, california st. is the best place to look, east of 18th. and then behind the marie reed community center, there's some school zone parking that is kinda secret and reliable.

carly (carly), Friday, 21 October 2005 02:02 (twenty years ago)

you can also take the 42 bus to the top of 18th and columbia and walk a block or two

Zack Richardson (teenagequiet), Friday, 21 October 2005 02:15 (twenty years ago)

the 42 bus rules!

carly (carly), Friday, 21 October 2005 03:05 (twenty years ago)

Dear Fairfax County,
Fuck You and Your H2

dar1a g (daria g), Friday, 21 October 2005 04:10 (twenty years ago)

Pharmacy Bar, can we meet earlier than 9 though?

Allyzay knows a little German (allyzay), Friday, 21 October 2005 12:32 (twenty years ago)

hey guys, has anyone else noticed how much the subject of the city paper cover story this week (Daniel Hudson, Ballou Senior High Administrator) looks like Sonny Sharrock?

petesmith (plsmith), Friday, 21 October 2005 12:34 (twenty years ago)

Is an earlier-ish meet up out of the question? Because I, like, turn into a pumpkin at about 10:30. I R lame, I know.

xpost to OH YEAH ally

quincie, Friday, 21 October 2005 12:34 (twenty years ago)

i feel like ive seen pics where SS looks even MORE like that dude, too.

petesmith (plsmith), Friday, 21 October 2005 12:34 (twenty years ago)

we could go right after work, or we could maybe go to crooked beat and have a group nerd session, then run across the street whenever everyone wants to arrive...

petesmith (plsmith), Friday, 21 October 2005 12:35 (twenty years ago)

yeah, i was going to make a snarky comment about dc being a happy hour town and 9 being late, but then i realized i was 1) a jerk, 2) not involved in the planning of this. speaking of not being involved in the planning of this, you arlington people should totally carpool! you live in the same apartment complex, afterall.

carly (carly), Friday, 21 October 2005 12:38 (twenty years ago)

another excellent DC thing: http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/linkset/2005/03/24/LI2005032402809.html

carly (carly), Friday, 21 October 2005 12:41 (twenty years ago)

I would probably just be leaving work, grabbing dinner and heading over to Pharmacy, personally, which would put me there around 7 or 7:30!

Allyzay knows a little German (allyzay), Friday, 21 October 2005 12:44 (twenty years ago)

earlier is fine by me - 7:30 or around then?

Zack Richardson (teenagequiet), Friday, 21 October 2005 12:46 (twenty years ago)

7:30 works for me. I figured I'd just metro but then I realized that this is my golden opportunity to check out the 90-something bus! Yes, I am too easily excited.

quincie, Friday, 21 October 2005 12:55 (twenty years ago)

the 90 something buses btween capitol hill and the ellington bridge also rule. once the driver on one of these buses physically shoved this jerk off the bus. intense.

carly (carly), Friday, 21 October 2005 13:00 (twenty years ago)

Haaaa that's great. I spend too much time on the placid Red line and not enough on DC buses!

quincie, Friday, 21 October 2005 13:10 (twenty years ago)

DC buses are awesome, I always take them over the metro if I can. Back in 99, I used to take one of the Georgia Avenue lines.. one day there was a guy ranting and raving the whole way from Mt Vernon Square to Petworth about how he was going to kill somebody and women were the f**king devil. Around where New Hampshire meets Georgia Ave the (female) bus driver threw his ass off. Not one person on the bus seemed perturbed by this in the least or to even notice. I was trying to look like I wasn't freaking out.. not being used to the buses back then..

dar1a g (daria g), Friday, 21 October 2005 15:41 (twenty years ago)

730 it is then?

Aaron Grossman (aajjgg), Friday, 21 October 2005 16:33 (twenty years ago)

7:30 is looking good.

Bus question: does anyone actual read and plan around the bus timetables, or do you just show up at the stop whenever and hang out until the bus does or does not show up?

quincie, Friday, 21 October 2005 17:21 (twenty years ago)

I don't personally use the bus but my boss does and they seem to work like clockwork, he has the schedule down pat and never has an issue.

Allyzay knows a little German (allyzay), Friday, 21 October 2005 17:22 (twenty years ago)

i do the latter, but i would try to know the schedules better if i took the bus more often - the rail is way faster from where i live to work...

petesmith (plsmith), Friday, 21 October 2005 17:22 (twenty years ago)

in my experience (with the 52/53/54 bus) the timetables mean nothing. they're supposed to come every 7 minutes or something; usually you'll get three in a row every 15 minutes.

did you see the in the post yesterday that the taxi authority is "experimenting" with metered cabs?

mookieproof (mookieproof), Friday, 21 October 2005 17:37 (twenty years ago)

I thought they already did that and canned it and that's why they have the zone system because, surprise, gypsy cabs try to screw people when they run on meter systems?

Allyzay knows a little German (allyzay), Friday, 21 October 2005 17:39 (twenty years ago)

anyway, unless you know exactly what the districts are and the fares are and the surcharges are, they'll screw you anyway. except when i lived in arlington, half the time the driver would be like "so how much do you usually pay?" because they didn't know either.

mookieproof (mookieproof), Friday, 21 October 2005 17:45 (twenty years ago)

1933??? Well that was not my understanding of the issue! I prefer the meter system anyway because I can be pretty sharp about watching to make sure I'm not getting shafted but the zones, I have no fucking clue on.

Allyzay knows a little German (allyzay), Friday, 21 October 2005 17:50 (twenty years ago)

Yeah, I saw that article--something about how short trips would no longer be very profitable, so cabbies may be unwilling to take quick fares?

I dunno, I've only taken a DC cab like twice.

quincie, Friday, 21 October 2005 17:51 (twenty years ago)

Mookie are you FAPing on Thursday???
