I totally support the idea (oft proposed, never implemented) to bar all traffic from downtown except taxis, mass transit, and commercial vehicles. I never drive to work.

Unfortunately my kids go to preschool downtown, and I can't spare an hour and a half to drop them off and pick them up from school...

there are lots of old ppl out in the Sunset/Richmond who are relatively ill-served by MUNI

tbf I think this is incredibly lame and it angers me to no end that the next giant MUNI train line being built is one that goes through Chinatown, rather than one that would replace THE MOST TRAVELLED BUS ROUTE IN THE COUNTRY (that's the 38 Geary fyi)

american thinker (Shakey Mo Collier), Wednesday, 11 May 2011 21:33 (fifteen years ago)

i'm going to be in SF in the middle of june. WHAT SHOULD I DO.

tylerw, Wednesday, 11 May 2011 21:34 (fifteen years ago)

The 38 is great but if you live blocks away from a line, MUNI offers far less service than it does where I live.

it angers me to no end that the next giant MUNI train line being built is one that goes through Chinatown

I thought the idea was to connect w/Caltrans wasn't it?

tylerw, I recommend warm clothing first of all. Looks like we're in for another Junuary absed on how it already is in May.

it connects CalTrain to Chinatown. basically a tourist line.

american thinker (Shakey Mo Collier), Wednesday, 11 May 2011 21:46 (fifteen years ago)

ha, well it's snowing in denver today, so sf will probably be an improvement next month. i hope, at least.

tylerw, Wednesday, 11 May 2011 21:48 (fifteen years ago)

And shoppers and business ppl and ppl trying get to the South Bay or, conversely, trying to get to the Giants...

I think the b46 in brooklyn has more?

but yeah the rest of this otm

iatee, Wednesday, 11 May 2011 22:01 (fifteen years ago)

I'm just going off what a coworker (former transit official, masters in urban transit etc) told me

american thinker (Shakey Mo Collier), Wednesday, 11 May 2011 22:07 (fifteen years ago)

b46 was 16,816,652 in 2009

38 geary had weekday numbers of 52,800 (all I can find) - which would be 19,272,000 if weekend numbers were the same as weekday. but they're gonna be much less. so I dunno. but regardless 16-17 mil people means a lot more in sf than nyc.

iatee, Wednesday, 11 May 2011 22:18 (fifteen years ago)

(^ annual ridership, I meant)

iatee, Wednesday, 11 May 2011 22:19 (fifteen years ago)

maybe he was referring to highest daily ridership? I dunno, I can ask if we really care lol

american thinker (Shakey Mo Collier), Wednesday, 11 May 2011 22:21 (fifteen years ago)

ask! not a sf-nyc pissing contest, I'd just be curious to see the #s

american thinker (Shakey Mo Collier), Wednesday, 11 May 2011 22:29 (fifteen years ago)

anyone been to Candlestick Point State Recreation Area? what's over there?

since they're closing this and 69 other parks come september, thought maybe i'd check it out first

jaxon, Friday, 13 May 2011 23:13 (fifteen years ago)

my dad was just there yesterday, oddly. I haven't been in a few years. it's big! pretty nice - rolling hills, wetlands. lots of birds to see, if yr into that kind of thing

american thinker (Shakey Mo Collier), Friday, 13 May 2011 23:22 (fifteen years ago)

How do Parks "close" btw?

the gates get locked

american thinker (Shakey Mo Collier), Friday, 13 May 2011 23:35 (fifteen years ago)

What about the bigger parks that don't have gates?

american thinker (Shakey Mo Collier), Friday, 13 May 2011 23:42 (fifteen years ago)

i guess what i'm getting at is are they going to replace park rangers with cops enforcing the closure of the parks rather than preserving them?

it's time for the fish in the perculator (Steve Shasta), Friday, 13 May 2011 23:44 (fifteen years ago)

cops are too expensive, outsource that shit!

american thinker (Shakey Mo Collier), Friday, 13 May 2011 23:53 (fifteen years ago)

i'm guessing they don't have people cleaning up shit or toilets cleaned? and gates locked. dunno

jaxon, Saturday, 14 May 2011 05:06 (fifteen years ago)

i ask mostly because i pass that area every day on the way to work down 101 and i've always been curious

jaxon, Saturday, 14 May 2011 05:06 (fifteen years ago)

seems like a vast toxic wasteland to me, had no idea it was a park

akm, Saturday, 14 May 2011 15:28 (fifteen years ago)

I'd be a lot more supportive of MUNI trains getting built all over the place if the trains themselves weren't so slow and unpleasant to ride above ground.

The confiscated mosaic tiles measure as small as 1-inch-by-1-inch, Suhr said. Many contain photographic negatives, inlaid behind glass. Others are drawings. Some were installed high above normal viewing levels.

"I think as an adult you look at these tiles and see possibly some sort of sexual connotation to them," said Commander Mike Biel, who declined to describe the offensive images in detail.

are we sure it's not kids scrawling penises on them

kinder, Friday, 24 June 2011 21:52 (fifteen years ago)

So far, no evidence suggests that children were harmed in the making of the murals.

this is the part I don't get... if they're photographic negatives, that would imply that he took the photos, which would imply that kids were harmed...? or am I missing something

winoa ryder sexes creatures of the night (Shakey Mo Collier), Friday, 24 June 2011 22:04 (fifteen years ago)

yeah, you're missing any information whatsoever about what the photos were of, other than that someone could potentially see a sexual connotation to them and they were "inappropriate". Whole thing is WTF but kind of a dumb report.

kinder, Friday, 24 June 2011 22:07 (fifteen years ago)

I assume they're all just pictures of his o-face or somethign
