There are no rebirths or do-overs. The world is not going to 'end'. If you are deluded enough to think otherwise, it is because you are fucking stupid enough to think the world revolves around you and others like you, and arrogant enough to believe that there is a supreme being that cares more about you and yours than any other of the 6.5 billion skinbags who also live here.

"God says, 'Do you love husband or wife over me? Do you love son or daughter over me?' There is a test. There is a trial here that the believers are going through. It's a fiery trial."
So why on Earth have you not renounced all your worldly possessions in favor of a life of helping the poor and advocating non-violence and Universal Christly Love? You really think renouncing your family and TV set in the final hours is going to fool an omnipresent and omniscient deity?

Some religious folk came to the door last night, i said i was busy and could they come back on the 22nd.
They said sure (without flinching) and walked away writing in a little notebook.

I wonder if he has factored the imminent end of the world into his insurance premium tables. (Haven't listened so apologies if this is in fact addressed)
I do wonder how people like this must feel when this stuff doesnt end up happening.
Was reading somewhere (probably a New Yorker/NYT article linked from ILX but I can't find it now) about end-of-world cults after the non-event, and instead of being embarrassed or disillusioned the members were very happy to go "well, it WOULD have ended, but thanks to the fervent prayers and message-spreading of our little group, God has seen that his chosen ones are active and spared the world for a while longer, so it's all very important we stay in this thing" etc

When July 5, 1998 arrived and no alien fleet appeared in the sky, members of the Church began citing a large number of conspiracy theories to explain why the predicted end of the world did not take place. The manual page of the ddate program claims that the Church "declared that it had got the year upside down" and that X-Day will actually take place in 8661. The most popular explanation for the failure of the prophecy in the Church is usually summarized with the statement, "the calendar is wrong and July 5th, 1998 has not really arrived yet." Because of this, the Church has held annual gatherings around July 5 of each year since 1998 to celebrate X-Day and greet the arrival of the anticipated alien "Sex Goddesses." No flying saucer rendezvous has been confirmed as of 2010, but members of the Church have been undaunted. A more recent theory suggests that the X-ists did indeed come to Earth on July 5, 1998 as foretold by "Bob," but through one of the most pervasive Conspiracy coverups, Earth and Mars were switched, and the "Earth" we know is actually Mars. And thus, as there was nobody on the True Earth at the time of their arrival, there was nobody there to witness the Rupture.http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/X-Day_%28Church_of_the_SubGenius%29

Knowing it's your final hour is the trick though innit? I once saw a sign outside a church that said "Those who think they can turn to God at the eleventh hour often die at half past nine"

Well, I'm sort of mystified as to why he has gotten so much attention in the first place. I'm pretty sure there wasn't this much attention paid to his prediction the first time around. I don't see how his methodology is any different from a whole slew of internet kooks who mess around with the bible and numerology and come up with similar dumbass predictions.
Also, it is mystifying to me that he has ANY followers whatsoever. If you've ever heard him on the radio he is soooooooo boring. It seems like most other similarly insufferable fundamentalist preachers at least have a little personality.
