― tehresa, Wednesday, 4 May 2011 16:18 (fifteen years ago)
that's awesome! hope u can recap it here.
― call all destroyer, Wednesday, 4 May 2011 16:56 (fifteen years ago)
aw groan
― socks & pwns may break my bwns (darraghmac), Wednesday, 4 May 2011 16:58 (fifteen years ago)
finally bought a bottle of that Bulleit Rye. tastes pretty nice, but it's kind of harsh. Good for the price.
― rockapads, Wednesday, 4 May 2011 17:30 (fifteen years ago)
I thought it was pretty smooth for a rye! Has an interesting mint finish.
Did I previously mention I got a bottle of Baker's for my birthday? I did, and it's great with a splash of water, and it has a weird cherry finish.
― mh, Wednesday, 4 May 2011 17:31 (fifteen years ago)
ooh i still need to try this.
― tehresa, Wednesday, 4 May 2011 17:51 (fifteen years ago)
on a visit to the parental home for my mother's birthday she had the good sense to bring out a postprandial bottle of 1993 Scapa (2006 bottling); delicious and still seemingly very affordable (about £45 or so).
― Bill A, Wednesday, 4 May 2011 18:04 (fifteen years ago)
Bulleit Rye is a lot more harsh than the Tuthilltown Hudson Manhattan Rye, but at a quarter of the price I'll gladly drink it with water.
― boots get knocked from here to czechoslovakier (milo z), Wednesday, 4 May 2011 18:29 (fifteen years ago)
maybe this manhattan rye I have not had is just wussy
― mh, Wednesday, 4 May 2011 18:38 (fifteen years ago)
i also picked up a bottle of bulleit rye this weekend. it's fine, but at twice the cost of overholt and approx $10 more than rittenhouse, it's not gonna become my standard. nice flavor i suppose but maybe a bit weak?
― one dis leads to another (ian), Wednesday, 4 May 2011 19:36 (fifteen years ago)
it's at one store in my area and they've marked it up north of 40 bucks. so yeah not trying soon unless maybe i spot it at a bar.
― call all destroyer, Wednesday, 4 May 2011 20:10 (fifteen years ago)
40 bucks? wtf, I think it's $28 here. Like I said, hoping it's at Costco for $20!
― mh, Wednesday, 4 May 2011 20:12 (fifteen years ago)
i am going to have to stop by the store downstairs on my way home to see if they're carrying it because this curiosity is killing me.
― tehresa, Wednesday, 4 May 2011 20:18 (fifteen years ago)
bulleit bourbon's pretty rye-y anyway
― just sayin, Wednesday, 4 May 2011 20:23 (fifteen years ago)
very true
― mh, Wednesday, 4 May 2011 20:23 (fifteen years ago)
My new drink is Green Chartreuse, Manhattan Rye Whiskey, Sweet Vermouth, and Simple Syrup with a orange peel. Not sure what to call it, but it taste like heaven. Any other ideas for rye cocktails?
― JacobSanders, Wednesday, 4 May 2011 20:27 (fifteen years ago)
Sounds a lot like a sazerac
― mh, Wednesday, 4 May 2011 20:33 (fifteen years ago)
sazerac doesn't have the vermouth, right? i can not make myself like things w/ simple syrup lately :(
― tehresa, Wednesday, 4 May 2011 20:34 (fifteen years ago)
i think 'a lot' is a bit of a stretch xp
― just sayin, Wednesday, 4 May 2011 20:36 (fifteen years ago)
It's similar to the sazerac which I have never heard of. I should invest in a bottle of Peychaud's Bitters.
― JacobSanders, Wednesday, 4 May 2011 20:38 (fifteen years ago)
people sub chartreuse in for absinthe in a sazerac, so minus the vermouth...
― mh, Wednesday, 4 May 2011 20:40 (fifteen years ago)
yeah you're right i guess it all depends on the proportions, it could be v similar
― just sayin, Wednesday, 4 May 2011 20:43 (fifteen years ago)
it sounds like a bijou which is gin/green chartreuse/sweet vermouth

Tempted to get a bottle of Balcones Baby Blue this weekend - first product out from a distillery in Waco.http://www.balconesdistilling.com/babyblue
But it's sort of expensive ($35/750, I think) and 'baby blue' corn whiskey screams harsh to me.
― boots get knocked from here to czechoslovakier (milo z), Wednesday, 4 May 2011 22:48 (fifteen years ago)
do you know how long they're aging it for?
― call all destroyer, Wednesday, 4 May 2011 22:53 (fifteen years ago)
4 months, IIRC
― boots get knocked from here to czechoslovakier (milo z), Wednesday, 4 May 2011 23:09 (fifteen years ago)
yikes!
― call all destroyer, Wednesday, 4 May 2011 23:20 (fifteen years ago)
i'm sure it will be interesting but only you know whether you can spend 35 bucks on interesting
― call all destroyer, Wednesday, 4 May 2011 23:21 (fifteen years ago)
Yeah, I'm just bullshitting, I've heard manhattan rye is good
― mh, Thursday, 5 May 2011 03:53 (fifteen years ago)

I made some mint simple syrup for ready-made juleps a year or two back
got way wasted by the time my friends left, then a second wave of friends showed up. good times.
― mh, Thursday, 5 May 2011 04:34 (fifteen years ago)
guy downstairs said he forgot to order it but would have it on tuesday...
eagle rare on sale at my neighborhood abc.
good week for whiskey? i'm celebrating derby tonight w/ the eagle rare since i have to work tomorrow night.
― tehresa, Saturday, 7 May 2011 01:00 (fifteen years ago)
shit, i had a bunch of leftover mint a while back and forgot to make a syrup, then i went out of town and came back to yuck :(
hahah i celebrated the end of the work week (and nice enough weather to sit on the back porch) earlier today with an eagle rare julep.
― call all destroyer, Saturday, 7 May 2011 01:10 (fifteen years ago)
nice!
― tehresa, Saturday, 7 May 2011 01:11 (fifteen years ago)

― dmr, Saturday, 7 May 2011 01:54 (fifteen years ago)

― one dis leads to another (ian), Saturday, 7 May 2011 01:59 (fifteen years ago)
haven't had it in ages! it's so smooth!
i wouldn't mind a *little* more depth to it, though.
xpost

Eagle Rare 10-year isn't my favorite bourbon but I love it dearly
― I DIED, Saturday, 7 May 2011 02:53 (fifteen years ago)
it's a v. good mixing bourbon and a decent sipper imo.
― call all destroyer, Saturday, 7 May 2011 02:58 (fifteen years ago)
I picked up a bottle of the Rogue Dead Guy whiskey tonight. Haven't cracked it open yet, though. Anyone had it?

― dmr, Saturday, 14 May 2011 00:00 (fifteen years ago)
I have recently been drinking bourbon and soda. Nice warm-weather drink.
― something of an astrological coup (tipsy mothra), Saturday, 14 May 2011 00:05 (fifteen years ago)
a shot of maker's mark in a pint glass filled with ice and then topped up with soda water is delicious on a hot afternoon.

make it two shots and i'm in.
