it's so blatant esp. if you pause just two seconds in

Let me help you with your URL problems (blueski), Wednesday, 4 May 2011 12:49 (fifteen years ago)

Just realised that my son is having his first communion thing at 12 o'clock on Sunday, the same time Wolves-Albion kicks off on the telly. Fucking rats' cocks.

according to man like OptaJoe this is the table if all the shots that hit the woodwork this season went in

puppetry of the pulis (DJ Mencap), Thursday, 5 May 2011 11:50 (fifteen years ago)

I can't see that but would like one for wrongly disallowed/allowed goals.

Matt DC, Thursday, 5 May 2011 11:54 (fifteen years ago)

also one if Liverpool had played well all year

Ismael Klata, Thursday, 5 May 2011 11:54 (fifteen years ago)

tsk it's showing up for me but here tis http://twitpic.com/4t9shh

puppetry of the pulis (DJ Mencap), Thursday, 5 May 2011 11:56 (fifteen years ago)

Bottom three is very interesting.

Matt DC, Thursday, 5 May 2011 11:58 (fifteen years ago)

srsly?!?!?! train van persie into a couple more inches worth of precision next year and arsenal are gonna walk this.

Antoine Bugleboy (Merdeyeux), Thursday, 5 May 2011 11:59 (fifteen years ago)

That's the sort of parallel universe where they'd have beaten Newcastle 9-4 or something though.

Reckon this is Man United's last title for a while though, what with VDS retiring, especially if they go through a series of Roy Carroll-type losers in order to find a replacement.

Matt DC, Thursday, 5 May 2011 12:13 (fifteen years ago)

Can OptaJoe now provide us with a history of the World Cup if all England's penalty misses had gone in?

Matt DC, Thursday, 5 May 2011 12:16 (fifteen years ago)

so Arsenal have hit the woodword 21 times and had their woodwork hit twice.

Antoine Bugleboy (Merdeyeux), Thursday, 5 May 2011 12:17 (fifteen years ago)

k.

iirc England would have won all World Cups if not for something.

Antoine Bugleboy (Merdeyeux), Thursday, 5 May 2011 12:17 (fifteen years ago)

of course, they have as good a chance as any going in after all

socks & pwns may break my bwns (darraghmac), Thursday, 5 May 2011 12:20 (fifteen years ago)

Maybe a Premiership table if every Pavlyuchenko and Crouch effort that went into the upper stand had gone in?

Matt DC, Thursday, 5 May 2011 12:20 (fifteen years ago)

spurs under jol without robinson, jenas, zokora would be good.

socks & pwns may break my bwns (darraghmac), Thursday, 5 May 2011 12:20 (fifteen years ago)

― Ismael Klata, Thursday, 5 May 2011 12:54 (16 minutes ago)

Dalglish's record extrapolated over 35 games would have Liverpool 2nd with 70 points.

territory of the magic wand (Chris), Thursday, 5 May 2011 12:21 (fifteen years ago)

where will ye finish next year if dalglish stays d'you think?

socks & pwns may break my bwns (darraghmac), Thursday, 5 May 2011 12:23 (fifteen years ago)

And do ye ken John Peel?

Tom D has taken many months to run this thread to ground (Tom D.), Thursday, 5 May 2011 12:24 (fifteen years ago)

I enjoy hearing this every year

Number None, Thursday, 5 May 2011 12:31 (fifteen years ago)

Yeah but a United team with that kind of defensive record + an inferior goalkeeper is probably not one that's going to retain the title.

Matt DC, Thursday, 5 May 2011 12:32 (fifteen years ago)

No idea what's going to happen next season. I thought he'd give us a lift, but I didn't think he'd do this well. It's been great.

territory of the magic wand (Chris), Thursday, 5 May 2011 12:33 (fifteen years ago)

I don't think Van der Sar is all that anyway, Siralex might even rustle up an even better keepr

Tom D has taken many months to run this thread to ground (Tom D.), Thursday, 5 May 2011 12:38 (fifteen years ago)

I don't think they're going to skimp on VDS's replacement from the sound of things and Smalling and the Da Silvas will be more experienced next year. It wouldn't be wise to rely on Rio too much anymore but when he's fit him and Vidic are still up there with the best defensive partnerships around.

Number None, Thursday, 5 May 2011 12:38 (fifteen years ago)

that defence has kept vds from having to do too much all season tbh

Spurs have the summer ahead of them to do everything that should have been done last summer & jan, i have little confidence tbh

Lfc and city prob start next season as faves to get cl ahead of us, that's before stars like bentley and crouch leave for top clubs

socks & pwns may break my bwns (darraghmac), Thursday, 5 May 2011 12:41 (fifteen years ago)

Dalglish's record extrapolated over 35 games would have Liverpool 2nd with 70 points

Wow, and the thing is they've had some really good results and been playing well latterly, but there's been a fair few stinkers in there too. I'd love them to build up some momentum from day one next year.

Also wow - only two draws in that 'what if' table. So almost every draw this season's been two points robbed? (or else lucky to escape with a point, take your pick)

Ismael Klata, Thursday, 5 May 2011 13:54 (fifteen years ago)

tsk it's showing up for me but here tis http://twitpic.com/4t9shh

I'm all for making the goals slightly bigger if it relegates Birmingham.

abbottabadass (onimo), Thursday, 5 May 2011 22:12 (fifteen years ago)

VDS is so overrated, won't make a blind bit of difference. He's barely a top four keeper. Pretty much whoever they get will prob be better.

Phelan Nulty (Local Garda), Thursday, 5 May 2011 22:29 (fifteen years ago)

like genuinely have you ever heard anyone talk about VDS winning Man U a game in the way Schmeicel used to...it never happens, and he fucks up plenty too, just made to look great by such a magnificent defence.

Phelan Nulty (Local Garda), Thursday, 5 May 2011 22:30 (fifteen years ago)

ah i dunno does he fuck up that often tbh, he's a solid goalie that makes better saves than most.

socks & pwns may break my bwns (darraghmac), Thursday, 5 May 2011 22:32 (fifteen years ago)

he does make mistakes, there are several better keepers than him in the prem. plus my second point stands too, you never ever hear of people saying he had one of those brick wall in front of the goal stormers that really top keepers have.

Phelan Nulty (Local Garda), Thursday, 5 May 2011 22:51 (fifteen years ago)

VDS doesn't have to make a lot of saves but when he does he's usually decent. He certainly doesn't "fuck up plenty". There's no outstanding attribute to his game but he's just really solid all round. He's excellent with the ball at his feet as well and has very good distribution.

Number None, Thursday, 5 May 2011 22:55 (fifteen years ago)

He certainly doesn't "fuck up plenty".

I think part of the difference between a good side and a really good side is that with a good side, the keeper shines by making a lot of saves, with a really good side, the defense prevents the other side from even making them and the keeper shines by parrying the one or two SOG but also by being good at distribution.

Concatenated without abruption (Michael White), Thursday, 5 May 2011 22:59 (fifteen years ago)

I think VDS's mistake against West Brom this season was notable precisely because he doesn't make many mistakes

Number None, Thursday, 5 May 2011 23:05 (fifteen years ago)

terrible man for the challops

eid orb (nakhchivan), Thursday, 5 May 2011 23:15 (fifteen years ago)

uhm

eid orb (nakhchivan), Thursday, 5 May 2011 23:16 (fifteen years ago)

he's had an unusually mistake light season or so but he has made plenty of mistakes prior to that, plus as I say, he offers little resistance in goal. it's not just challops, vds has always made mistakes, from way before he played for man u, and never been top class. i wouldn't be panicking if i was a man u supporter, his retirement is no watershed.

Phelan Nulty (Local Garda), Thursday, 5 May 2011 23:23 (fifteen years ago)

that is to say at the same time as i'm being accused of challops i'm also saying i don't think vds retiring means it's the end of man u dominance...so read into it as you will.

Phelan Nulty (Local Garda), Thursday, 5 May 2011 23:24 (fifteen years ago)

afaik he played for ajax, juventus and y'nahtid over a fifteen yr period in which all of them were european champions while playing about 50000 times for holland yet 'barely a top four keeper'

eid orb (nakhchivan), Thursday, 5 May 2011 23:27 (fifteen years ago)

arteta is a beast tho

eid orb (nakhchivan), Thursday, 5 May 2011 23:35 (fifteen years ago)

no way would steven reid get in that birmingham team ahead of him

eid orb (nakhchivan), Thursday, 5 May 2011 23:35 (fifteen years ago)

mind u ive been saying for years, they havend had a proper fullback since ruel fox moved to newcastle

eid orb (nakhchivan), Thursday, 5 May 2011 23:36 (fifteen years ago)

gerrards had it imo, you can see his hearts not in it

eid orb (nakhchivan), Thursday, 5 May 2011 23:36 (fifteen years ago)

its not even a question of resources its a question of fat

eid orb (nakhchivan), Thursday, 5 May 2011 23:36 (fifteen years ago)

its all about getting the wingbacks pushed forward so sandro can get into that deeplying midfield role and make it his own

eid orb (nakhchivan), Thursday, 5 May 2011 23:38 (fifteen years ago)

armand traore never had the nous for it mind
