I guess Sturridge too, although that's more because he was never given the chance to actually play before this season

Nasri should have scored there.
― EZ Snappin, Sunday, 24 April 2011 16:29 (fifteen years ago)
Needed a little more finesse there
Every other year Bobby Z's the most improved player, breaking his leg this year is just him resetting the clock.
― Ismael Klata, Sunday, 24 April 2011 16:30 (fifteen years ago)
Arshavin coming on to give the side some urgency.
― James Mitchell, Sunday, 24 April 2011 16:31 (fifteen years ago)
when arsenal build up a head of steam they're a sight to behold.

Djourou, along with BAE, would win the award for most improved player of the season for me. Of course this award is more a mix of player I haven't noticed 'cos they don't play for LFC and player I mistakenly wrote off as crap who turns out not to be now that I'm paying attention.

Johan played 1 game last season due to injury. He wasn't crap - he just wasn't able to play.
― popular gay automobile (a hoy hoy), Sunday, 24 April 2011 16:32 (fifteen years ago)
thing is, re BAE, that even though he's improved brilliantly on the ball, tracking and defending, he's still liable to drop us right in say every 120 mins.
Even the frequency of his disasters has dropped though, to be fair to him.

with djourou I was thinking about all the games previous to this season tbh. He was young though tbf to him.

KARMA
― what?...it's a penalty...piss off (pandemic), Sunday, 24 April 2011 16:38 (fifteen years ago)
Ok but I've never really seen him have a bad* game at centre half before, well, today. He was absolutely gash filling in at right back for a while, that could be when you formed your opinion.
*not the same as always being great, obv.
― popular gay automobile (a hoy hoy), Sunday, 24 April 2011 16:40 (fifteen years ago)

"ONLY TILL ARSENAL BUY DEFENDERS WHO CAN DEFEND ARSENAL AND NOT EVER CONCEDE ARSENAL WILL NEVER WIN ANYTHING"
Only 3 clubs have conceded less this season, a whole 2 goals less than United. All done with our equivilant of Vidic or Terry injured all season. But you know, DEFENDERS WHO CAN DEFEND.

Ah, now the commentator saying that we should have kept Gallas, the Gallas commentators said we needed to replace last season and has been part of a defence that has conceded more than us this season.

Of course no mention of the fact that Kevin Davies has had 3 yellow card worthy fouls and Taylor should have been sent off in the first half. But DEFENDERS WHO CAN DEFEND.
― popular gay automobile (a hoy hoy), Sunday, 24 April 2011 16:56 (fifteen years ago)
To do an Andy Gray for a second and pretend I know what players are thinking I don't believe that Cesc thinks this Arsenal team are going to win anything next season.
― what?...it's a penalty...piss off (pandemic), Sunday, 24 April 2011 16:58 (fifteen years ago)
xpthe 0-0s at home were the really damaging results and they had nothing to do with the defense.
― what?...it's a penalty...piss off (pandemic), Sunday, 24 April 2011 16:59 (fifteen years ago)
A guess at the score from reading today's thread: one-all.
― Ismael Klata, Sunday, 24 April 2011 16:59 (fifteen years ago)
Basically, fuck commentators.
Like I understand that our defending can be a lot better from set pieces but the rhetoric these cunts pore out without actually thinking for themselves is ridiculous.
"With millions in the bank, he should go and buy a proper back line", ok fuck you you cunts. What millions? The ones we are spending on a stadium and paying wages? We aren't Man fucking City prepared to get in ridiculous debt. A Man City that have only conceded 1 less goal than us. But I guess they have DEFENDERS WHO CAN DEFEND.

Nah, not the way he is currently playing. It is still months away though, a lot can change*.
*Of course one thing that won't change is where Cesc is playing next season, considering how much debt Barca are in.

Okay I've criticized wenger in the past but this is madness
From Dan from London, via text: "Not being funny but any other manager would've been sacked by now. I think Arsene is a good manager but surely enough is enough? Look at what happened with Mark Hughes, and Roy Hodgson. Six years without a trophy is not exactly confidence boosting, for players, managers or fans."
Hughes! Hodgson! Fucking hell.

circa the carling cup final arsenal had conceded 52% of their goals to set pieces but don't know how many that is.
