What a day!

territory of the magic wand (Chris), Saturday, 23 April 2011 15:47 (fifteen years ago)

Lucas Leiva player of the season without a doubt. To put in performances like this with half the fans on his back and a bunch of ex-players blaming every poor result on him is remarkable. Great to see him finally getting the recognition he deserves. Such an intelligent player, great reader of the game, makes some ridiculous interceptions, great tackler, hardly ever gives the ball away, team player, great attitude, top guy. Absolutely love him.

territory of the magic wand (Chris), Saturday, 23 April 2011 15:49 (fifteen years ago)

Ohh Wigan

Ismael Klata, Saturday, 23 April 2011 15:49 (fifteen years ago)

not sure I can deal w/ the europa league.

ogmor, Saturday, 23 April 2011 16:04 (fifteen years ago)

It would've made for a grand end to this season I reckon.

Ismael Klata, Saturday, 23 April 2011 16:09 (fifteen years ago)

I don't know how much revenue the Europa Lge brings in. Obviously I want us to finish as well as possible to give the players confidence etc but I'd just as soon start next season with everything geared towards one league match every week with no European shenanigans in between.

what?...it's a penalty...piss off (pandemic), Saturday, 23 April 2011 16:27 (fifteen years ago)

On Football Weekly this week they say Spurs made five million in Europe last season and 36 million this season.

James Mitchell, Saturday, 23 April 2011 16:29 (fifteen years ago)

hurrah blackpool remove their dipping toe from the relegation waters. As long as Chelsea beat West Ham, i'm sure.

Fernando Torres ends a run of 903 minutes without a goal (all comps for Liverpool/Spain/Chelsea) by scoring v West Ham. Patience."

popular gay automobile (a hoy hoy), Saturday, 23 April 2011 18:23 (fifteen years ago)

never thought I'd see the day

Ismael Klata, Saturday, 23 April 2011 18:23 (fifteen years ago)

Chief football writer Phil McNulty at Stamford Bridge "The waiting is over - and how Stamford Bridge has greeted that goal from Fernando Torres. Torres himself was overjoyed but almost as significant was the reaction of his Chelsea team-mates, who mobbed him with genuine pleasure. Good to see, unless you are of a West Ham persuasion."

Some other race (nakhchivan), Saturday, 23 April 2011 18:24 (fifteen years ago)

lol now villa has just scored for the first time in 11 games

Some other race (nakhchivan), Saturday, 23 April 2011 18:25 (fifteen years ago)

many viewers will have been reminded of the phrase 'it never rains but it scores' in refernce to the much decorated iberian goleadors who will have been delighten to see their barren runs end

Some other race (nakhchivan), Saturday, 23 April 2011 18:26 (fifteen years ago)

A ball straight down the middle from Anelka. Torres clear into the box. He must score. He shifts it right - and the ball holds up in some standing water! It looks like he's been robbed in the cruellest circumstances, but he simply - brilliantly - checks back, turns and hits an unstoppable effort into the top-left corner

minute-by-minute makes it sound like quite a moment

Ismael Klata, Saturday, 23 April 2011 18:26 (fifteen years ago)

lol, that /was/ supposed to be 'pours' xp

unintentional nultisms are the best

Some other race (nakhchivan), Saturday, 23 April 2011 18:28 (fifteen years ago)

MichaelTGrant on Twitter: "As a Liverpool fan I was gutted with Torres' departure but was happy to see him score. Hope Chelsea can overtake Man Utd now."

Some other race (nakhchivan), Saturday, 23 April 2011 18:35 (fifteen years ago)

Omg it's transferable

Must admit I thought Redknapp's sarcy comments on MOTD last night were a tad Hodgson-esque.

territory of the magic wand (Chris), Sunday, 24 April 2011 13:52 (fifteen years ago)

I was thinking that watching MOTD last night. He really doesn't think the Spurs fans(board?) are anything like grateful enough for all his achievements. Seems to feel v underappreciated.

what?...it's a penalty...piss off (pandemic), Sunday, 24 April 2011 14:06 (fifteen years ago)

Football fans in grumbling when the team keeps dropping annoying points shocker.

Matt DC, Sunday, 24 April 2011 14:23 (fifteen years ago)

It's also worth bearing in mind that Spurs fans acutely fear that failing to qualify -> best players get sold -> another slide into mediocrity. Can't say I disagree with them.

Matt DC, Sunday, 24 April 2011 14:26 (fifteen years ago)

Wilshere running the show thus far. If Cesc gets his act together Arsenal should win this.

what?...it's a penalty...piss off (pandemic), Sunday, 24 April 2011 15:15 (fifteen years ago)

Going back to the Spurs/Redknapp thing I guess if you're being harsh you could say Harry has done one place better than Jol, and he got sacked when he regressed from there. Harry seems to act like he should be bullet proof.

what?...it's a penalty...piss off (pandemic), Sunday, 24 April 2011 15:18 (fifteen years ago)

Fuck that was a horrible challange. Studs up like 2 feet in the air = only a yellow, supposedly.

popular gay automobile (a hoy hoy), Sunday, 24 April 2011 15:22 (fifteen years ago)

I can't tell if Harry is overachieving or underachieving in this league, considering everyone around is a bit rub.

popular gay automobile (a hoy hoy), Sunday, 24 April 2011 15:23 (fifteen years ago)

Lee thinks he's playing for the stereotype of Arsenal and isn't allowed to shoot.

what?...it's a penalty...piss off (pandemic), Sunday, 24 April 2011 15:26 (fifteen years ago)

Bolton thugging it up a little bit today. Don't know if that's a reaction to last week or 'cos it's Arsenal.

what?...it's a penalty...piss off (pandemic), Sunday, 24 April 2011 15:28 (fifteen years ago)

Sturridge doing a job, must be on the look out for a summer move to one of the big clubs.

James Mitchell, Sunday, 24 April 2011 15:29 (fifteen years ago)

How many games has Feo missed this year? He's looked v good last few games I've seen given that I'd kinda forgotten about him.

what?...it's a penalty...piss off (pandemic), Sunday, 24 April 2011 15:30 (fifteen years ago)

He looked v. good for the first half of the season too, and then was out from December to early March.

If you combined Bolton w/ Utd, you'd have a beast of a team.

popular gay automobile (a hoy hoy), Sunday, 24 April 2011 15:32 (fifteen years ago)

Feo's made 16 PL starts and eight sub appearances so far this season. His biggest season yet.

James Mitchell, Sunday, 24 April 2011 15:33 (fifteen years ago)

lol

James Mitchell, Sunday, 24 April 2011 15:39 (fifteen years ago)

Good save Chesney! Chelsea could have saved themselves £50 million

what?...it's a penalty...piss off (pandemic), Sunday, 24 April 2011 15:39 (fifteen years ago)

lolz arsenal at set pieces. never complained about that before.

sturridge is p much the best english centre forward going atm, fuck a rooney.

popular gay automobile (a hoy hoy), Sunday, 24 April 2011 15:41 (fifteen years ago)

Feo has really improved the last couple of years I think, especially as he's missed quite a bit of time. I would have expected him to regress a bit given he was out for 3 months as you say, instead he's picked up where he left off.

what?...it's a penalty...piss off (pandemic), Sunday, 24 April 2011 15:42 (fifteen years ago)

I think you'll find Rooney is an attacking midfielder/right back

Number None, Sunday, 24 April 2011 15:43 (fifteen years ago)

http://i51.tinypic.com/261yam1.jpg

link in football journo thread has taught me that rooney's eyes are evil.

popular gay automobile (a hoy hoy), Sunday, 24 April 2011 15:46 (fifteen years ago)

1642: How long until Daniel Sturridge gets his first England call-up? It can't be long...

Good ol' Paul Robinson

popular gay automobile (a hoy hoy), Sunday, 24 April 2011 15:49 (fifteen years ago)

I've always thought his eyes are his best feature

Number None, Sunday, 24 April 2011 15:49 (fifteen years ago)

I like that he has evil eyes. I get uncomfortable when Utd have players I actually like. Park Ji Sung and Hernandez are two too many.
Oh God Merson and Allardyce in the studio.
xp

what?...it's a penalty...piss off (pandemic), Sunday, 24 April 2011 15:50 (fifteen years ago)

Rooney looks like Michael Stipe in that picture IMO.

4, 5, 6, The monkey's got a hockey stick (aldo), Sunday, 24 April 2011 15:51 (fifteen years ago)

The left side looks like Andy Zaltzman.

James Mitchell, Sunday, 24 April 2011 15:52 (fifteen years ago)

If we lose, Utd can win the league at the Emirates.

See? Arsenal are bringing trophies home.

James Mitchell, Sunday, 24 April 2011 15:59 (fifteen years ago)

If we lose, Utd can win the league at the Emirates

Only if Chelsea are somehow wiped out of existence.

in a wonderful balloon! (Nasty, Brutish & Short), Sunday, 24 April 2011 16:00 (fifteen years ago)

daniel sturridge is killing arsenal

lee really should have this game put to bed by now

territory of the magic wand (Chris), Sunday, 24 April 2011 16:03 (fifteen years ago)

hadn't seen arry's comments, but he's underperformed in the league this year and shouldn't be complaining if fans are unhappy.

there's hardly a groundswell of support for sacking him, so he's probably just having a grumble.

every manager between fergie and dalglish could prob be sacked in the summer without having too much complaint imo tho.

i've got blingees on my fisters (darraghmac), Sunday, 24 April 2011 16:04 (fifteen years ago)

Lee is awesome. If Spurs sell Bale or Modric, he'd be a perfect cheap replacement.
