~~buying vibrams~~

jeff, Thursday, 21 April 2011 22:17 (fifteen years ago)

Interesting. What do you run in currently?

Jeff, Thursday, 21 April 2011 23:31 (fifteen years ago)

something similar to this:

http://www.moon-boots.com/es/images/l/nike_dart-7-junior_grau-schwarz_gray-black.jpg

cheap nikes, basically. definitely plan to take it easy with the vibrams for a little bit until i get used to them. got these:

http://www.csneaker.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/06/21/VIBRAM-FIVEFINGER-Five-finger-bikila-shoe.jpg

in fact, maybe i will go for a short run right now.

jeff, Friday, 22 April 2011 00:00 (fifteen years ago)

52:03 for a 10K race today, unofficially. Not bad for a race I was supposed to take it easy in.

Jeff, Saturday, 23 April 2011 16:53 (fifteen years ago)

So hard to take it easy in a race when you're feeling good.

Jeff, Saturday, 23 April 2011 16:53 (fifteen years ago)

ran my first decent run in the vibrams today -- 6.6mi, 8:50min/mi. first time i've cracked 9min/mi. gonna be sore tomorrow i bet.

jeff, Monday, 25 April 2011 01:50 (fifteen years ago)

I keep forgetting that I'm supposed to run a marathon in a week.

Jeff, Saturday, 30 April 2011 04:22 (fifteen years ago)

ran 4 miles today, mostly back from injury now i just need to build my fitness back up. summery heat really saps the strength too but my pace was great today and i got some serious endorphin rushes!

Will.Have.Known (Local Garda), Tuesday, 3 May 2011 11:48 (fifteen years ago)

Welcome back!

In did two runs while I was in Florida that were horrible. Too hot and I was sick. Had to stop every half mile to catch my breath and blow massive snot rockets.

Marathon in 4 days.

Jeff, Tuesday, 3 May 2011 12:22 (fifteen years ago)

yeah a friend of mine did the berlin half marathon and got hospitalised with dehydration, he collapsed after the finish. kinda scary, he woke up barely knowing his name or where he was etc.

not worried about that really but having began running about last september, heat is a whole new thing for me. mostly it's great as no jacket etc and no snot freezing to my face etc!

good luck with the mara, i had to miss that berlin half cos of doing a play but hope to do my first half marathon this summer instead.

Will.Have.Known (Local Garda), Tuesday, 3 May 2011 12:24 (fifteen years ago)

although I think I'm ready for this full, I'm excited to try and run another half. I think that's a distance I can really attack as opposed to just trying to survive.

Jeff, Tuesday, 3 May 2011 13:17 (fifteen years ago)

hey, so does anyone know how to get pee smell out of running shoes? it appears that one of the many puddles i splashed through was not 100% rainwater :-/

what i've tried so far: soap, bleach

haven't sent them through the washer, but i'm afraid it won't do anything

still steady joggin btw -- 3x a week, like clockwork. feeling pretty slow lately, but also VERY TIRED.

deez m'uts (La Lechera), Tuesday, 3 May 2011 19:39 (fifteen years ago)

Stuffits maybe? http://www.stuffitts.com/

I use them to dry my shoes out. Makes them smell like cedar.

Jeff, Tuesday, 3 May 2011 19:58 (fifteen years ago)

a quick sniff test indicates that it's on the exterior of the shoe -- would this still help?

deez m'uts (La Lechera), Tuesday, 3 May 2011 20:03 (fifteen years ago)

Not sure, but the only thing I can think of.

Jeff, Tuesday, 3 May 2011 20:14 (fifteen years ago)

Other options:

1. Don't smell your shoes.
2. Buy new shoes.

Jeff, Tuesday, 3 May 2011 20:14 (fifteen years ago)

i know, i'm disgusting. maybe it's time for new shoes anyway. they're almost 2 years old.

deez m'uts (La Lechera), Tuesday, 3 May 2011 20:22 (fifteen years ago)

got nike frees

ow ow ow

cozeny mubarak (cozen), Tuesday, 3 May 2011 21:19 (fifteen years ago)

do you all think about your gait much, or are there any good online resources about this? i've kinda changed mine to try and avoid injury, worked my stride into what i reckon is a more balanced one that puts less pressure on my ankles, and it seems to be working. but like...is it a golf swing kind of thing that you can work on a lot?

Will.Have.Known (Local Garda), Tuesday, 3 May 2011 21:29 (fifteen years ago)

A lot. I'll post more later when I'm not on my phone.

Jeff, Tuesday, 3 May 2011 21:36 (fifteen years ago)

Thinking about gait/mechanics is how I pass the time on runs tbh

cop a cute abdomen (gbx), Tuesday, 3 May 2011 22:33 (fifteen years ago)

^so otm

that is all i think about for the first two hours and then after that, just wondering about food or water. i've actually had a hard time later. switched to vibrams at the same time that i went on antibiotics and the weather got incredibly hot, so i have been dying later. really not enjoying running, which is a shame.

jeff, Wednesday, 4 May 2011 01:48 (fifteen years ago)

Marathon morning!

Jeff, Saturday, 7 May 2011 10:34 (fifteen years ago)

Goooooooooo Jeff!

deez m'uts (La Lechera), Saturday, 7 May 2011 14:50 (fifteen years ago)

Good luck!!!

tehresa, Saturday, 7 May 2011 15:18 (fifteen years ago)

4:30ish. About and hour and 10 mins faster than my first marathon. These things are hard.

Jeff, Saturday, 7 May 2011 19:49 (fifteen years ago)

nice!

the girl from spirea x (f. hazel), Saturday, 7 May 2011 20:41 (fifteen years ago)

awesome. congrats, dude.

jeff, Saturday, 7 May 2011 20:42 (fifteen years ago)

That's brilliant work. Well done!

scotstvo, Saturday, 7 May 2011 23:05 (fifteen years ago)

dude fucking awesome congrats!!! i gotta get running a lot more than i'm doing currently, i've got a few 60k races in my sights for fall O_O

ilxor, I know you sometimes feel like ilx revolves around you (ilxor), Sunday, 8 May 2011 04:00 (fifteen years ago)

Thanks all. It was a pretty good race. I was on 4:22 pace, but then mile 22 happened. Oof. I don't know if I will do another one anytime soon. I say that now, but at the back of your mind you always think you can go faster.

Jeff, Sunday, 8 May 2011 13:58 (fifteen years ago)

My recovery time for this race is going to be so much better. After Chicago, I couldn't run for a month.

Jeff, Monday, 9 May 2011 13:58 (fifteen years ago)

Yeah, recovery speeds up a lot once you've run a few. The first time I couldn't run at all for a week, after the last one I did I was out jogging the next day.

Lidl Monsters (seandalai), Monday, 9 May 2011 14:26 (fifteen years ago)

I'm still not going to run for a week, just to be safe, but I am going to go to the gym today for some gentle spinning.

Jeff, Monday, 9 May 2011 15:01 (fifteen years ago)

I need to come up with a short training plan, I have a 10 mile race in 3 weeks. This is actually the race that injured me last year and started my 10+ months of ITBS hell.

Jeff, Monday, 9 May 2011 15:03 (fifteen years ago)

Who is running? Please tell me about it, I want to live vicariously through you for the next week. I'm not getting back out there until Saturday at the earliest.

Jeff, Tuesday, 10 May 2011 15:50 (fifteen years ago)

every time i run the pollen makes me choke :(

tehresa, Tuesday, 10 May 2011 15:57 (fifteen years ago)

i can't run :(

jeff, Tuesday, 10 May 2011 17:13 (fifteen years ago)

what happen?

tehresa, Tuesday, 10 May 2011 17:33 (fifteen years ago)

lazy doctor gave me meds that have nausea, shortness of breath and tendonitis as side effects. managed to deal with running through the first two issues, but for the past week, my legs are in complete pain. i wake up in the middle of the night and my legs are throbbing. going off the meds and seeing a new doctor, but i'm really bummed. i had saved the next two weeks for some big runs and i don't think that is going to happen.

jeff, Tuesday, 10 May 2011 17:57 (fifteen years ago)

I just put my Gatorade G2 in the freezer so it will still be cold when I finish this afternoon's run. By six when I head out, it should be overcast with stifling humidity, about 88-90 degrees. Going to attempt five miles at a 10-minute pace. Will probably lose about four pounds just from sweating.

the girl from spirea x (f. hazel), Tuesday, 10 May 2011 18:05 (fifteen years ago)

tbh i have not been satisfied with most of the running i've done since i moved here. i know i need to suck it up but i just hate this environment! that one great day at great falls a few months ago was probably the best i've done, but nothing like how i felt on the other coast :(

tehresa, Tuesday, 10 May 2011 19:36 (fifteen years ago)

just ran 4.3 miles in about 45 mins, with a stop to do some stretches. felt great after a really ott weekend of partying.

Phelan Nulty (Local Garda), Wednesday, 11 May 2011 11:10 (fifteen years ago)

Training for a trail half-marathon on June 5. Having been doing a weekly 10-miler mixed with 3-4 mile runs in between for past month or so. Will do a full 13 next week then take it easy until race day. Shooting for 8:20 pace on race day finishing in one piece is a bigger priority. Heel spur is painful but icing it every night helps alot. Pollen in DC is almost more bothersome - snot rockets galore!

Jeff, Thursday, 12 May 2011 14:09 (fifteen years ago)

new doc confirmed that the antibiotics were misprescribed and i am off them. legs feel much better, but i am still going to wait a little bit before i head back out. maybe still time for a 20+ next week??

jeff, Thursday, 12 May 2011 18:05 (fifteen years ago)

setting myself the target of a 40 minute 10k

~gulp~

LDDDDLWLDDLDLWDYLL? a small club (cozen), Thursday, 12 May 2011 18:22 (fifteen years ago)

there's always time for a 20+ any week. so much fun. i have 10 weeks to go until 60k race series starts. gonna do runs of 24, 24, 26, 26 the next eight weeks (every two weeks = long). and then kick some ass on 60k races.

Aerosol, Thursday, 12 May 2011 18:27 (fifteen years ago)

I need to get back to bettering my time in these short distances.

Hey lowercase jeff, I'm going to be in LA sunday through Tuesday. Where can I run? Looks like I'll be a couple miles from Elysian park. Good place to run?
