Treat another manager like what? By shaking his hand? Admittedly my stream turned over as they shook, maybe something happened after?

League far from over, United still have to play both Arsenal and Chelsea, that could be the six points right there.

in a wonderful balloon! (Nasty, Brutish & Short), Wednesday, 20 April 2011 20:47 (fifteen years ago)

Chelsea 6 wins 2 draws in last 8 games I think. If they do it Carlo's eyebrow will be higher than his hairline!

ohh Milan vs Palermo on. Are Palermo any good?

what?...it's a penalty...piss off (pandemic), Wednesday, 20 April 2011 20:49 (fifteen years ago)

Would be typical of Arsenal if they end up finishing third, 2007/08 all over again.

in a wonderful balloon! (Nasty, Brutish & Short), Wednesday, 20 April 2011 20:49 (fifteen years ago)

gomes would definitely have saved that and nasri's goal if they'd been onside imo

Palermo have great players but I dunno, maybe Dommy P-support has cursed them into being eternally rubbish.

popular gay automobile (a hoy hoy), Wednesday, 20 April 2011 20:50 (fifteen years ago)

Milan/Palermo about 1/3 of the speed of Spurs/Arsenal. Then again Seedorf and Pirlo both playing so..

torres to go the rest of the season without scoring and chelsea to win the league.

Chelsea highlights Terry just played the kind of cross field ball I'd previously assumed Pete W was lying about. Wonderful ball great goal.

its like you've never been on a normal football chatroom or forum or watched motd or something

popular gay automobile (a hoy hoy), Wednesday, 20 April 2011 21:07 (fifteen years ago)

i think it's valid to be disappointed with 2nd when you see who's first and know that you've badly underperformed like chelsea have in the middle of the season

i've got blingees on my fisters (darraghmac), Wednesday, 20 April 2011 21:09 (fifteen years ago)

my bad - don't understand why anyone would be disappointed with third, I meant to say

Ismael Klata, Wednesday, 20 April 2011 21:10 (fifteen years ago)

If I'd spent £500mn on a football club, I'd be pretty disappointed with third.

James Mitchell, Wednesday, 20 April 2011 21:12 (fifteen years ago)

every one of the top 6 has badly underformed.

Seriously.

Best league in the world

Number None, Wednesday, 20 April 2011 21:14 (fifteen years ago)

United haven't imo - they're not that good and are if anything playing above themselves most of the season. Not many teams properly punching their weight either: Bolton, WBA, arguably Fulham.

Ismael Klata, Wednesday, 20 April 2011 21:17 (fifteen years ago)

How have Utd played above themselves with that away record?

Number None, Wednesday, 20 April 2011 21:19 (fifteen years ago)

i'm just gonna rewatch that tbh.

Vdv goal so good.

Did crouch do anything right all game?

i've got blingees on my fisters (darraghmac), Wednesday, 20 April 2011 23:40 (fifteen years ago)

to say that gomes should be saving the nasri shot is insanity imo. He's not even had a look at it.

i've got blingees on my fisters (darraghmac), Wednesday, 20 April 2011 23:43 (fifteen years ago)

Terrific game last night, thoroughly enjoyed it, Modric running tings right now, BAE was on some Berbatov shit last night, that sort of nonchalance looks amazing if you can get away with it and awful if you don't. Thudd is well off the pace, should be starting with Sandro.

Still, if we play like that we'll beat City and Liverpool and give Chelsea a game. Chesney is a cunt, why wasn't he sent off?

Matt DC, Thursday, 21 April 2011 07:55 (fifteen years ago)

Would've been nice to see a defender in the box for the Walcott goal, mind. And nice of VDV to turn up for the first time in three months.

Matt DC, Thursday, 21 April 2011 07:59 (fifteen years ago)

when? Lennon was going nowhere tbh.

Count yourself lucky it wasnt utd, lennon would prob have been booked.

Agree about thudd, but man what a fuckin strike. Vdv was terrified he'd be called offside after it goin through his legs.

i've got blingees on my fisters (darraghmac), Thursday, 21 April 2011 08:04 (fifteen years ago)

Tottenham looked a different, better team after Sandro came on for the last 15 minutes.

the pinefox, Thursday, 21 April 2011 08:16 (fifteen years ago)

balanced against the lack of balance kaboul brought

Though i do like kaboul, possibly more in midfield or at right back than as a centre half, where he gives me endless palpitations.

I think sandro will start next season as a first choice, he's had a nice slow introduction at this stage which seems to have worked.

i've got blingees on my fisters (darraghmac), Thursday, 21 April 2011 08:30 (fifteen years ago)

Yeah I can see Sandro and Walker being starting XI next season. I feel that Modric has to get stuck in a bit more when there isn't a Sandro or Palacios there, and while he's good at it, that hampers him creatively.

Matt DC, Thursday, 21 April 2011 08:34 (fifteen years ago)

Aston Villa manager Gerard Houllier has been admitted to hospital, the BBC understands.

James Mitchell, Thursday, 21 April 2011 08:41 (fifteen years ago)

Just heard that on the radio, although they were also saying he was in a comfortable condition, so maybe a precautionary thing?

Matt DC, Thursday, 21 April 2011 08:42 (fifteen years ago)

just read it, he's being kept in for a couple of days but seems to be okay

A Zed and Two Nults (Noodle Vague), Thursday, 21 April 2011 08:44 (fifteen years ago)

Maybe his eyes have boggled out of his head?

James Mitchell, Thursday, 21 April 2011 08:44 (fifteen years ago)

guilty lol

i've got blingees on my fisters (darraghmac), Thursday, 21 April 2011 08:56 (fifteen years ago)

I thought Kaboul did well, actually, getting stuck in and barnstorming down the right.

The problem - well, there were a lot of problems:

lack of strategy, composure
hoofing it up to big man (though angled balls not just route one)
acres of space in defence - not sure why as the defenders didn't play poorly, on the whole
Gallas error and marking problems for A's 3rd goal
Pav so blunt he made Crouch look dangerous
Crouch not dangerous
in general: no reliable striking power anynore
Lennon on left, when he came on, not ideal
Hudd and Modric asked to do too much in midfield - this was perhaps key and why Sandro improved things so much
Gomes unreliable though one or two saves

Sandro having tightened up the team even went through on goal, what a player he looked.

VdV best game since December or so.
Modric also excellent, heroic taking the ball and hurrying it into dangerous areas.

I guess the club has reached a point where the strikers are no longer worthy of the midfielders and wingers.

the pinefox, Thursday, 21 April 2011 09:05 (fifteen years ago)

pa / agree about BAE's composure, nonchalance under pressure; sounds dangerous but seemed to work last night, though I think his marking was at fault for 3rd goal

the pinefox, Thursday, 21 April 2011 09:07 (fifteen years ago)

the defenders had fine games individually, but i think closer inspection would definitely highlight that their movement and marking in the first half in particular made chances easy for arsenal to come by.

Lennon is probably as useful on the left as on the right, for me. His running pace is somewhat blunted but his delivery and decision making seems to improve when facing goal on his right foot.

Completely agree that the strikeforce is now probably the major concern, though another fit centre half the calibre of king or woodgate would make a big difference too.

i've got blingees on my fisters (darraghmac), Thursday, 21 April 2011 09:14 (fifteen years ago)

I thought Lennon played well when he came on actually, it's difficult when we're playing both him and Bale because everything tends to go through Bale as the better player.

I guess the club has reached a point where the strikers are no longer worthy of the midfielders and wingers.

This is exactly the problem - our defence can be dodgy but is generally okay, the problem all season has been that we just haven't scored enough goals. I'm trying to work out how good a Rodallega or Gyan would be as the lone striker at the top of that team, although I still live in a fantasy world where we end up buying Berbatov back.

Matt DC, Thursday, 21 April 2011 09:19 (fifteen years ago)

pav for lone striker the rest of the season, i still believe......

Crouch last night, do we now just accept that he's just completely without purpose or am i blinkered?

i've got blingees on my fisters (darraghmac), Thursday, 21 April 2011 10:10 (fifteen years ago)

Barely noticed Crouch on the pitch, perhaps Pav's awful first touch was just more conspicuous. Would happily sell them both tbh. Defoe is a stranger case, he could potentially be great again but the system we play now is manifestly unsuited to him.

Matt DC, Thursday, 21 April 2011 10:14 (fifteen years ago)

defoe is not good enough to change the midfield for, but the summer could well see changes in the midfield re bids etc

Up to defoe whether he'll settle for squad role, but this season he's not deserved any better. And though the team isn't playing to suit him, he's still been plain poor in his own terms quite besides that.

Four strikers out, two strikers in. Te orwellian solution.
