So yeah, you can see why I'm so incredibly successful at luring people into bed with me.

Chris P (Chris P), Thursday, 17 April 2003 15:23 (twenty-three years ago)

Enh. Lately I've stopped trying. And unless a drunk girl falls into my lap within the next six weeks, I don't see any reason to start.

mark p (Mark P), Thursday, 17 April 2003 15:25 (twenty-three years ago)

I created a profile a couple of months ago, and have had no response. I've found on dating sites generally that the men do most of the approaching still, but I do get some women contacting me first on other ones. I haven't written to anyone on this site, because I would have to pay, and there is enough going on on free sites for me.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Thursday, 17 April 2003 17:58 (twenty-three years ago)

Now that I've paid, I've got like 24 "credits" left, which makes me think I should go on a wild dating spree!

Chris P (Chris P), Thursday, 17 April 2003 18:06 (twenty-three years ago)

damn straight, Chris! I'm sure as hell into the idea of getting my $25 worth.

hstencil, Thursday, 17 April 2003 18:14 (twenty-three years ago)

I was waiting for someone to supply the punchline, but I guess I'll do it mysef:

damn straight, Chris! I'm sure as hell into the idea of getting my $25 worth.

because it's cheaper than a hooker!

hstencil, Thursday, 17 April 2003 18:30 (twenty-three years ago)

Oh I'm so cheap... I had my friend Jay, who had credits, email someone for me, like: "oh, uh, my friend uh wanted me to email you for him. his profile is tigermilking. here's his email"... i felt like i was on food stamps or something

phil-two (phil-two), Friday, 18 April 2003 03:44 (twenty-three years ago)

Haha no, Phil, it's totally OK! I want to give my credits to friends too! But all my friends are in COUPLES now god damn them fucking gjhklathiotpuy3829ghklsghxnjc....

Anyway I'll give you one of my credits if you find an airport postcard for me. ;-)

Chris P (Chris P), Friday, 18 April 2003 04:11 (twenty-three years ago)

Despite my reservations about spending actual money on this thing, I've already gotten a response. (She's not Jennifer Azzi though.) I think it was this keeper that reeled her in:

Why you should get to know me:
Despite the limpness of the rest of this profile, I am very funny. Women like big words, so I hear, and I've learned a lot. Like: wrap your solipsism around this my pulsating synecdoche.

Thank god for ILX, where I steal all my ideas from.

Leee (Leee), Tuesday, 22 April 2003 06:39 (twenty-three years ago)

What the hell? Collect call? Aaargh! Freeloading gold-diggers! I feel like Joe Millionaire!

Leee (Leee), Tuesday, 22 April 2003 06:46 (twenty-three years ago)

I mean, what's to keep me from putting some email addy in one of those fields to circumvent this whole credits biz?

Leee (Leee), Tuesday, 22 April 2003 06:51 (twenty-three years ago)

You'd probably have to be clever about it, like saying "write to me at (you know what I mean) whatever.com" - they usually forbid it, and their programmes look for it, but I bet the above would circumvent it. Maybe you'd have to say "whatever dot com" instead.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Tuesday, 22 April 2003 16:31 (twenty-three years ago)

I've seen profiles with e-mails in them, but they probably search for e-mail addys and could dump your profile I guess. Anyway do some search-proofing, I guess: "myemail at yah00" or something.

Chris P (Chris P), Tuesday, 22 April 2003 16:32 (twenty-three years ago)

Also, is Nerve one of those where your profile, or changes to it, don't go up very quickly? At some I think human beings actually look at the new content. You can test this by making a little change and seeing how quickly it appears. In minutes, it's automatic, several hours and it ain't.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Tuesday, 22 April 2003 16:32 (twenty-three years ago)

Leee, you sent me a collect call, you big hypocrite! Put that in your pulsating synecdoche and smoke it.

hstencil, Tuesday, 22 April 2003 16:53 (twenty-three years ago)

How do you know it's me, you big stud? Quite a few leee(e)(eeeeeeeee)'s around.

And on an entirely different note, someone spot me a couple credits. I'm totally good for it! You know where I post.

Leee (Leee), Wednesday, 23 April 2003 01:26 (twenty-three years ago)

Should I respond to somoene who signed their email as "Your Pal"?

That Girl (thatgirl), Tuesday, 29 April 2003 17:20 (twenty-three years ago)

NO.

luna (luna.c), Tuesday, 29 April 2003 17:25 (twenty-three years ago)

Was it Ma$e?

Jody Beth Rosen (Jody Beth Rosen), Tuesday, 29 April 2003 17:25 (twenty-three years ago)

but I am your pal, ddg!

hstencil, Tuesday, 29 April 2003 17:27 (twenty-three years ago)

No unfortunately it was the turntable guy. He's from Jersey. Could that be why?

That Girl (thatgirl), Tuesday, 29 April 2003 18:02 (twenty-three years ago)

one month passes...
Nerve sucks. The only girl I actually met through it stole my books. I don't know if I've changed or if the profiles have started to suck horribly. Everyone advertising themselves, it all seems like such a joke. Good riddance. I still have $22 in credits, can I transfer them to someone else or get my money back? Or am I just screwed?

amateurist (amateurist), Sunday, 1 June 2003 05:13 (twenty-three years ago)

She stole your books? That's rough.

s1utsky (slutsky), Sunday, 1 June 2003 15:37 (twenty-three years ago)

one month passes...
*Revive!*

OK, so I'm back on the Nerve tip after another heartbreak (this time in espanol!) during my adventures in serial monogamy. I've resolved to just date until at least March of next year (my 31st b-day).

So, anyone have more to report on how nerve is going for them. Are you bored with it? Moved on to Friendster? Met the love of your life? etc etc.

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Tuesday, 15 July 2003 19:53 (twenty-two years ago)

Met someone. Time will tell about the "love of life" part but it's been going fairly well for the past few months.

Chris P (Chris P), Tuesday, 15 July 2003 19:59 (twenty-two years ago)

Did you meet because of photos or because of the profile, and if so which part?

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Tuesday, 15 July 2003 20:09 (twenty-two years ago)

Friendster is better cos you can date Cookie Monster that way, but it's your life.

(Seriously, I just don't like things like that, says the person who is sitting online laughing her ass off at total strangers talking about Ed Wood)

Ally (mlescaut), Tuesday, 15 July 2003 20:10 (twenty-two years ago)

Profile. Though if there hadn't been pictures up, who knows.

Chris P (Chris P), Tuesday, 15 July 2003 20:52 (twenty-two years ago)

it was great for me at first because i met a lot of people and pretty much everybody was pleasant. after a while it got less great because it's hard (for me) to connect with somebody in a setting that's almost inevitably like a job interview, sort of. it's time consuming.

when i first signed up i was a writing fool and really tried to find people who expressed themselves well in e-mails and seemed interesting. that was limiting, mostly because a lot of people can't be bothered to write more than two sentences. so i started to focus more on pictures and decide whether "i could make it work" or not. that got me out more, but didn't really work too well. now i spend less time on it and i'm more selective.

(i'm "kelly23" and i need better pics.)

dan (dan), Tuesday, 15 July 2003 21:13 (twenty-two years ago)

i have 22 points that i can't get back. i wish i could give them to someone else who is bolder than i.

amateurist (amateurist), Tuesday, 15 July 2003 23:18 (twenty-two years ago)

ooooh, are they transferable?

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Wednesday, 16 July 2003 00:04 (twenty-two years ago)

no, i asked.

amateurist (amateurist), Wednesday, 16 July 2003 03:18 (twenty-two years ago)

What do you get points for? Not murdering your date?

Mary (Mary), Wednesday, 16 July 2003 04:09 (twenty-two years ago)

so you can write to people or IG (Instantly Gratify) them.

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Wednesday, 16 July 2003 04:12 (twenty-two years ago)

I need some instant gratification, dammit. I SAID NOW!

luna (luna.c), Wednesday, 16 July 2003 04:12 (twenty-two years ago)

I'm going to 'unhide' all my friendster bookmarks! yay assertive!

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Wednesday, 16 July 2003 05:43 (twenty-two years ago)

Wait, why can't you send e-mails for your friends and include their e-mail address and profile name in it? Like, "Hi! I have a bunch of credits (already found someone, yay!) but my friend walks_with_dogs thinks you're interesting and would like to talk to you about tacos. His e-mail is [email protected] and drop him a quick e-mail and he will write back." etc. etc.

Chris P (Chris P), Wednesday, 16 July 2003 06:27 (twenty-two years ago)

His e-mail is [email protected]

I really want this email now. I don't know why, I just do.

luna (luna.c), Wednesday, 16 July 2003 06:28 (twenty-two years ago)

What do you mean, you don't know why?

Chris P (Chris P), Wednesday, 16 July 2003 06:30 (twenty-two years ago)

Ok, I know why.

luna (luna.c), Wednesday, 16 July 2003 06:31 (twenty-two years ago)

My penis would totally surprise people.

luna (luna.c), Wednesday, 16 July 2003 06:31 (twenty-two years ago)

Coulor me surprised

oops (Oops), Wednesday, 16 July 2003 06:32 (twenty-two years ago)

See? It's working already!

luna (luna.c), Wednesday, 16 July 2003 06:33 (twenty-two years ago)

Luna, grab that addy before Oops does!

luna (luna.c), Wednesday, 16 July 2003 06:37 (twenty-two years ago)

Now remember, you have to use it, or they'll take it away from you in a few months.

Chris P (Chris P), Wednesday, 16 July 2003 06:38 (twenty-two years ago)

she's using 'it' already!

oops (Oops), Wednesday, 16 July 2003 06:40 (twenty-two years ago)
