The new episode was awesome. Top 10.

Patrick South (Patrick South), Monday, 3 October 2005 12:42 (twenty years ago)

The whole toilet theme was hilarious. "We don't like being called 'normal'. We prefer to be called 'able-bodied'."

when something smacks of something (dave225.3), Monday, 3 October 2005 12:46 (twenty years ago)

haven't managed to download the new episode, yet

I came across some fake files trying to download episode #1 last week but getting #2 was alot easier. I guess posting links to things like that wouldn't be allowed....

Stan Fields (Stan Fields), Monday, 3 October 2005 13:02 (twenty years ago)

Wow, that was great. ("We talk.")

d4niel coh3n (dayan), Monday, 3 October 2005 14:41 (twenty years ago)

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Monday, 3 October 2005 16:51 (twenty years ago)

RJG (RJG), Monday, 3 October 2005 17:15 (twenty years ago)

cozen (Cozen), Monday, 3 October 2005 17:49 (twenty years ago)

Wow, this show is relentlessly duddish this season. It's not awful, but it blows my mind how overrated this show is. There's just no new ideas, they just keep beating that dead horse. Eiiii.

Matthew C Perpetua (inca), Monday, 3 October 2005 17:52 (twenty years ago)

yeah, its VERY overrated. OTM. i still watch it tho.

JD from CDepot, Monday, 3 October 2005 18:22 (twenty years ago)

Blossom was in Fat Actress which like like CYE-lite.

100% Nice (nordicskilla), Monday, 3 October 2005 19:11 (twenty years ago)

On a Conan O'Brien skit about commemorative stamps of the future, Conan introduced the Mayim Bialik stamp of 2050. Andy immediately chimed in, "Conan, you of course mean 'President Bialik'". I laughed at this for about an hour.

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Monday, 3 October 2005 19:29 (twenty years ago)

yes it was blossom

faith popcorn (Jody Beth Rosen), Monday, 3 October 2005 23:35 (twenty years ago)

It especially depressing that HBO runs Extras immediately after Curb Your Enthusiasm, which is even less funny, and is recycling a lot of the same sort of jokes with less energy and imagination. I think Gervais/Merchant and Larry David are talented, funny guys, but they've really hit a wall. It's time for a new direction, fellas. It's really disheartening to see the recent episodes of the NBC Office beat Gervais at his own game.

Matthew C Perpetua (inca), Tuesday, 4 October 2005 02:42 (twenty years ago)

I had no idea the NBC Office was still on the air!

rogermexico (rogermexico), Tuesday, 4 October 2005 04:59 (twenty years ago)

fffffffuuuuuckin ppppppprick

bingo (Chris V), Tuesday, 4 October 2005 08:43 (twenty years ago)

i loved the first four cye seasons, but i've barely cracked a smile during the last two eps. shame.

bmbx, Tuesday, 4 October 2005 15:59 (twenty years ago)

woah a poor episode

cozen (Cozen), Tuesday, 4 October 2005 19:45 (twenty years ago)

it's wasn't great, but the line "This is a project that requires a return to home base" was classic

kyle (akmonday), Tuesday, 4 October 2005 22:11 (twenty years ago)

There were two bits in that last episode that he had already done in Seinfeld - Larry telling the groom that a lesbian will always beat a man in pleasing a woman because "they're familiar with the equipment" was from a Seinfeld where Elaine wanted to get a gay man to "switch teams." And the not being able to poo happened to Kramer on the episode where Jerry is dated the Romanian circus gymnast (somewhat different setup but it felt similar). Both of the ones this season just seem a little flat/predictable compared to previous seasons.

nickn (nickn), Tuesday, 4 October 2005 23:31 (twenty years ago)

it almost felt like a parody of CYE

cozen (Cozen), Wednesday, 5 October 2005 05:22 (twenty years ago)

"and i said, larry would you like to make a toast"
"and someone said, Larry went home to take a shit."

bingo (Chris V), Wednesday, 5 October 2005 09:02 (twenty years ago)

some uncharacteristically illiberal comments from larry in the latest ep.

cozen (Cozen), Wednesday, 12 October 2005 09:12 (twenty years ago)

"now if jesus was a jane, well...!"

cozen (Cozen), Wednesday, 12 October 2005 09:32 (twenty years ago)

haitch (haitch), Monday, 17 October 2005 10:06 (twenty years ago)

I saw a couple of seasons cheap on DVD. Is it worth getting or would I not like it?

dog latin (dog latin), Monday, 17 October 2005 12:34 (twenty years ago)

I liked last night's episode!

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Monday, 17 October 2005 16:39 (twenty years ago)

i don't think i really like this show.

s1ocki (slutsky), Monday, 17 October 2005 16:42 (twenty years ago)

the more set-up and sitcommy it is the weaker it gets, nu?

s1ocki (slutsky), Monday, 17 October 2005 16:42 (twenty years ago)

agree that CYE has been off its game this season; totally disagree with the slight on Extras upthread.

PeopleFunnyBoy (PeopleFunnyBoy), Monday, 17 October 2005 22:19 (twenty years ago)

the thing i used to love about this show was that LD used to commit faux pas (what's the plural of faux pas?) by breaking unspoken (and usually ridiculous) social codes through no real fault of his own -- something I felt I could relate to. The more he started actively creating his dilemmas through blatant insensitivity, the less I could relate.

PeopleFunnyBoy (PeopleFunnyBoy), Monday, 17 October 2005 22:41 (twenty years ago)

Has episode 5 been shown yet? I'm having trouble finding a torrent for it.

I do like the new series but I'm also rewatching the early series and David has definitely lost something. The ending of episode 4, with the old Japanese man hurtling towards him, was far too slapstick cheese.

Affectian (Affectian), Tuesday, 25 October 2005 15:59 (twenty years ago)

Episode 5.4 was strange, probably the most out-there episode they've ever done. The show thrives on finding humour in ultimately inconsequential misunderstandings, but insulting a person and driving them to attempt suicide is a little more than a simple misunderstanding.

I can tolerate one episode based on the happenings at his dad's retirement home. I do NOT want to see those people become recurring characters.

MindInRewind (Barry Bruner), Tuesday, 25 October 2005 16:15 (twenty years ago)

come back spencer chow!

howell huser (chaki), Tuesday, 25 October 2005 16:16 (twenty years ago)

Larry David inna hyper-self-aware, self-destructive stylee

this is OTM, unfortunately. there's a world of difference between misunderstandings based on a typo (beloved cunt) or accidentally tripping up Shaq and the current humour based on active rudeness. it's much less funny now (i'm talking about season 4 here).

jed_ (jed), Tuesday, 25 October 2005 17:31 (twenty years ago)

i've just started watching this on more4 (UK digital thing) ... as i said on, er, the more4 thread, i was kinda surprised that this supposedly awesome piece of observational/improvised genius passed me by without raising more than a couple of chuckles. but it's series 4 (i think) they're showing, which - reading this - explains a lot.

i need to get hold of some of the earlier stuff: i mean, i really like the two episodes i've seen, but i couldn't understand why people were going mental about it. the idea, however, of the situations being less about LD being a bit of an arrogant, blasé chump (which is the impression i have of the character based on what i've seen) and more about him getting into situations through no real fault of his own appeals greatly.

grimly fiendish (grimlord), Tuesday, 25 October 2005 17:38 (twenty years ago)

Grimly, yeah you really need to get hold of the 1st and 2nd series, they're fantastic. I disliked the idea behind series 4 (much too plot-heavy) and series 5 is, as said above, too slapstick, too cornball. If you like, I can post you a dvd with the first two series (and pilot) on it? (about to mail you now too)

So, does anyone know if episode 5.5 was screened on Sunday?

Affectian (Affectian), Tuesday, 25 October 2005 21:14 (twenty years ago)

season 4 is stone cold great and you are all crazy fuckers

c7n (Cozen), Tuesday, 25 October 2005 21:17 (twenty years ago)

bring back spender chow damn right

c7n (Cozen), Tuesday, 25 October 2005 21:17 (twenty years ago)

Cozen, have you found a torrent of ep 5.5?

Affectian (Affectian), Tuesday, 25 October 2005 21:22 (twenty years ago)

sexydancer off the money by a long way I think... thought it's a convenient if-inaccurate precis of what CYE could be like if you only perceived it rather than watched it

and anyway the show is all about larry's hands

x-post

not even looked A... still not managed to get my 5.4 torrent to download... need to pick up the latest prison break ep. and 5.4 & 5.5... I've been having problems with CYE torrents

c7n (Cozen), Tuesday, 25 October 2005 21:25 (twenty years ago)

They didn't air a new episode this week. #5 airs this coming Sunday.
