stet, Friday, 8 April 2011 14:59 (fifteen years ago)

except among 50+ people who still taken with notion of posting pix and saying lol

stet, Friday, 8 April 2011 14:59 (fifteen years ago)

among people i know, there's actually been a lot of going back to facebook as twitter starts to get too...full (though nowhere near an abandonment of twitter)

lex pretend, Friday, 8 April 2011 15:01 (fifteen years ago)

facebook use def way down in my social world, mostly use it like email now. I don't think my close friends use twitter at all.

iatee, Friday, 8 April 2011 15:02 (fifteen years ago)

id like people to escape facebook but getting a bunch of people of varying it skillz to sign up for half a dozen websites that replicate what they already have going on facebook is kinda difficult

Romford Spring (DG), Friday, 8 April 2011 16:51 (fifteen years ago)

Twitter is good for the real time where is everyone whats happening right now type stuff - esp when you are out and different groups of people are at different things

even if i had the it skills for this (and maybe I do) I can't figure out what the benefit would be of visiting 6 different websites to replicate what one particular one does

the facebook killer is gonna have to do everything facebook does + something it can't easily add

iatee, Friday, 8 April 2011 17:31 (fifteen years ago)

wtf would that be, I dunno, that's why I'm not rich

iatee, Friday, 8 April 2011 17:33 (fifteen years ago)

i can see my FB dwindling to p. much invites to events and keeping in touch with family members and other people who never really got email. No need for a killer, just different services will do different parts well. There wasn't a single AOL killer that brought it down, and FB is closest to Aol.

stet, Friday, 8 April 2011 17:57 (fifteen years ago)

Ugh. My mom joined facebook and friended me.

banjee trillness (The Reverend), Tuesday, 12 April 2011 17:20 (fifteen years ago)

i pretty much told my mother "so not gonna happen" when she tried.

two of my muslim friends have halal facebook pages for their families (and they had to make up a bunch of fake "friends" to make them seem plausible too) and hidden real ones

lex pretend, Tuesday, 12 April 2011 17:29 (fifteen years ago)

I set up my mom's facebook account on the very condition that she not ever try to friend me and to relay that message to the extended family as well. I love em, but a few days a year socializing with them is plenty for me.

That's why they call me (Johnny Fever), Tuesday, 12 April 2011 17:33 (fifteen years ago)

my grandmother friended my mom and she got mad cause she didn't want to be fb friends with her mom. I haven't had the heart to reject my grandmother but I'm pretty sure she doesn't know how to use her account.

iatee, Tuesday, 12 April 2011 17:35 (fifteen years ago)

I decided to:

a) accept
b) not give a fuck

banjee trillness (The Reverend), Tuesday, 12 April 2011 17:43 (fifteen years ago)

you can max out privacy settings to the extent that you're basically not friends

iatee, Tuesday, 12 April 2011 17:44 (fifteen years ago)

I have a page under my real name that's never been used and a page for the handle that I used a lot before I was a Green Leafy Dragon that's been used a little, but not a lot.

Christine Green Leafy Dragon Indigo, Tuesday, 12 April 2011 17:44 (fifteen years ago)

I already have all sorts of extended fam on my fb, but most of them is just cuzzins, and mostly cool ones at that.

mh, Tuesday, 12 April 2011 17:49 (fifteen years ago)

How do I shot?

banjee trillness (The Reverend), Tuesday, 12 April 2011 17:50 (fifteen years ago)

Upper right corner: Account -> Edit Friends -> hover over the person -> Edit Lists -> "Limited Profile"

You can also create lists with special permissions.

i'm still amazed that people have not yet figured this out.

You can also create lists with special permissions.

I use one for the list of people I trust enough to see the photo folder with my photographs in it.

I mentioned this upthread but I have some facebook socks that I use to make sure my real fb page isn't 'leaking'

i think drake distracts (dayo), Tuesday, 12 April 2011 23:57 (fifteen years ago)

the real answer is, don't put anything up on facebook that you would feel embarrassed about, even if you think you're only sharing it to your closest friends

i think drake distracts (dayo), Tuesday, 12 April 2011 23:57 (fifteen years ago)

^ p much the reason i killed my facebook acct and never went back

You Say Various Things (Autumn Almanac), Wednesday, 13 April 2011 00:00 (fifteen years ago)

I use all kinds of filters for my posts/pics on FB. Basically there's a large subset of ppl I'm "friends" with who would assume I never post anything because I've set all posts by default to be visible to "friends only, excluding "locked down" group".

Anyone who posts to FB with their posts/wall set to "visible to everyone on FB" is mad.

Concubine Tree (Trayce), Wednesday, 13 April 2011 00:05 (fifteen years ago)

I have a work profile, a family profile and a hobby (wakeboarding) profile. I don't have one for my friends though...

There's a "view my page like user x would" thing in facebook, too.

mh, Wednesday, 13 April 2011 00:15 (fifteen years ago)

yeah but that was the source of a pretty big privacy leak a few months ago, I DON'T TRUST FACEBOOK

i think drake distracts (dayo), Wednesday, 13 April 2011 00:16 (fifteen years ago)

Golden rule: no current work colleagues get to be on ANY blog/social media I am on; dont post/tag any incriminating or embarrasing photos, say nothing about your workplace or deeply personal life.

So basically, I just talk shit, post youtubes and ramble cryptic shite.

Reminds me of a dude who worked with a friend who was at the bar with us, then kept taking calls and walking outside
"Did you ever think that things were going a certain way, then you found out something and it completely changed how you looked at things?"

The guy was a creepy swinger! I think he is divorced and lost his job and works in a bike shop now. Plus, you're out of the swinger scene if you're single.

Be specific, people. Otherwise I'll assume you're that dude.

otm re: cryptic shit

lex pretend, Wednesday, 20 April 2011 09:09 (fifteen years ago)

i got this today. i un-friended her.

Heyy babes.
As y'all probs know I have some cranky cranky guts. I've been hard at work for years trying to figure out every aspect of their quirkiness and have managed to figure them out really well (yay!).
Overall, it's pretty complicated because a lot of what I can and can't handle is based on how my guts are doing at that time. The two main factors affecting this are where I am in the days guts-wise (what I've eaten so far, how long its been since I've eaten, etc.), and my stress level at the time. Hence, I'm more able to eat certain foods when I'm generally eating well and staying chill (or if I'm on vacation!). Smoking weed all day def helps as well. Taking my mornings slow and snacking all day are also a huge help.
In general there are lots of vegetables that I can't eat at all, and many others that are difficult. In general I need to eat a large amount of meat and grains; if I eat a meal with lots of vegetables they need to be accompanied by an even larger amount of grains and protein.

That said, here are some lists!

FOODS I CAN NEVER EAT (it's not an allergy, so a miniscule amount isn't gonna do anything)
-Refined Sugar/Corn Syrup
-Soy (lots of places I can't eat out cuz they cook with soy oil!)
-Coffee, Beer, some other types of alcohol
-Bean Sprouts
-Cabbage, Broccoli, Bok Choy, Brussel Sprouts, Cauliflower & other similar Brassicas
-Bananas
-Garlic (if cooked very thoroughly, I can handle an itsy bit)

FOODS I CAN EAT IN SMALL AMOUNTS
-Onions (if cooked thoroughly; green onions are easier)
-Wheat/Gluten
-Dairy
-Pork
-Spicy things (anything heavily spiced, not just chiles)
-Most crunchy vegetables. This is hard and I generally avoid most veggies except the ones on the love list below. However, if they're cooked until soft, I can eat these types of veggies in small amounts. Things like snap peas, carrots, radishes, asparagus, etc.

FOODS I CAN'T EAT EVERYDAY (or if my guts are esp. cranky)
-Corn
-Beans/Lentils

FOODS MY BODY LOVES
-Starchy Root Vegetables (sweet & reg potatoes, sunchokes, taro, beets, yams)
-Leafy Greens (stems removed)
-Beef and Chicken
-Squashes (all kinds!)
-Rice, Quinoa and Oats
-Eggs
-Nuts (esp. cashews for some reason)

THINGS I EAT TO CALM MY GUTS
-Plain Rice or Quinoa (usually cooked w/ turmeric, an anti-inflammatory)
-Barbara's Shredded Oats
-Marshmallow & Licorice Root Tea
-Dark Chocolate (how convenient!)

SO MUCH STUFF!
There's obviously a lot of things that aren't on any of these lists; unless they could possibly fall into a category with something else, they're probably just fine for me to eat, just not especially fabulous for my guts or anything (like fruit).
I'll update this list if/when I think of anything else, so it will be up here as an evolving reference

i mean.

what.

it is his "enigmatic signifier" (the table is the table), Monday, 2 May 2011 05:56 (fifteen years ago)

good lord. "tmi" barely covers it, really.

-FOODS THAT I CAN MASTURBATE WITH

-FOODS THAT LOOK LIKE FOODS I CANT EAT

-FOODS THAT NEED TO BE REGURGITATED INTO MY MOUTH

I wish I could unfriend her too, just for the satisfaction of it. Jeez, Table!

VegemiteGrrl, Monday, 2 May 2011 06:02 (fifteen years ago)

Why was she telling everyone that? Does she expect everyone to note it all down and make her bespoke meals every time she visits?

Concubine Tree (Trayce), Monday, 2 May 2011 06:07 (fifteen years ago)

smoking weed all day def helps as well.
