tbh I would watch a relationship comedy starring Tina Fey and Matt Damon
― fat fat fat fat Usher (DJP), Wednesday, 6 April 2011 19:52 (fifteen years ago)
I suggested (to no one in particular, but I think my dog was in the room when I said it out loud) that Baldwin/Donaghy should go to the Office: fish-out-of-water, down-on-his-luck big-city CEO in a small town, hilarity ensuing, etc. And Carrell could take over for Donaghy! Small-town middle-manager in over his head, etc. etc.

My Season 4 DVD just arrived so it's helping me through these two weeks of no new episodes. I'm not surprised they're gonna wrap it up, I'm amazed the show has remained so high quality for this long.BTW I didn't notice it at the time but in Season 4, Alec Baldwin does this weird pouty Zoolander lip thing at the end of scenes like ALL THE TIME! And now I've noticed it I can't not-see it.

oh yeah, that's called "his face"

This show needs to end. Also, Baldwin's comments reek of contractual negotiations – threaten the network with impending doom, the network stumps up more money. He's helping his mates.
― breaker moran (Schlafsack), Thursday, 7 April 2011 01:15 (fifteen years ago)
That's nonsense.
― reggaeton for the painfully alone (polyphonic), Thursday, 7 April 2011 01:18 (fifteen years ago)
i thought you'd want it to carry on now that tracy morgan is away? xp
― caek, Thursday, 7 April 2011 01:23 (fifteen years ago)
Baldwin's had one foot out the door for the show's entire run, talking about leaving when the daughter voicemail happened and at other points -- i think he enjoys 30 Rock and knows he's got a good thing but probably justifiably doesn't want to hang on forever like a lot of TV stars. and i can see why Fey would want to move onto other projects, 6 seasons is a good run, not too short and not too long.
― ℯℳℴ ❤\(◕~◕✿ (some dude), Thursday, 7 April 2011 01:27 (fifteen years ago)
no, Baldwin has talked about how he's absolutely definitely leaving three times before. he really means it every time, but obviously has enough fun that he gets talked back - this time might take, though. (it's not enough of a success to rort the network out of more money, anyway.)
― Ita Buttrock (sic), Thursday, 7 April 2011 01:29 (fifteen years ago)
xpost yep
Baldwin is clearly leaving, but for him to just appear out of nowhere and say 'omz the head creative has a future in hollywood!!' smacks of negotiation tactics. This stuff happens all the time.
― breaker moran (Schlafsack), Thursday, 7 April 2011 01:46 (fifteen years ago)
yes, totally
― J0rdan S., Thursday, 7 April 2011 01:48 (fifteen years ago)
this is constantly happening
tbh i hope he is right about Fey itching to write/direct movies. clearly she's going to be starring in movies either way and it seems like when she has the creative reins you get Mean Girls and when she doesn't you get Baby Mama/Date Night.
― ℯℳℴ ❤\(◕~◕✿ (some dude), Thursday, 7 April 2011 01:53 (fifteen years ago)
Aw, I liked Baby Mama.
― Johnny Fever, Thursday, 7 April 2011 02:28 (fifteen years ago)
Don't slander Baby Mama like that. I loled at least three times as much at that as I did the awful Date Night.
― 'what are you, the Hymen Protection League of America?' (jon /via/ chi 2.0), Thursday, 7 April 2011 02:29 (fifteen years ago)
Baby Mama was aight, but it is clearly not on Mean Girls/30 Rock level
― ℯℳℴ ❤\(◕~◕✿ (some dude), Thursday, 7 April 2011 02:34 (fifteen years ago)
Mean Girls is still one of my favorite things she's done
― VegemiteGrrl, Thursday, 7 April 2011 02:46 (fifteen years ago)
Date Night was like Tina Fey's Scenes from a Mall.
― Darin, Thursday, 7 April 2011 02:47 (fifteen years ago)
so tina is apparently 5 mo. pregnant. which i guess might be about right timing-wise if you're trying to schedule your pregnancy to interfere with your tv show job as little as possible.
― circles, Thursday, 7 April 2011 04:22 (fifteen years ago)
Baby Mama was awful and mirthless. I liked Date Night as an OK throwback to lost-in-scary-old-New-York 80s action-comedies.
― Pop is superior to all other genres (DL), Thursday, 7 April 2011 11:28 (fifteen years ago)
I didn't appreciate many of Baby Mama's charms until I saw it the second (and third) time.
― Johnny Fever, Thursday, 7 April 2011 11:36 (fifteen years ago)
I just tried buying this woman's new ebook. Can't. Apparently I am of an inferior race.
― You Say Various Things (Autumn Almanac), Thursday, 7 April 2011 11:43 (fifteen years ago)
Race or sex?
― Johnny Fever, Thursday, 7 April 2011 11:59 (fifteen years ago)
I'm guessing race. Australian :)
― VegemiteGrrl, Thursday, 7 April 2011 13:52 (fifteen years ago)
(ie impossible to get books etc at same time as US, etc)
Just downloaded the book and read the first 30 pages or so last night. It's a pretty fun, addictive read.
― Darin, Thursday, 7 April 2011 15:39 (fifteen years ago)
I was thinking it should be a good read, she's a pretty snappy writer and she has had an interesting life. The story of how she got that scar is O_O
― VegemiteGrrl, Thursday, 7 April 2011 19:43 (fifteen years ago)
Never heard that story!
― 'what are you, the Hymen Protection League of America?' (jon /via/ chi 2.0), Thursday, 7 April 2011 19:47 (fifteen years ago)
I'm surprised she wrote about it; I don't think she's ever talked about it in public.
― Funky Mustard (People It's Bad) (Tarfumes The Escape Goat), Thursday, 7 April 2011 20:02 (fifteen years ago)
well I don't know if she talks about it in the book, but I read an interview a few years back where she talked about it.
I guess she was playing out in her front yard when she was 5, and this dude just came by and randomly slashed her face with a knife, and ran away. She thought he had drawn on her face, she didn't even know it had happened at first.
She doesn't talk about it hardly at all though, so yeah she may not even bring it up in the book
― VegemiteGrrl, Thursday, 7 April 2011 20:08 (fifteen years ago)
she goes into about that much detail in the book, talks more about how people treated her because of it.
― mizzell, Thursday, 7 April 2011 20:10 (fifteen years ago)
In a way it's probably good she has kept a lid on it...I mean, it would be so easy to have THAT be your story from the time you're a kid.
― VegemiteGrrl, Thursday, 7 April 2011 20:11 (fifteen years ago)
Yeah, she does talk about it in the book. She doesn't really go into detail about the actual event, but provides funny theory involving how the scar transformed her personality by making adults give her extra attention/pity/inflated sense of self.
xp
― Darin, Thursday, 7 April 2011 20:15 (fifteen years ago)
I always thought the scar was kind of hot. I have had a major girl crush on her for like, ever
― VegemiteGrrl, Thursday, 7 April 2011 20:17 (fifteen years ago)
Baldwin:
Gosh.I want to take the opportunity to state that although my days on network TV may be numbered, I hope 30 Rock goes on forever. Or at least as long as everyone involved desires.Next year hopefully won't be the last. Kenneth can run the network. Jenna will get her own talk show. Tracy will become Mayor of New York. Then resign to go raise exotic reptiles. And Lemon will go do.... just about anything she sets her mind to.Here's to five more seasons.

thought there would be an episode for me on hulu just now but no the show took yet another break. stupid vagaries of network television programming. Sometimes I wish I were watching television at the end of time and extensive poll aggregation had produced a list of things that I should watch in order to perfectly fill my projected lifespan with top-quality entertainment.
Oof I think I need to go to bed.

yeah it's pretty horrible the way they only have a great new episode of this awesome hilarious show on thursday night about 50% of the time instead of 100% of the time i mean what the hell
― borkslovethewu (some dude), Monday, 11 April 2011 04:38 (fifteen years ago)
I KNOW, RIGHT?

I would actually love it if TV shows updated sporadically in the fashion of infrequently-used LJs/blogger blogs
"hi guys, forgot I had this thing! Things have been going well; here's another episode of 30 Rock than I made!
xoxo, Tina"

The present, truth be told imo

I've barely started this book and already it's brilliant. In a rant about the perception of blondes:
If you put a blonde wig on a hot water heater some dude would try to fuck it.

Hey, some dudes on ILX would do be thrilled to be called out by Tina Fey in her comic memoir Bossypants, out now.

Also, Tina on Fresh Air today, with her thoughts on the "TGS Hates Women" brouhaha:
"It's just such a tangled-up issue, the way women present themselves — whether or not they choose to put their thumbs in their panties on the cover of Maxim and judge each other back and forth on it. It's a complicated issue, and we didn't go much further on saying anything other than to say, 'Yeah, it's a complicated issue and we're all kind of figuring it out as we go.'"In the episode [of 30 Rock called "TGS Hates Women"], we have a fake website called Joanofsnark.com that the women at Jezebel.com immediately recognized that it was their website basically and it was ... I don't have the answer. But I find it interesting that Olivia [Munn, a correspondent on The Daily Show] gets people who go after her on some of these sites because she's beautiful, and that's part of it. I think if she were kind of an aggressive, heavier girl with a Le Tigre mustache posing in her underpants, people would be like, 'That's amazing. Good for you.' But because she's very beautiful, people are like, 'You're using that.' It's a mess. We can't figure it out."

honored to be shouted out by t-fey but honestly i'm not into blondes much at all, compared to brunettes anyway
