I keep hearing things about prosecco from Colette, but I've never had it.

KitCat, Wednesday, 19 December 2007 21:09 (eighteen years ago)

(as another sparkling wine similar to champagne)

KitCat, Wednesday, 19 December 2007 21:17 (eighteen years ago)

i still think zardetto is a great buy for the money-- it's about $12 at binny's, and the bubbles are nicer than other proseccos...

colette, Wednesday, 19 December 2007 21:19 (eighteen years ago)

Go with the bubbles!

Sparkling shiraz is kind of a good time, though I honestly don't remember what it tastes like (besides favorable at 3 AM at a party one time).

Office veterans,

How important are coverletters for enclosures? I am referring to a letter that simply says (on letterhead), "Enclosed is ________ document, please enjoy responsibly. Love, J."

There are times when they are necessary (when the enclosure alone might be confusing and the letter helps remind them who it's from and why, etc) but then other times it seems ridiculous (when you can be informal or it's really obvious what you're enclosing).

So?

Jesse, Wednesday, 19 December 2007 21:37 (eighteen years ago)

What are you talking about?

dan m, Wednesday, 19 December 2007 21:43 (eighteen years ago)

Enclose a coverletter. Better yet, enclose an office letterhead memo. Then you're basically just filling the page out with the To and From fields, Names and Addresses. Then you can put in a short sentence below or just throw the enclosure name in the RE: field.

KitCat, Wednesday, 19 December 2007 21:43 (eighteen years ago)

OH I see. You should put a README file in your .tar.gz archive.

dan m, Wednesday, 19 December 2007 21:43 (eighteen years ago)

I believe they are called Transmittals.

KitCat, Wednesday, 19 December 2007 21:44 (eighteen years ago)

I thought about whipping up a memo, but it seemed really form-lettery, which is EXACTLY WHAT IT IS, I guess.

Today for example, I'm mailing our co-counsel a copy of some medical records and letters between doctor and employer. He knows what it is b/c he called and asked for it. So it seems needless and overly formal to enclose a letter, but it seems sort of abrupt and discourteous not to.

Jesse, Wednesday, 19 December 2007 21:48 (eighteen years ago)

Sarah, send me a memo that you use, plz.

Jesse, Wednesday, 19 December 2007 21:48 (eighteen years ago)

discourteous not to.

otm. if he requested it and is expecting it a short informal letter saying here's X as requested should suffice.

chicago kevin, Wednesday, 19 December 2007 21:49 (eighteen years ago)

i'm holding a toddler....

Jesse, Wednesday, 19 December 2007 22:02 (eighteen years ago)

h-5!

dan m, Wednesday, 19 December 2007 22:07 (eighteen years ago)

Ok, the toddler is dead now.

Jesse, Wednesday, 19 December 2007 22:09 (eighteen years ago)

So yeh, now that I'm done babysitting--

The assoc. told me that when sending out obvious documents (an opposing attorney sends us a Complaint and we send the required Answer) he does not enclose a letter.

What I find amusing is enclosure letter build-up: we get a document that must be forwarded to a client, and it is accompanied by a enclosure cover letter. Then I write a encl cover letter on top of that one.

Enclosed please find a letter requesting that we find enclosed documents that you should please find enclosed.

Jesse, Wednesday, 19 December 2007 22:13 (eighteen years ago)

ha ha

KitCat, Wednesday, 19 December 2007 22:14 (eighteen years ago)

Please, dear GOD, find this document enclosed!!!!

Jesse, Wednesday, 19 December 2007 22:22 (eighteen years ago)

So?

OH. MY. GOD.

Did we not have like a 45 minute conversation about some time in the last two weeks?????

Jenny, Thursday, 20 December 2007 13:11 (eighteen years ago)

Seriously, do you not remember? I even vaguely recall that you posted about it before.

Jenny, Thursday, 20 December 2007 13:14 (eighteen years ago)

i would just stick a post-it on the document and write 'here's that shit you wanted'

KitCat, Thursday, 20 December 2007 14:07 (eighteen years ago)

I have been working in offices for 12 years, but the only time I have done anything remotely similar was when I was in charge of faxes and had to attach a cover letter to the fax, which was usually just a form that I filled out.

jaymc, Thursday, 20 December 2007 14:08 (eighteen years ago)

Bbut Jesse and I are specifically ADMIN peeps.

Hey guess what? Since my hair is darker, I've been wearing more noticeable lipstick. Guess what else? I forgot that stuff gets on mugs, glasses, etc.

KitCat, Thursday, 20 December 2007 14:19 (eighteen years ago)

sarah, you need to go to the 'how i met your mother' thread and scroll down to the bottom and watch the youtube clip that was recently posted

Nick, You're in trouble for saying JLD is hottt on the How I met yr mother thread!

KitCat, Thursday, 20 December 2007 14:37 (eighteen years ago)

that was another ilx poster called n/a

n/a, Thursday, 20 December 2007 14:46 (eighteen years ago)

At least I like JLD. If I die, you can go for it.

I just had a freakin' amazing truffle.

KitCat, Thursday, 20 December 2007 14:49 (eighteen years ago)

Jenny, yes we did, but this question 1. was a little different, 2. was to a broader audience, and 3. I have been thinking about this since our conversation.

For our fax coversheets we type up and print out a sheet unique to each fax, use it once, then throw it away. It seems sort of decadent.

Jesse, Thursday, 20 December 2007 14:57 (eighteen years ago)

i could really go for a delicious breakfast sandwich right now. there's a cafe next door that sells them but i would probably get in trouble if i ran out for one in the middle of the news routine, even if it only took a few minutes

n/a, Thursday, 20 December 2007 14:58 (eighteen years ago)

i just made one for myself! it was DERICIOUS

gbx, Thursday, 20 December 2007 14:58 (eighteen years ago)

What's the news routine?

Jesse, Thursday, 20 December 2007 14:59 (eighteen years ago)

the busy part of our work day where we're doing most of our news work (writing, proofing, publishing, etc.). It's from like 6:30 to 11, after that things are pretty mellow

n/a, Thursday, 20 December 2007 15:02 (eighteen years ago)

Cafe McDonalds?

Eazy, Thursday, 20 December 2007 15:23 (eighteen years ago)

Hey, I think I'm the only person in my office not wearing all black to the Christmas party.

KitCat, Thursday, 20 December 2007 15:24 (eighteen years ago)

KitCat, Thursday, 20 December 2007 15:26 (eighteen years ago)

hey anyone making it to dannys on saturday

deej, Thursday, 20 December 2007 15:26 (eighteen years ago)

it's a weird little cafe, it's just in the basement of another office building. they have coffee drinks and some stale-looking muffins and some other basic stuff, then at lunch they have a guy who makes rotisserie and jerk chicken that looks pretty good if you're into that kind of stuff. everytime i go over there they've changed stuff around and changed their menu. i pretty much just go there for coffee or to steal a plastic spoon when we run out here
