more money to spend? V much remains to be seen.

Ps spurs are a 'big club' too.

The thought of wiping rafa's slate clean after the latter could only balls up jose's inter side must appeal.

Spurs have much the better ?and prob younger? side?

Carragher can coach the players at defending, passing, goalscoring, etc.

the pinefox, Monday, 4 April 2011 15:06 (fifteen years ago)

My last post probably sounds like I'm not grateful for what Kenny's done, which isn't the case at all. Results have improved and the football pre-Carroll has been decent. It's the memory lane attitude among some fans that bugs me, but I guess you get that at every club, and it's probably impossible to shake off. Carragher won't get the job so there's no point me getting worked up about it. Looking forward to seeing how it all pans out. Makes a change from talking about leveraged buyouts!

Watching MOTD, my (American) dad remarked on the caption given to Dalglish: "Caretaker Manager". This title doesn't exist in American sports. I suppose its meaning is clear enough, but why is it necessary to mention the "Caretaker" angle? Don't pretty much all managers live on borrowed time? And if he does a terrific job, wouldn't they want him to stay?

40% chill and 100% negative (Tracer Hand), Monday, 4 April 2011 15:12 (fifteen years ago)

Only hired on a short term contract (till the end of the season iirc)? Most managers get about a 3 year contract, unless its Pardew.

Nult AGL (a hoy hoy), Monday, 4 April 2011 15:16 (fifteen years ago)

the gig's the gig.

I think they'd have offered him the job fulltime a couple of weeks ago, now he's very much 'caretaker manager' again.

the salmon of procrastination (darraghmac), Monday, 4 April 2011 15:17 (fifteen years ago)

holding out for the england job

Nult AGL (a hoy hoy), Monday, 4 April 2011 15:18 (fifteen years ago)

it's arry's and becks's to lose

the salmon of procrastination (darraghmac), Monday, 4 April 2011 15:25 (fifteen years ago)

american equivalent to 'caretaker' is 'interim' most of the time ime

Frightening, but full of facts that are difficult to argue with. (dan m), Monday, 4 April 2011 15:32 (fifteen years ago)

caretaker manager sounds like a player manager except instead of playing you lock the gate after every night

Jlloyd, I'm ready to be heartbroken (ken c), Tuesday, 5 April 2011 01:37 (fifteen years ago)

PFA Player of the Year shortlist:

Charlie Adam, Nemanja Vidic, Carlos Tevez, Samir Nasri, Gareth Bale and Scott Parker.

Number None, Tuesday, 5 April 2011 10:55 (fifteen years ago)

Young Player:

Nani, Bale, Nasri, Jack Wilshere, Joe Hart, Seamus Coleman

Number None, Tuesday, 5 April 2011 10:57 (fifteen years ago)

modric and vdv ahead of bale, unless it's for calendar year?

Good too see parker/adam on it

the salmon of procrastination (darraghmac), Tuesday, 5 April 2011 11:00 (fifteen years ago)

nani on yp but not the other seems o_O

Nult AGL (a hoy hoy), Tuesday, 5 April 2011 11:04 (fifteen years ago)

Bale will probably win them both

Number None, Tuesday, 5 April 2011 11:09 (fifteen years ago)

Nult AGL (a hoy hoy), Tuesday, 5 April 2011 11:09 (fifteen years ago)

VDV's been a bit pony of late though. Modric terrific.

Charlie Adam - for sheer impact and importance over a season, maybe
Nemanja Vidic - strong case to be made, would sum up this Premiership season in some ways, won't win
Carlos Tevez - winner, I think
Samir Nasri - maybe but lol Arsenal
Gareth Bale - Roy of the Rovers choice obv
Scott Parker - boring choice

Matt DC, Tuesday, 5 April 2011 11:12 (fifteen years ago)

Can somehow see Scott Parker's brief moment of being a fashionable footballer ending on a bench at Eastlands.

Matt DC, Tuesday, 5 April 2011 11:14 (fifteen years ago)

vidic should no way be in there ahead of nani imo

Packie Bonner (Local Garda), Tuesday, 5 April 2011 11:14 (fifteen years ago)

Should be Demba Ba tbrr

Nult AGL (a hoy hoy), Tuesday, 5 April 2011 11:15 (fifteen years ago)

but what about wayne rooney

The Geirogeirgegege (nakhchivan), Tuesday, 5 April 2011 11:18 (fifteen years ago)

matt, re parker:

He's been there done that with charlton/chelsea, surely?

the salmon of procrastination (darraghmac), Tuesday, 5 April 2011 11:21 (fifteen years ago)

rooney making a late burst to be named player of the milennium imo, the dude is just the greatest phenomenon i have ever seen grace a pitch.

the salmon of procrastination (darraghmac), Tuesday, 5 April 2011 11:22 (fifteen years ago)

there's little doubt he has become a united legend over the course of this turbulent season

The Geirogeirgegege (nakhchivan), Tuesday, 5 April 2011 11:23 (fifteen years ago)

not player of the year, but lest we forget his goal against man city is worth more to humanity than a cure for cancer and aids made from chocolate cake

Packie Bonner (Local Garda), Tuesday, 5 April 2011 11:24 (fifteen years ago)

lilp and berbatov could either of them have walked this had ferguson not developed an aversion to beauty in 2003

the salmon of procrastination (darraghmac), Tuesday, 5 April 2011 11:24 (fifteen years ago)

ya berbatov was favourite in midseason, only nasri in contention

The Geirogeirgegege (nakhchivan), Tuesday, 5 April 2011 11:26 (fifteen years ago)

I'd take Rooney over AIDS made from chocolate cake, but it's a close call.

Berba not being in here is a fucking travesty etc.

Matt DC, Tuesday, 5 April 2011 11:27 (fifteen years ago)

united legend rooney will have looked at the balkan interloper and thought 'i'm not having that'

The Geirogeirgegege (nakhchivan), Tuesday, 5 April 2011 11:28 (fifteen years ago)

has united's defence really been that good this year? they've surely leaked more goals than arsenal or chelsea...

Packie Bonner (Local Garda), Tuesday, 5 April 2011 11:28 (fifteen years ago)

sir alex ferguson will be disgusted.

Packie Bonner (Local Garda), Tuesday, 5 April 2011 11:29 (fifteen years ago)

srsly tho ferguson and rooney both deserve to choak on their own filth

The Geirogeirgegege (nakhchivan), Tuesday, 5 April 2011 11:31 (fifteen years ago)

it's an important point that often goes overlooked in the rush to anoint the united legends

The Geirogeirgegege (nakhchivan), Tuesday, 5 April 2011 11:32 (fifteen years ago)

The Geirogeirgegege (nakhchivan), Tuesday, 5 April 2011 11:35 (fifteen years ago)

United's defence has been way dodgy this year but without Vidic it wouldn't be a defence capable of winning the title, even for allowing for chokiness from everyone else.

Matt DC, Tuesday, 5 April 2011 11:36 (fifteen years ago)

matt, re parker:

He's been there done that with charlton/chelsea, surely?

Very true. Parker's probably made more bad career choices than any other English player I can think of.

Matt DC, Tuesday, 5 April 2011 11:38 (fifteen years ago)

*cough* SWP *cough*

Nult AGL (a hoy hoy), Tuesday, 5 April 2011 11:40 (fifteen years ago)

Forgot he existed. But yeah SWP has made two big clangers but a career that goes Charlton -> Chelsea -> Newcastle -> West Ham is a textbook example of how not to advance your career.

Matt DC, Tuesday, 5 April 2011 11:44 (fifteen years ago)

*cough* Michael Owen *cough*

Ismael Klata, Tuesday, 5 April 2011 11:44 (fifteen years ago)

Bit harsh on Owen, you've got to bear his injury record in mind, although ridiculous wage demands probably didn't help over the last few years.

Matt DC, Tuesday, 5 April 2011 11:46 (fifteen years ago)

Hernandez should have made the Young player shortlist

Number None, Tuesday, 5 April 2011 11:57 (fifteen years ago)

he's no seamus coleman

The Geirogeirgegege (nakhchivan), Tuesday, 5 April 2011 12:12 (fifteen years ago)

Can't disagree with you there

Number None, Tuesday, 5 April 2011 12:13 (fifteen years ago)

I think Hernandez is too old for the young player shortlist?

Matt DC, Tuesday, 5 April 2011 12:33 (fifteen years ago)

city to chelsea back to city is truly heartbreaking

Packie Bonner (Local Garda), Tuesday, 5 April 2011 12:34 (fifteen years ago)

Hernandez is 22, Nani is 24 and Hart and Nasri are 23

Number None, Tuesday, 5 April 2011 12:35 (fifteen years ago)

Rooney's superiority to Bale and Nasri proved with science

Wayne Rooney - 10 goals, 11 Assists
Gareth Bale - 7 Goals, 1 Assist
Samir Nasri - 9 Goals, 1 Assist

Number None, Tuesday, 5 April 2011 12:53 (fifteen years ago)

Berbatov - 20 goals, 9 assists

Matt DC, Tuesday, 5 April 2011 13:05 (fifteen years ago)

So the shortlist should have been all Utd players basically. Including Scholes and Giggs naturally

Number None, Tuesday, 5 April 2011 13:12 (fifteen years ago)

bale, and i've said this before, has 'assisted' crouch, defoe and pavlyuchenko to the tune of about 30 missed sitters. Where's the stat for that?
