New Apple Lust Objects for 2010 and onward

I've had mine for five days now & it's fab---this os is really neat & the extra real estate enables lots of new things, or at least does so without the eye strain.

Flipbook is really great. It makes my fb & twitter feeds actually worth bothering with.

It's funny that everyone calls it Flipbook. I kind of prefer Zite now, though they're facing cease and desist letters from publishers.

Got so sick of being unable to find anything without spotlight that I've just spent 90 mins putting all my iphone and ipad apps into folders sorted alphabetically. In my defence I am sick today and lack the brain power to do anything else.

The iPhone and iPad have Spotlight, you just have to swipe to the screen to the left of the home screen

Sorry, that's what I meant, I've been using spotlight because I could never find anything.

I use spotlight to find most things that aren't in the multi-task dock. Just easier for me.

Basically I do routine clear-outs and can't bring myself to delete most of them.

I admire your fortitude. Too many apps makes my iPod touch a blackhole of focus every time I use it. Too much coffee and not enough sleep contribute, but an organized launch screen can be zen like.

My launch screen has always been in order but it's the whole "aaagh shit where did I put that shopping discounts app" thing that's been doing my head in.

I fully endorse too many apps. I havelike 5 folders of games that I keep. Most I keep so I dont lose my saved progress. If I removed them and they release an update with more levels then I have to start over. Completism fail.

I do that too. Too many Tiny Birds nests too lose and Essay gets so better with each update, I hang on to it till I get the most use out of it. I'm sayin, have the main screen be for apps you actually have the device for, a second screen for occasionally-used apps, then screens all the way down for erything else. This is the best method I've found so far.

ugh. I've bought three writing apps this week, don't think I'm up for a fourth. Essay does look bloody good though.

And you bring up a good point. With so many apps without trials, I waste a lot of money buying apps that look kinda good but might suck usability-wise. So many shit weather apps I have paid money for.

Yeah. If it's cheaper than a pint you can say "ah well, at least it was cheaper than a pint" but there's one $13 purchase from 2009 that I regret to this day. It stays on my phone because I'm too cranky to delete it.

btw the writing apps I bought all have different applications so it's not too bad.

If you backup the phone to iTunes you can delete the games. Updates will appear in iTunes and then when you reinstall it will put yr data back on the phone too.

But won't that only work if you then Restore from backup and so lose any subsequent game data from apps you're still using?

that ihas not been the case for me. For example if I beat angry birds, uncheck the app, sync, then check and sync it back, all the levels are shown as not complete. Maybe because I sync two phones to the same iTunes?

If it's mid-cycle, then I guess the Air still has a core 2 duo for powersaving reasons then? Is 2gb ram really enough?

I am getting a MBP replaced on the insurance, and I'm wondering if they'll let me switch to an air.

Got a 2gb 11" here and it's really pretty fast. never have felt need for 4gb or faster proc, ssd makes up for a lot. I only use it for work stuff though, not 000s of RAW files etc.

I always end up running a monster IDE or vmware or something, 2gb seems really limiting even for just web browsing, to me.

i'd be amazed if the air was anywhere near the middle of a cycle. they have a lot more products due an update before they revise that.

Good chance 10.7 will be built for an iOS way of computing (on an architecture level, not just interface). Perhaps it's worth waiting for that to appear. A5-alike chips in Airs would be interesting.

I'm assuming you mean hardware when you mean architecture? That's not really an iOS way of computing, that's just putting multiple platform support back in by supplementing x86 with ARM or whatever else. They took away PPC support, adding ARM wouldn't be that bad.

Nah I mean the architecture of the 10.7 OS could take advantage of iOS-type chips, given the UI is already going that way. The next lot of Airs could well use an A5-like chip to really help cut down size/expense/power consumption.

By being cut down or optimized, or what? I'm kind of confused what you're going at, but it might be because I'm a programmer and am thinking in different terms.

For what it's worth, 10.7 server edition is going to be on the same disc and be an install option, so it's not like they're removing much.

Trying to decide between a 13" pro and a 13" air. I don't think I have the chance to wait (depends on the insurance company). atm I'm thinking the air, because I'll never know the difference performance-wise, plus I can always upgrade the ram.

Also consider that the Air doesn't have a CD/DVD ROM slot (if you even care in 2011, although MS Office only comes on a disc iirc) and the 11" doesn't have an SD card slot.

Oh and the MBP is cheaper and has more stuff.

Basically if you're not sure get the Pro.

you can get office as a download now, and no, I don't care too much about cd/dvd.

It's a replacement for a £1300 pro (which I initially won in a competition), so I can get the 13" w/ extra ram.

so it comes down to light vs. heavier, core 2 duo vs. i7, flash vs. 500gb, and graphics.

Airs are amazing. The lovely Emma B has one and it really has gotten to the point now where, it's like, if you can throw your computer in your bag and not realize it's there, weight-wise, how much further does "lightness" matter in a computer?
