Everyone always mentions West Ham in 2003, which was something like 43. Don't know if that was the highest (since 38 games a season).

Late substitutions and Spearing on the right wing apart, Kenny's done a good job. It's going to be an interesting summer.

Just checked - they were highest (since 3 points for a win and 38 games) and it was 42.

that is way too fucking good to be true. so it can't be. wenger obv sees chesney and fabianski as the way forward, and if we can leave almunia in the woods and bring back mannone or bring in a dece third choice, then we'll be alright <<< is what i think wenger is thinking. wd personally hump his leg if he bought reina this summer.

So rule out Arsenal and that leaves Utd. And adopted Scouser Reina would never go to them so.

Wenger would love it, just love it etc etc
Wenger said: "There's a lot of things going on that I don't want to talk about. I've been here for 15 years and I know how things work so I want to be completely neutral like I have to be because I am not involved in any decision."I don't decide the schedule. You should ask people who make the schedule. If you look, when do we play? We play every game (at the weekend) from now until the end of the season on a Sunday."I don't want to speak about anything else that makes it look like we are looking for an excuse for our performance."We have not been good enough, that's the main information of the day and we have to look to be better in the next game."Despite all of the fixtures, I have no influence on the fixtures, nor on the decisions of the referees and not on anything else here."

the sunday thing always annoys me as a fan, or monday nights. it does put a bit more pressure on your team, esp if you're battling to stay in the top half.

To be fair, other than the Blackburn game all Man Utd's games either have a European match a few days afterwards or are on a Sunday too.

― in a wonderful balloon! (Nasty, Brutish & Short), Monday, 4 April 2011 12:13 (fifteen years ago)
The same names remain in the frame once the main blame game starts.
― death, taxes and (onimo), Monday, 4 April 2011 12:34 (fifteen years ago)
it only remains to designate blame for the shame over what the name game became. All the same it may be reclaimed from its current framework for the betterment of the game.

For all that Liverpool fans like to think we don't look back, the number of times I've heard the words 'Boot Room' and 'Liverpool Way' since Kenny's come back has done my head in to be honest. If Kenny's the right man for the job and he's a success then fine, but there is a part of me that thinks we've had our fun, now let's really start again with a fresh pair of eyes. I don't know how prevalent this attitude is, but I get the feeling that a lot of fans like the good old days vibe that Kenny's brought, that he should be grooming Carragher to take over in a few years, that we should keep everything in-house, and while I can see the sense in maintaining a sense of continuity, the unwillingness of some fans to just move on is, well, fuck it, just move on.
― territory of the magic wand (Chris), Monday, 4 April 2011 13:59 (fifteen years ago)
Putting Carragher in charge seems like the worst possible option this side of giving it to Tony Adams.

Liverpool - much more prestigious job, much more money to spend assuming Carroll hasn't/won't put Henry & co off, brand name to match Jose's own
― Ismael Klata, Monday, 4 April 2011 14:59 (fifteen years ago)
more money to spend? V much remains to be seen.
Ps spurs are a 'big club' too.
The thought of wiping rafa's slate clean after the latter could only balls up jose's inter side must appeal.
Spurs have much the better ?and prob younger? side?

Carragher can coach the players at defending, passing, goalscoring, etc.
― the pinefox, Monday, 4 April 2011 15:06 (fifteen years ago)
My last post probably sounds like I'm not grateful for what Kenny's done, which isn't the case at all. Results have improved and the football pre-Carroll has been decent. It's the memory lane attitude among some fans that bugs me, but I guess you get that at every club, and it's probably impossible to shake off. Carragher won't get the job so there's no point me getting worked up about it. Looking forward to seeing how it all pans out. Makes a change from talking about leveraged buyouts!

Watching MOTD, my (American) dad remarked on the caption given to Dalglish: "Caretaker Manager". This title doesn't exist in American sports. I suppose its meaning is clear enough, but why is it necessary to mention the "Caretaker" angle? Don't pretty much all managers live on borrowed time? And if he does a terrific job, wouldn't they want him to stay?
― 40% chill and 100% negative (Tracer Hand), Monday, 4 April 2011 15:12 (fifteen years ago)
Only hired on a short term contract (till the end of the season iirc)? Most managers get about a 3 year contract, unless its Pardew.
― Nult AGL (a hoy hoy), Monday, 4 April 2011 15:16 (fifteen years ago)

I think they'd have offered him the job fulltime a couple of weeks ago, now he's very much 'caretaker manager' again.
