Marijuana: Classic or Dud?

Now that naivete has gone, I look how I feel, anxieties have been unearthed by time and powders: Dud, I try not to touch it, and even when I've had a good week and say what the hey, it still FUCKS with me.

scott is right: it makes you hear things differently, or at least it makes you think you are hearing things differently. I still think it helped me notice details I hadn't noticed before in recordings and videos, and that it made it more probable that I would discover those details; but I'm not convinced I could not have picked them up without pot (more that it made me more likely to notice them). There was a brief period after I stopped smoking pot that various music would make me think, "Oh man, I wish I were listening to this stoned," but I almost never think that now, and definitely haven't stopped enjoying music. (I think that dancing for long stretches of time also makes you hear music differently, but maybe it's more subtle.)

Dud. I watched Mean Girls while stoned last night and enjoyed it so much that I revived the thread. It may not have been worth it.

At least one of the friends that were smoking with him says that he really didn't inhale--the pot was too harsh for him, and he kept coughing it out.

weed's alright i guess. it's fun for me once in a while, but i'd hate to be stoned all the time as i already live my life in an absent-minded daze.

and obviously being in the hot sun with a great big spliff and a few beers+some music is paradise.

This is surprising. It makes me much more comfortable socially. Not as comfortable as alcohol, but it's way better than being sober. When I'm sober and thrust into social situations (parties, mostly) I typically want to run away screaming. Pot makes it easier for me to veg out against a wall and examine the people around me; makes me feel less self-concious. (I understand it's the total opposite in many people, though.)

yeah, it's so unfortunate. if i can't handle marijuana, i can't really handle much else. i've been shut out of almost the entire wonderful world of drugs.

and it's not that i hate god as a result of smoking, it's that i start to feel like i'm dying and think, 'maybe if i had gone to church and behaved myself...' which is very strange and uncomfortable because it's not the same kind of dying feelings i've experienced from depression, where i never think of god at all.

first time I went it was mostly older folks which was cool because some of them have actually seen these bands back in the day and will talk about what it was like getting The Lamb the day it was released. but lately there's actually been a lot of younger folks (well, people my age or a bit younger). outside one of them was asking the DJ "oh was that Van Der Generator before?". was really cool to see. later in the night he'll start playing stuff like Hawkwind and people will actually come onto the dance floor, it's wild

after all this talk on here i decided to take a thc cleanse! meaning, no gummies for awhile. its sad but i am already seeing the benefits. getting up earlier. more focus. reading at night instead of just passing out after hours of streaming tv/movies.
i was totally using them as medicine. the gummies. since the pandemic. for nighttime jitters. but i feel okay now. for me. mostly okay. thc definitely dulls my interest in things. which i kinda wanted for awhile. i didn't want to think. but thinking can be underrated.

Everybody I know loves pot and a lot of my friends use it regularly, some every day. They say it makes them feel relaxed, happy, and sleepy, and even use it to help them sleep. I really want to feel like that!

But it totally wires me, and not in a good way. I think it's partly a physical reaction. I feel jittery and cold and am wide awake for ~hours~ afterwards. I completely lose my appetite and I can't have a coherent thought for more than a few seconds, and most importantly it transports me into a slightly paranoid mindset which is very unsettling

I've been trying to use it off and on for more than 40 years, telling myself I'll eventually get used to it, but I always have the same reaction.

40 years well. If there was a way to enjoy it I’m sure you would have found it by now.

I have the opposite problem: even very small amounts make me extremely sleepy and fatigued for a solid day after.

when I do too much I get that cold/jittery/scatterbrained feeling, the good news is once it passes I usually end up having a great time

I know some people who have a similar issue. from what I understand there are specific receptors for THC so it would make sense that they vary from person to person.

I stopped telling people that I do (insert Delta Whatever and/or actual weed if I can ever get it), because if I do, they think I do it all day every day instead of the three tokes every few weeks that I actually do it.

A couple months back I was walking around the lake in Oakland and this dude had giant jars of mushrooms for sale, but on the side of the table he had little bags of weed for $5 apiece.. I would say they were about half an eighth (which would have cost me $25 in the 90's, easily). So I bought one with 'Jelly Roll' written in sharpie on it

This weed is what I've been looking for... I don't get super fucking stoned, and more importantly I don't start doubting/recriminating myself ('Do I have an ugly laugh?').. I just get relaxed and often feel downright positive about my life's trajectory. It's kinda been a game-changer in that the positivity is still there the next morning. I sorta want to hunt down the mushroom vendor to see if he has anymore 'Jelly Roll', I'd buy another nickel bag

The whole indica vs sativa or whatever is mostly bullshit from what I gather.. but careful breeding can produce strains that aren't a complete paranoid nightmare (which I had two weeks ago when I took ONE PUFF off a friends vape pen and I could barely walk or make it home on my bicycle)

the first THC cart I got was awesome, lasted me like 3 months too even though I was honking on it every other day or so

I haven't found a good one since though...they make me cough like crazy now, I get lightheaded and weird but not in a good way. it's strange because I'm pretty sure the one I got was a fake cart

but yeah the strain can matter a lot. all the actual flower I've gotten has been good but some has been better than others

Strains for me are like

Sativa = alert for a bit then sleepy and fatigued
Indica = comatose

I am too old and fragile for experimentation; I found an edible type and dose that is very consistent and predictable, and therefore easy to calibrate.

It's notable that weed and weed-adjacent things have become easy to purchase and unproblematic to consume in many places; that ease has definitely changed the vibe, though.

In my youth the surreptitious / dangerous / risky edge to purchasing drugs made the resulting drug experiences feel urgent and transgressive in a way that I do not miss. That urgency and scarcity caused me to want to Do All The Things while high, which is the opposite of mellow. And every time there was a knock on the door we just _knew_ it was the cops, although it never was.

In 1990 I had to meet a sketchy guy named Brik in an alley and hand over a wad of 20s while glancing nervously in every direction; the first time I had weed delivered by a person wearing a uniform was... an adjustment.

Since, I have adjusted to the normalcy of inserting a sort of temporary chemical cushion between myself and the harsh edges of the clanging world. I don't want to rely on it but it is a good tool to have handy.

where's the 'Dark Side of Moon' tapestries? where the nag champa incense sticks, and Freak Brothers Comix? I've never set foot in one of them, the vibe is off

It's weird being in an illegal state but with vape stores all selling hemp-based carts and edibles, and seemingly half the people I know manage to keep supplies of one thing or another around. The whole country is awash in THC.

But if we have to have a dystopia, at least we can have a dystopia with weed.

I know not to take too much anymore, and 5-6 hours later I feel more relaxed, but by that time I should have already gone to sleep and am just exhausted from all of the jitteriness and the feeling that I have Alzheimer's, so it's not fun

I haven't had the experience of any strains or varieties (Sativa, Indica, etc) or local products being different from any others. They all have the same effect on me.

I think pot is much stronger than when I was a kid, and even then I didn't have a good experience with it

I read about some study that found a 5% increase in stroke risk for weekly smokers vs 42% increase for daily smokers. So thinking bout cutting back

ya it's kind of a bummer, I get it in the age of just medical since you wanna make it look more 'legit' but now it's like come on. you don't see liquor stores that look like that. obviously it rules that you can just buy it at a shop and basically be guaranteed good shit but I do kinda miss the old thrill of burying a paper bag in your trunk and snickering all the way home

the guy i buy off often has one called 'jelly cake', which i guess is uk equivalent, lol. i had some but found it a bit too mongy, felt spaced on it. i smoke maybe one joint a week and this friend of a friend delivers it in a car, it still has a mildly amusing sketchy feeling. i also don't know him even slightly so the small talk is funny. i got a re-up today and he was like 'let me know if there are any problems... though i can't imagine what problems there would be'

'wedding crasher' is the one i buy most of the time from him. it's quite fun in that it doesn't really make me sleepy, more like alert and interested in stuff.
