arbeloa seems cool, and he loves crouch
"During the World Cup we were on the PlayStation constantly," Arbeloa smiles. "It was always el Chori [Raúl Albiol] and me against Sergio Ramos and Jesús Navas. They were Spain, we were England and it got pretty intense. We always put Crouch up front – and he scored loads. We bought ourselves England shirts. You'd be there in the Spain hotel and there were two guys in white, "Gerrard" and "Crouch" on the back.
"Spurs might not be as famous as Chelsea or Manchester United but they will be very dangerous," he continues. "I wasn't pleased with the draw because it was easy but because I wanted to play in England. And when I saw Spurs, I said to el Chori: 'We're going to get Crouch shirts, so we can play in them – real ones, this time.' It'll be a bit big on me, but still ..."

it's always nice when you hear a player talking who's obviously in love with the game
Were they at Liverpool at the same time?
― Matt DC, Friday, 1 April 2011 15:44 (fifteen years ago)
Yes, but only for a season and a half. Crouch signed before 05/06 and left after 07/08, Arbeloa signed January 07 and left after 08/09. That match at Barca was actually Arbeloa's full debut.

Gavin Law, the group head of corporate affairs for Liverpool's shirt sponsor, Standard Chartered, has said the bank would like the club to sign Asian players, in order to exploit one of the bank's largest markets.
"We would love the club to have players of nationalities from the markets in which we operate," Mr Law said. "They are not going to get them from all 75 but if they could sign some – if they could get a Korean, Indian, Chinese player – look what Park [Ji-sung] has done for [Manchester] United in terms of coverage in Korea.

The most interesting stat I saw today is that if West Brom take any points tomorrow then Kenny will have been less successful than Roy at Liverpool (current stats 7w 4d 4l 15 goals vs 13w 9d 9l 31 goals - ok it's twice the value but near identical in ratio).
― I said Omorotic, not homo-erotic (aldo), Friday, 1 April 2011 18:14 (fifteen years ago)
yeah and if you add up all the numbers in 09/11/01 and correspond it to the alphabet it translates as HOW FUCKING ACCURATE IS THIS
― Packie Bonner (Local Garda), Friday, 1 April 2011 18:17 (fifteen years ago)
yeah, points are irrelevant tbf- it's all about whether he understands that liverpool are a big club la or not
― the salmon of procrastination (darraghmac), Friday, 1 April 2011 18:24 (fifteen years ago)
It's not even the same ratio though - it would be a shade under 16w 9d 9l, which is a significant difference especially in a tight league.
― Ismael Klata, Friday, 1 April 2011 18:25 (fifteen years ago)
anyone feeling brave wrt relegation predictions? can't bring myself to believe wolves will go down, regardless of yknow evidence
― the salmon of procrastination (darraghmac), Friday, 1 April 2011 18:27 (fifteen years ago)
Wigan will beat you tomorrow but are still going down with Blackpool and Birmingham (really though, it could be anyone)
― Ismael Klata, Friday, 1 April 2011 18:32 (fifteen years ago)
wigan double over spurs is so typical of each outfit
― the salmon of procrastination (darraghmac), Friday, 1 April 2011 18:42 (fifteen years ago)
for whatever it's worth, not much, it's not just that it's not the same ratio, the games hodgson lost were far worse, plus he had about what, 10 europa league games?
― Packie Bonner (Local Garda), Friday, 1 April 2011 22:43 (fifteen years ago)
oh yeah and surprise surprise, your stats are wrong anyway. hodgson had ten defeats.
― Packie Bonner (Local Garda), Friday, 1 April 2011 22:52 (fifteen years ago)

It's always a relief to see this thread coming back to life after the internationals.
I'd like to lose Blackburn because they deserve it, but their squad probably is too good to go down. Probably we do need to see more from Venky's because sacking Allardyce doesn't really cut it as the one thing they ever do in football, though there would be a certain zen in them going down and going bust before the summer.

some red nosed dude ejected from West Ham for throwing a bottle at the ref?

what's really depressing is the certainty that no matter how many points United drop between now and the end of the season - and let's be honest, they'll end up winning this shit 3-2 - Arsenal will drop more.
― Boobage Dirtbag (Noodle Vague), Saturday, 2 April 2011 12:23 (fifteen years ago)
west ham looking the better side tbf. or how to stop worrying and learn to love the grant.
― Nult AGL (a hoy hoy), Saturday, 2 April 2011 12:24 (fifteen years ago)
Cesc is back though! And Song! And Theo! Quite frankly I can't remember the last time we went into the last two months with so many... fit players!

O U CUNT U CUNT U CUNT
if the FA had any integrity they'd just relegate utd for accumulated points total on cunt ref decisions over the years
I'm obviously a bit behind you? Dunno what you are on about. Unless its general Vidic hate.
Nani makes this team
HOLY SHIT FUCK YOU REF.
― Nult AGL (a hoy hoy), Saturday, 2 April 2011 12:28 (fifteen years ago)
cunt ref, btw
vidic i like, buttbf cunt probably escapes 5 or 6 legit reds every season and there's only so much of that you can watch without hating a face
― the salmon of procrastination (darraghmac), Saturday, 2 April 2011 12:28 (fifteen years ago)
Birmingham relegation wd be sweet. Plausible too. No idea how finishing the season without Doyle is gonna pan out.
― Boobage Dirtbag (Noodle Vague), Saturday, 2 April 2011 12:29 (fifteen years ago)
Yeah seriously fuck Vidic and fuck refs.
― Nult AGL (a hoy hoy), Saturday, 2 April 2011 12:30 (fifteen years ago)
Seb deserves to start anyway but he's a totes different player to Doyler. On the other hand, we look better when we play it on the ground so fingers crossed.
― Boobage Dirtbag (Noodle Vague), Saturday, 2 April 2011 12:30 (fifteen years ago)
i forgot about doyle.
still, ye have the excellent shane long as backup right?
― the salmon of procrastination (darraghmac), Saturday, 2 April 2011 12:30 (fifteen years ago)
Stoke gotta be wondering why the fuck they couldn't get Ba through a medical - if he was here all season he'd be a POTS candidate.
― Nult AGL (a hoy hoy), Saturday, 2 April 2011 12:32 (fifteen years ago)
i know i'm gonna get it in the neck from NB&S on this again because sometimes utd players get sent off when they deserve it, but really how the fuck can you justify that yellow card?
sky not bothered obviously.

Ball was practically in the keeper's hands when the foul occurred so no goalscoring opportunity was denied?
― territory of the magic wand (Chris), Saturday, 2 April 2011 12:40 (fifteen years ago)
shh u, be more fun
― the salmon of procrastination (darraghmac), Saturday, 2 April 2011 12:41 (fifteen years ago)
and on replay i'm genuinely going to disagree with you anyway, vidic is fouling him before the ball has even bounced imo
― the salmon of procrastination (darraghmac), Saturday, 2 April 2011 12:42 (fifteen years ago)
and i mean, for any team in the lower half do we really think the ref will take a moment to even consider that? i'm saying not a chance.
