i really like redemption rye, but it IS quite lively. really wanna try this now!!

really should taste before i say anything but i am extremely skeptical of these bottles coming out with a 90+ percent rye mashbill

Can anyone help me find a whiskey that I had once? It was a really expensive whiskey, the guy who owned the bar was an old friend of my parents. I think it's called wedgewood, maybe wildwood? I've never really cared for whiskey but that was about the smoothest liquor I've ever tasted.

was it some kind of Woodford Reserve maybe? Just going by the name.

That could be it. I seem to remember it being a Canadian whiskey but I really have no idea. Woodford Reserve seems to be the one of the few that starts with a W

so i discovered a distillery about an hour from here that has 'bottling days' where you can participate in bottling! this weekend's full and i'm out of town for the next one, but i'm totally psyched at the idea that i could learn how to bottle whiskey!

also, my abc dude said that maybe they will get bulleit at the next 'sales quarter' which begins may 1. apparently they can only add new items when a new quarter starts.

I thought they add things monthly here, but maybe it's by quarters as well? That'd make sense.

IIRC everything has to be ordered/purchased through the state in Iowa.

On an odd note, Costco has Bulleit Bourbon for $20/750ml here, which is almost $10 cheaper than most grocery stores!

finally bought a bottle of that Bulleit Rye. tastes pretty nice, but it's kind of harsh. Good for the price.

I thought it was pretty smooth for a rye! Has an interesting mint finish.

Did I previously mention I got a bottle of Baker's for my birthday? I did, and it's great with a splash of water, and it has a weird cherry finish.

on a visit to the parental home for my mother's birthday she had the good sense to bring out a postprandial bottle of 1993 Scapa (2006 bottling); delicious and still seemingly very affordable (about £45 or so).

Bulleit Rye is a lot more harsh than the Tuthilltown Hudson Manhattan Rye, but at a quarter of the price I'll gladly drink it with water.

i also picked up a bottle of bulleit rye this weekend. it's fine, but at twice the cost of overholt and approx $10 more than rittenhouse, it's not gonna become my standard. nice flavor i suppose but maybe a bit weak?

it's at one store in my area and they've marked it up north of 40 bucks. so yeah not trying soon unless maybe i spot it at a bar.

My new drink is Green Chartreuse, Manhattan Rye Whiskey, Sweet Vermouth, and Simple Syrup with a orange peel. Not sure what to call it, but it taste like heaven. Any other ideas for rye cocktails?

sazerac doesn't have the vermouth, right? i can not make myself like things w/ simple syrup lately :(

It's similar to the sazerac which I have never heard of. I should invest in a bottle of Peychaud's Bitters.

I made some mint simple syrup for ready-made juleps a year or two back

got way wasted by the time my friends left, then a second wave of friends showed up. good times.

shit, i had a bunch of leftover mint a while back and forgot to make a syrup, then i went out of town and came back to yuck :(
