Standing in amongst seats is actually less safe than standing on a purpose-built terrace.
could you expand? is it because legs and arms can get caught between seats?
― harlan, Wednesday, 23 March 2011 21:46 (fifteen years ago)
There's standing in a number (all?) of MLS stadia too, either simply standing amongst seats/bleachers or in some cases on semi-German-style terracing.
― gtfopocalypse (dan m), Wednesday, 23 March 2011 21:47 (fifteen years ago)
actually in the Chicago supporter sections that aren't terraced ppl just stand on the benches
― gtfopocalypse (dan m), Wednesday, 23 March 2011 21:48 (fifteen years ago)
In a rather enthusiastic goal celebration you can actually trip over seats and go tumbling down several rows. (xxp)

this is from bremen's stadium, folding seats if you want them, if not: stand away

I really want to work out the answers to that quiz, but don't want this thread to just become endless quiz speculation, so I've started this thread:http://www.optasports.com/about/news/feature-the-opta-joe-sports-quiz.html

at White Hart Lane, if you go to a high seat, the steps are on such a steep slope that going up them always feels dangerous and dizzying to me!
― the pinefox, Thursday, 24 March 2011 14:31 (fifteen years ago)
the idea of a panicked crowd tumbling down those slopes is doubly scary.

I have suffering multiple bruisings and dead legs from stupid wee plastic seats being in front of me when trying to celebrate goals. I have also nearly broken my ankle twice from clambering over flip-up seats to try and negotiate a swift exit from Celtic Park after games.

Doyle and Taraabt together would be the alpha and omega of lower-half-of-Premiership attacking football. Tasty.
― Matt DC, Friday, 25 March 2011 14:59 (fifteen years ago)
Obviously we couldn't hold on to Doyle if we go down, but we won't be going down so soz guys

― kid 606: the nultness (nakhchivan), Friday, 25 March 2011 15:08 (fifteen years ago)
For excitement value, probably Blackpool.
― Matt DC, Friday, 25 March 2011 15:10 (fifteen years ago)
Scratch that, Newcastle have probably had more ridiculous results than anyone. Doesn't necessarily mean they play great football but they haven't been bad.
― Matt DC, Friday, 25 March 2011 15:12 (fifteen years ago)
I think Citeh in full flow are pretty thrilling but they do it what, once in every four games?
― a SB-in' artist that been in the game for a minute (Noodle Vague), Friday, 25 March 2011 15:17 (fifteen years ago)
ya i've seen them look pretty great when silva, tevez, even balotelli get their act together, but that's rare
― kid 606: the nultness (nakhchivan), Friday, 25 March 2011 15:21 (fifteen years ago)
West Brom can't defend but they've been gorgeous.
Wigan are apparently pleasing on the eye but I've hardly seen them this season.

Džeko's gonna be great too I think. It's a hell of a strike-force.

West Ham have looked rather tasty in recent weeks.

Basically all the Ws innit.
― territory of the magic wand (Chris), Friday, 25 March 2011 15:23 (fifteen years ago)
Hammill's gonna be thrilling I think. Guedioura too once he's fully fit, assuming that chucklehead lets him play.

Most of the relegation candidates play decent football actually, with the possible exception of Birmingham and Blackburn. And maybe Stoke if they still count as relegation candidates.
― Matt DC, Friday, 25 March 2011 18:26 (fifteen years ago)
they dont, probably cos they dont gaf for pretty football.

i remember when we were close to the title in the early 80s and fcked up, but the searing memory was going to villa park and being spanked 6-1 in the 77-78 season. there couldn't have been more than 200 supporters in our 'end' and i can still picture the crowded terraces of villa fans on either side pointing their fingers and laughing.
we went on to beat arsenal in the cup final a couple of weeks later and for this 11 year old that was some consolation.
― utterfilth (whatever), Friday, 25 March 2011 22:55 (fifteen years ago)
Were you at that (the cup final)?
― in a wonderful balloon! (Nasty, Brutish & Short), Friday, 25 March 2011 23:06 (fifteen years ago)
no. my dad wasn't into football. but a family friend was a diehard fan and when they came up for a weekend to birmingham he obviously saw the opportunity to watch the villa game.
i'd have loved to be at that cup final, because it will always be a one-off for my team. but at the time it was enough to read the newspapers and snip out all the stories.\
different times.

The mystery of who tossed a banana onto the field during Sunday's friendly meeting between Brazil and Scotland has been solved, with confirmation that the object was thrown by a German tourist with no racist intent.

NHS guidelines suggest that by two years old, toddlers can say around 100 words and start putting them into short sentences.
Ms Douglas questioned whether somebody with just 100 words at their disposal would be able to form sentences with full grammatical syntax structures.
"Perhaps they would just concentrate on nouns or verbs like 'football', 'kick' or 'harder'," she says.

Just started the reading the piece on Xavi in The Blizzard, and it's just struck me - wouldn't it be great if he, or any player for that matter, could wear shades or a headband with a tiny camera built-in so you could see the game from his perspective. That'd be well cool.
