That is the more likely scenario.
Seriously though, maybe a fall marathon this year, but more likely a Winter one in 2012. I should also run another half, since my PR was made by walking the last 8 miles of the only one I've run. Can't let that stand.
― Jeff, Wednesday, 23 March 2011 16:45 (fifteen years ago)
my marathon and 1/2 PRs i've set in training, i don't bother paying for road races anymore, really-- trails too tempting, more fun, cheaper races, better people, smaller crowds, good food at aid stations etc.
marathon training PR is actually around 4:37 i forget (in actual race 5:10)
half PR 1:58 in training (2:04 in race)
― ilxor you've listened to one odd future album once (ilxor), Wednesday, 23 March 2011 16:47 (fifteen years ago)
Half training PR - 1:59Half race PR - 3:10
Lolsob

13.2 mi in the rain. i'm dead tired.
― jeff, Wednesday, 23 March 2011 22:48 (fifteen years ago)
How fast?
― Jeff, Wednesday, 23 March 2011 22:51 (fifteen years ago)
133 min, so just over 10min/mile
― jeff, Wednesday, 23 March 2011 23:02 (fifteen years ago)
did 11.5 miles in the same time a month ago, so i'm pleased. gonna need to lose some weight though before i can pick up my speed.
― jeff, Wednesday, 23 March 2011 23:06 (fifteen years ago)
Good progression, lowercase.
― Jeff, Wednesday, 23 March 2011 23:07 (fifteen years ago)
thanks big j
any tips on dealing with foot blisters? this run turned some minor issues into bigger ones (all of the side of one foot) and i think that skin may have to come off. should i let it happen naturally or start the process myself? i just want to get back to running asap and not wait it out
― jeff, Thursday, 24 March 2011 00:04 (fifteen years ago)
this j-J-j-J shit is confusing
― ilxor you've listened to one odd future album once (ilxor), Thursday, 24 March 2011 00:57 (fifteen years ago)
oh btw pop & drain yr blisters, don't peel off the skin tho, let it come off naturally. if you drain it should kinda dry up overnight & not be painful to run on while you wait for it to die & fall off
― ilxor you've listened to one odd future album once (ilxor), Thursday, 24 March 2011 00:58 (fifteen years ago)
just use a needle, poke a hole in the corner iirc
What about duct tape? Don't you use it?
― Jeff, Thursday, 24 March 2011 01:04 (fifteen years ago)
I'd probably sterilize the needle.
― Jeff, Thursday, 24 March 2011 01:05 (fifteen years ago)
yeah there is no fluid in this one. i assume it's popping in the shoe. but the area of loose skin keeps growing and it starts causing pain after 5mi or so. i guess i will just ride it out.
― jeff, Thursday, 24 March 2011 02:24 (fifteen years ago)
16 miles today at 9:40 pace. Felt strong, but really feeling it in my legs right now. I wonder if I'll ever be able to nonchalantly run that far and then be able to walk around normally.
― Jeff, Saturday, 26 March 2011 17:48 (fifteen years ago)
I was able to drag my ass out of bed this morning and run the full loop in Central Park. Wow, I am not used to hills. I love flat, flat Chicago.
― Jeff, Tuesday, 29 March 2011 14:00 (fifteen years ago)
oh man i love the central park loop! A+ would run again
― ilxor you've listened to one odd future album once (ilxor), Tuesday, 29 March 2011 14:02 (fifteen years ago)
do you live in NY or Chicago..?
Chicago, I'm in NYC on Bizness.
― Jeff, Tuesday, 29 March 2011 14:07 (fifteen years ago)
ahh okay, was gonna say, i'll be there in a few wks probably!

Cool, see if you can beat my time. It took me right at an hour to go 6.2. Exhausting. Makes me think that I should run hills more often for the conditioning.
― Jeff, Tuesday, 29 March 2011 14:13 (fifteen years ago)
everyone should run more hills (i love 'em tho)

Hey ilxor, when you're doing trail runs around Austin, where do you go? I love Town Lake, but it's time to run somewhere else.
― the girl from spirea x (f. hazel), Tuesday, 29 March 2011 15:27 (fifteen years ago)
my three big running spots:
- Town Lake (i work within 1/4 mile of the trail; head down on weekends for 1-2 ten mile loops)- Walnut Creek Park (~5 min drive from my home; great 11 mile trail loop, moderately hilly, more so than Town Lake, but not as hilly as...)- Emma Long Park (this is a couple minutes west of 620 and 2222; hilliest trail in Austin that i've found, main loop is 6 miles, and honestly it's off limits to pedestrians [it's a motocross/mountain biking park] so when i head out there, it's at like 6am or earlier before anyone else hits the park, lest i be "discovered" - anyway, if i do that 6 mile loop 2-3 times, i am WHIPPED)
― hey ilxor, thanks for contributing, glad you stopped by (ilxor), Tuesday, 29 March 2011 15:35 (fifteen years ago)
Thanks! I'll give Walnut Creek park a spin this weekend. 11 miles is the perfect distance.
― the girl from spirea x (f. hazel), Tuesday, 29 March 2011 18:49 (fifteen years ago)
map here: http://www.austinridgeriders.com/documents/Walnut%20Creek%20Metro%20Park_Kiosk.pdf
for the 11 miler, stay on the yellow trail w/ blue dots. if you're going counter-clockwise overall (as shown by the arrows on the yellow/blue trail) there are signposts at most trail intersections with a blue square/diamond that point in the right direction to keep on that path. probably also good to print the map yr first time out there (i certainly did)
― hey ilxor, thanks for contributing, glad you stopped by (ilxor), Tuesday, 29 March 2011 19:04 (fifteen years ago)
13 miles sunday, 6 miles yesterday, sore today
― jeff, Tuesday, 29 March 2011 19:51 (fifteen years ago)
hahaha, wow, those trails are definitely more complex than town lake. maybe I'll walk around all day first and then try running them. looks like a great park, though.
― the girl from spirea x (f. hazel), Wednesday, 30 March 2011 02:01 (fifteen years ago)
i'd say i could give you a tour but that sounds kinda creepy ^__________^
― hey ilxor, thanks for contributing, glad you stopped by (ilxor), Wednesday, 30 March 2011 02:57 (fifteen years ago)
I'll take a running tour on the slim chance I ever set foot in Austin again.
― Jeff, Wednesday, 30 March 2011 03:14 (fifteen years ago)
whoa buddy do you have something against austin??
― hey ilxor, thanks for contributing, glad you stopped by (ilxor), Wednesday, 30 March 2011 03:24 (fifteen years ago)
Ha, not really. I've only been once, went to SXSW about 8 years ago but haven't had a reason to go back. I liked it, really. I wish I had been a runner them.
― Jeff, Wednesday, 30 March 2011 03:27 (fifteen years ago)

can't stand nocera :/
― jeff, Wednesday, 30 March 2011 09:18 (fifteen years ago)
i'm going to the barkley marathons this weekend, the race Engle wrote about for Runner's World this week:
http://www.runnersworld.com/cda/microsite/article/0,8029,s6-238-511--13905-1-1X2X3-4,00.html
"going to," mind you. i'll be watching, not running.
― mte, Wednesday, 30 March 2011 11:27 (fifteen years ago)
no way! soooo jealous :/
"running" and "race" are generous words, btw, in reference to a course that makes world-class runners average 25-35 minute miles
― hey ilxor, thanks for contributing, glad you stopped by (ilxor), Wednesday, 30 March 2011 14:04 (fifteen years ago)
why did i decide to go running in 83 deg heat
― jeff, Wednesday, 30 March 2011 21:48 (fifteen years ago)
I'd take that right now. In DC and the weather sucks.
― Jeff, Wednesday, 30 March 2011 21:55 (fifteen years ago)
so cold and damp :(
― tehresa, Wednesday, 30 March 2011 22:04 (fifteen years ago)
it was ok but i had to stop after 7 mi because i didn't have enough water and i hadn't put on any sunscreen. now i am tan and dehydrated
― jeff, Wednesday, 30 March 2011 22:12 (fifteen years ago)
I'm still going to get out and run tomorrow morning. Nothing fancy, just around all the monuments and things.
― Jeff, Wednesday, 30 March 2011 22:31 (fifteen years ago)
Assuming I don't drink too much tonight.
― Jeff, Wednesday, 30 March 2011 22:35 (fifteen years ago)
going for a run after one or two beers feels great, but after three it becomes unpleasant.
― the girl from spirea x (f. hazel), Wednesday, 30 March 2011 23:09 (fifteen years ago)
I did 5 miles immediately after three beers and some charcuterie a couple of weeks ago. Not my best run ever.
― Jeff, Wednesday, 30 March 2011 23:54 (fifteen years ago)
Wait, that's exactly what I've eaten tonight. Plus oysters. http://twitpic.com/4f479u
― Jeff, Wednesday, 30 March 2011 23:55 (fifteen years ago)
three beers and a run makes me feel like a washing machine, all those suds sloshing around in there.
― the girl from spirea x (f. hazel), Thursday, 31 March 2011 00:21 (fifteen years ago)
I thought you were talking about the night before, not immediately before! Running after drinking anything sounds muy sloshy to me.
